Guestbook comments from the owner

I'm a biased reviewer because we there for lots of family reunions. However, since we are waiting for reviews from new guests we wanted to provide you with info about the other side of this duplex listed on www.vrbo.com/123318- it will give you a wealth of info about us, the area and the overall view of the east end of the island. This is our way to tell you about Sanibel & Captiva Islands: voted best place to go in US and World & best beach in the US by Frommer's AND top destination by Conde Naste, biggies in the travel industry rating world. Be sure, once you read about the island and things to do, you won't want to miss the opportunity to visit alone, with your family or on a romantic get-away

A vacation to remember!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the sea grape cottage and it was like home away from home! It was a very nice place and had everything you could possibly need , all we needed was food and personal bath items ! Washer and dryer etc We had a lot if first there that we will never forget! Very private! Outdoor cooking, screened porch! Its a place I could live! Full of serenity! The owners or so awesome, sweet , kind and make you like family and that you can't find anywhere! I would recommend this with a 20 star rating if I could!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kindness. Honoring your daughter's birthday with a local fishing expedition was awesome. And the fact that the man of your family did most of the cooking gave my heart a little whisk of happiness --(knowing that men really can cook, even on vacation, and not only on a BBQ grille!) Your family of four were comfy-cozy and did everything together! Isn't that what vacations are all about? Mama and daughter at the beach in the early evening seemed like a special hour to get even closer and have some privacy during that almost teenager time. Seeking out dolphins and manatees was such fun for your family too. You found them immediately! We know you are coming back next year and can't wait to show you more to do. You were a joy! Thanks!

Beautiful Place

We- a family of 2 adults and a six year old girl - started our two month Florida break in Sanibel. Luckily we found Seagrape Cottage and Karyn and Richard who helped us making our 3 weeks the best part of our stay in Florida.

The house is nicely decorated and has everything you need to make this a very nice holiday home. Karyn and Richard put a lot of personality into this house to make their guests feel home.

Whenever we have a chance to visit Florida again, we would go back to Seagrape Cottage.

Owner's Response: The number of German families we had this year was higher than ever. What is it about Europeans and Sanibel!? It must be a very special holiday indeed. Your little one loved Sanibel: the beach, the dolphins and the experience of biking everywhere. We were thrilled to have such a happy-go-lucky family with us for a long period of time. I do hope to see you again & we are proud for your World Cup win! Thank you, my friends...Karyn

Perfect little cottage with "Everything" you need in it! It has been my experience that when people say the rental is equipped with everything, it is not. not by a long shot but this one really has everything you need and more, even a knife sharpener!!! Owners are super nice and very helpful with what ever you need. We will be back!

Owner's Response: You two were an inspiration! Fishing, boating, shelling, swimming, cooking your own fish on the grille, and enjoying the scenery. We love it when we get guests who appreciate nature as much you certainly do.We appreciate your stay with us and were able to see what Sanibel and Captiva have to offer. You were so neat and clean too. You kept the cottage looking like it did when you arrived! That was much appreciated because you know we pride ourselves on the type of guests we attract. Thank you so much and we do look forward to having you return. Next time, we want some of that snapper you caught!

Sweet Sanibel Cottage

We enjoyed our stay at Seagrape this summer-the owners couldn't be lovelier! It was very safe and quiet for our young children and close proximity to almost private beach. Very cozy and comfortable!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the great review. We are thrilled that your daughter had such an enjoyable trip to the beach every day and found lots of seashells. And you -- alone with a newborn and little girl -- I knew you would be safe because Sanibel is known for its safe, peaceful and relaxing days. Enjoy your new life but come back again!

Bird Photography on Sanibel

  • 5 of 5
I went to Sanibel Island for the weather and opportunities for bird photography. This property was only a short walk to the beach and on the first day in only a few minutes I was able to get some of the best shots of diving pelicans that I've been able to get anywhere in Florida.

This unit was perfect for my purposes. It was beautifully situated near the beach on a quiet end of the island and the neighborhood was peaceful with little traffic. The unit was clean, well-kept, comfortable, well-stocked, and there was plenty of room when a guest came to visit for a week. The owners were helpful and friendly and made me feel right at home.

On the next street over was an osprey nest and it was easy to get good pictures as the birds watched over the nest and flew in with fish in their talons.

