4 Bedroom, 3 Bath, Newly Renovated Kitchen And Baths, Porch.

Our Classic New England Gambrel roofed house perches on its landscaped lot in the South End of Rockport with the most incredible view of the ocean and the twin lights of Thatcher Island. It was one of the original houses built in around 1907. There are many protected places to sit outside as well as a wrap around covered porch overlooking the water. The sound and the smell of the sea envelop you.

The first floor has an open living/ dining room with huge windows onto the view. there is a separate study/TV room with a convertible couch and pocket doors. The large kitchen with its eat around island has the same amazing view and has been completely renovated in a classical style. There is one full bath with a shower on the first floor.

The second floor has four comfortable bedrooms, each with an ocean view, and two full baths, one with a clawfoot tub and one with a large shower. Both are newly renovated.

There is an outdoor gas grille and outdoor table and chairs.

Wonderful owners, incredible view, gorgeous home, quiet neighborhood

  • 5 of 5
We rented the Arbory House to celebrate two "big" birthdays and a significant wedding anniversary with our family. The home is immaculate and has recently been renovated with the floors refinished, interior painting, new bathrooms as well as a new kitchen. The owners have fully equipped the home, providing all that is required for a comfortable stay. The inside of the home and the view of the twin lights on Thacher's Island are even more beautiful than the pictures! We communicated several times with Kate via email and by phone before and during our rental period. She is both friendly and responsive, going out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed.

During the month, we visited to the shops of Rockport and Bearskin Neck a few times, walked the neighborhood and found quaint footpaths leading to the rocky ocean's edge, went nearby Cape Hedge and Pebble Beach, rented kayaks on Bearskin Neck and paddled around Straightsmouth Island, toured Cape Pond Ice in Gloucester... There are so many things to do in Rockport and Gloucester, but be forewarned~ it is difficult to leave the porch over-looking Thacher's Island!

A few restaurants we really enjoyed - Latitude 43, Cape Ann Brewing Company and Zeke's Place (breakfast, cash only) in Gloucester, Blue Lobster and Helmut's Strudel (home-made strudel and cookies) in Rockport and The Market Restaurant in Annisquam.

It was so hard to leave; we have already booked dates for next summer!

Location

From the Owner

This house is a dream house to us. We had owned an adorable beach cottage just down the road from Arbory House for ten years after having fallen in love with Rockport and the south end of Rockport in particular. We love the authentic yet unpretentious New England feeling of Cape Ann, its charming architecture, beautiful, friendly family beaches and unsurpassed views of the ocean. This house has all the charm of a 1907 vintage beach house, plenty of room for extended family to spread out and just simply the most exquisite and expansive view of the sea and thatcher Island.

Amenities

From the Owner

Without a doubt, Arbory House is in one of the premier locations in Rockport. It is on a high ridge with 270 degree views of the ocean. The neighboring houses are classic lovely old rambling Shingle Style beach houses. Several have been in the same families for generations. Houses like these have been described as 'The Architecture of the American Summer' by architectural historian Vincent Scully. Our house does truly represent all that is best about summer, it is relaxed but beautiful with a mix of family Antiques and new wicker and comfortable upholstered furniture. my great grandfather's nautical art work adorns the walls. It has all the mod cons but also a great feeling of the past. To sit with a drink on that porch with friends and family is one of the great joys.
