House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)
This charming four-bedroom oceanfront Otter Rock vacation home sits atop a secluded bluff on the Oregon Coast. From the deck, you'll have beautiful views of the shore and the waves rolling into the beach, as well as ample opportunities to breathe in fresh ocean air, watch a dramatic winter storm roll in, or just relax at this peaceful beach getaway. Perfect for family vacations or a quick weekend trip to the coast, this quiet home is near the Devil's Punchbowl State Natural Area, just south of Depoe Bay and Lincoln City. The beach path starts at the end of the driveway.
Inside, there's an open area with the living room, dining table, and kitchen sharing a large, bright space with tile floors and wood-paneled walls. The comfortable sofa is the perfect place to lounge after a day of beachcombing or hiking the region's natural areas, plus you'll have a wood-burning stove to keep the room all toasty while you watch cable or a DVD.
Meals can be eaten with a view at a large table with room for up to eight. And if you need extra space, there you can pull up a couple of stools to the breakfast bar. In the kitchen, there's plenty of counter space for your culinary creations, be it BLTs and soup for lunch or pan roasted salmon for dinner. And although there is not a dishwasher, when everyone works together to clean up after dinner, it's a snap to get everything washed, dried, and put away.
After dinner, pour a glass of wine and head out to the deck for an amazing sunset view. Out here there's deck furniture for observing the view comfortably. Not just for the summer, in the winter you can watch winter storms from the cozy comfort of the living room, or take a quick peek from the deck before returning inside to sit in front of the fire.
On the upper level, you'll find a bedroom with a king bed and one with a double bed and two trundle beds. The king bedroom even has deck access with more of those million dollar ocean views. In the morning, the deck is a great place for hot coffee, yoga stretching, or just using the WiFi to read emails. The other upstairs bedroom's double bed and twin trundle bed is great for kids to share!
On the main level, two more bedrooms hold a queen bed and writing desk in one room and another twin trundle bed and sofa in the other, with a shared bathroom for both. There are also many games, a stereo, and another TV in the trundle room, making it another great kids' space. This home will comfortably sleep 10 guests. In addition, you'll find a laundry room with a full sized washer and dryer for keeping clothes clean and dry while on vacation.
Just north of the house, the Marine Garden at Otter Rock can be accessed by a gravel trail down from the Devil's Punchbowl State Natural Area. This is a popular recreation area complete with intertidal habitats, seabird colonies, and frequently, harbor seal visitors. Most days, artists can be found sketching and painting the views and landscape. The long sandy beach can be walked, while you explore tide pools up close. Several interpretive panels on the walk down will enhance your learning experience as you explore this amazing natural area.
On a rainy day, you may want to plan a day trip to Newport, just 10 minutes south. Here, you'll find a bustling bayfront downtown, restaurants like Local Ocean for fresh seafood with inventive preparations, galleries, and across the iconic Yaquina Bay Bride, the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Before heading back to Otter Rock, make a stop at Rogue Ales Brewer's on the Bay where you can take a brewery tour, sample 40 taps, and nosh on plates of Buffalo chips, burgers, and fish tacos.
On night's you don't feel like cooking, right in Otter Rock there's even an outpost of Mo's Restaurants - Mo's West. Open seasonally, this is the place for bowls of famous clam chowder and fish and chips. Whether you visit in high season, or plan your getaway for a wet, windy weekend, this Otter Creek vacation retreat will feel like home!

Diamond in the rough...I think not!
I will start with the positive side...wonderful location and incredible view from the deck and front windows, as well as close to Newport and all it has to offer. It is also a short drive to L.C.
But there is where it ends...the stench from the house was so bad we had to have the windows open all day while we were out just to be able to sleep at night. I was told this "musty" smell is normal for "older" beach houses in wooded areas...I assure you it is not! There was black mold and water damage around almost every window in the house with the exception of the master bedroom and the front room. The pull out couch in one of the bedrooms had black mold on the mattress and we had to make other arrangements for our children to sleep. The house was dirty and cobwebs filled the corners. Our multiple attempts of contacting the management team during our stay and after were untimely and unsatisfactory. I was told the house is "habitable." And to think I paid for this!!

Cedar House at Otter Rock family reunion
So much fun!
It was a little tricky to find the house number, but it's on the post that secured the chain gate. Once there we were so excited to see the clean and cozy house. The home is not fancy, but it was so much more comfortable that way. There was plenty of basic supplies. The wood stove was a little tricky to start, but it wasn't a need as far as heat goes. There is a bit of a walk down to the beach, but once we were there we stayed for hours! We were able to see crabs, small fish, find sea shells, and even watch a seal sun himself! It was simply beautiful and serene. It was just our family that was there almost all four days! We made memories that will last a lifetime! Thank you for the amazing experience!
Wonderful location, beautiful views and overall just can not be beat for the price.
-Lost Dutchman Winery has a tasting room up the street near devils punchbowl. Free wine tasting and super fun staff.
-Closest market is safeway in Newport, has everything you need.
-instructions on finding the place note a gate, it is actually a cable across the very small dirt road. Just keep going straight on gladys, until you get to it. The driveway is on the other side.
-On the beach side of the driveway gate/cable is the path down to the beach. Be Careful!
-Be sure to visit Nye Beach in Newport, some great little shops, Nana's Irish Pub (a must!) as well as the old wharf area below the bridge in Newport.
-The newport aquarium was a little disappointing for the price. AAA discount is 2.00 and there was a brochure on the wall in the kitchen for 4.00 off if you call ahead for a reservation.
-Rogue brewery is right by the aquarium, a great spot to eat and taste their beers, with a view!
-I would steer clear of the ripleys/wax museum/underwater gardens in the old wharf... epitome of tourist trap. Your experience may vary.
-burgers 101 and rusty truck brewing has some great food and beers. Staff was awesome and friendly.
-Most of all, enjoy the scenery, Don't miss sunset from the balcony and stargazing at night if weather permits!