In the late afternoon the soft, warm light was perfect for shooting and there were always several kinds of shore birds along the beach, as well as dolphins on many days. I loved the pictures I could get by following the beach toward the light house and then on around the point to the fishing pier. The wave action was different on the end of the island near the light house and that seemed to attract feeding shore birds and dolphins even more than other parts of the beach.

The main reason I went to Sanibel Island was for the opportunity to photograph wildlife in the J. D. Darling National Wildlife Preserve there. The birds there were different from the ones on the beach and well worth the visit. But as much as I enjoyed the different kinds of birds there I found I could get closer to the birds with better lighting just by walking out my front door to the beach.

If you enjoy walks on quiet trails among trees and small ponds with birds and occasional alligators, Bailey Tract is a pleasant change from the sandy beaches. Because the water there is from a river rather than the ocean it attracts yet a third kind of birds. There are benches beside some of the ponds so in the late afternoon it's easy to quietly enjoy the many different kinds of feeding birds.

This unit worked out beautifully and the conditions for bird photography far exceeded my expectations, so I'm hoping to be able to return often.

Owner's Response: Our guest is so right in what he says about Sanibel. The island is a preseve for wildlife and especially birds. Our beach was voted #1 of the top 10 best beaches in the world. We are pleased that you not only enjoyed what Sanibel has to offer, but that you felt our cottage was exactly as advertised. We look forward to seeing you again next March and hope we will have the opportunity to share some more of your amazing photos. Thanks!

Dolphin lovers gather here

  • 5 of 5
This is an exceptional property on an exceptional island. The on-line description and comments by guests are entirely accurate and we found the property to be exactly as advertised. The cottage is completely stocked and equipped and if there was anything more we needed the owners were always just a phone call away and ready to respond to all of our requests.

As foreigners heading to our first wintertime Florida vacation we were rather anxious about placing a deposit on this property some months before our arrival with owners we did not know. We needn’t have worried. All of the business arrangements were handled conscientiously, the lease agreement spelled out all of the details and our security deposit was returned promptly at the conclusion of our stay.

The vibe of Sanibel was captured for us when we noticed the road signs warning drivers to slow for turtles crossing and cars actually stopped and waited for the turtles to cross! The beach, which is at the end of a short lane just steps from the cottage, is covered with thousands of small shells. We saw dolphins, pelicans, ospreys and in the canals, manatees.

We found that the cottage did hearken back to Florida’s “olden days” On a large lot, trees provided shade for the cottage’s simple charm and cleanliness.

We rented bikes and explored the paths that start a few feet from the cottage’s door and run throughout the island. The nearby fishing pier and lighthouse provided a good destination for a short bike trip to see people fishing.

The kitchen has all of the equipment that we needed for our meals although the lure of the island’s restaurants proved hard to resist. At the end of the lane was both one of the island’s prime breakfast spots and next door to that was the go-to destination for ice cream.

The living/dining area is well appointed with comfortable and well-maintained furniture. The beds are also comfortable. The air conditioning in each of the rooms was good.

While we were there in the winter it was clear to us that this property would also prove a comfortable destination for visits in other seasons.

If you seek a quiet and completely unique property as the base for your holiday on Sanibel we would recommend Seagrape Cottage most highly.

Owner's Response: This is one of our best reviews ever! Thanks so much. Seagrape is special and we know you recognize that. Having the almost private beach at the end of the path makes it simple to stroll or jog in the early morning to catch sight of the dolphins at play: so close to the shore you could practically swim alongside! We are especially happy that you'll be back next winter. Our guests' return is the best compliment we can have. Thank you!

Location

From the Owner

Sanibel Island is a unique setting and has something for everyone. We bought this property 19 years ago & have been renting it ever since. We had hopes that Sanibel & Captiva Islands would not become commercialized. We were so right. It has zoning laws that prohibit any sort of theme that takes away from the olden-days feeling of island living & that 'old Florida' is still alive.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Ft Myers, FL at 30 Miles Car: not necessary

Sanibel is home to artists, writers, creative people, intellectuals, and down-home islanders. The tourists are international and from Canada and the US. We are a friendly group and you will find help and politeness everywhere you go. There's lots to do on our islands of Sanibel and Captiva. It can be relaxing with lots to do for kids and adults. It's romantic and family-friendly.
