Stroll out of mangoes’ back garden gate and across the road to the beautiful platinum coast sands and the caribbean sea. Grab a towel and take the tiny 'swimming key' and off you go!

Our property could not be better placed; we have the sea and beaches less than two minutes walk and a variety of shops, restaurants, bars, banks and a well stocked modern supermarket on the doorstep! Furthermore, the beach club and swimming pool, belonging to local residents and their guests, is also just across the road, with excellent facilities and sun decks and a restaurant at the water's edge!

Mangoes is a large, detached, single storey house. I have an ambition to put a sun deck on the roof where my husband and i (and our guests, of course) can relax whilst watching the setting sun wink green as it dips behind the caribbean horizon .... Dream .... Dream. Back to the reality of now .... The house is very private, being set in large, lush tropical gardens with big gates (safe for children) opening out onto the local roadside at the front and onto the greenbelt and car park at the back. The back gate is the quickest route to the sea.

Outdoor living in barbados is a joy - the weather is so wonderful.

To access the full enjoyment of the outdoors, mangoes offers pure relaxation on the spacious verandah, furnished with a comfortable cane suite comprising couch, two arm chairs and coffee table. This is a superb situation to enjoy warm, velvety caribbean nights, being well lit for reading and overlooking the front garden, pleasingly lit up by well placed spotlights and an arch of fairy lights.

A pine dining set make the verandah and nice place to have lunch too, it being pleasantly shady at that time of day.

A favourite dining area for breakfast is the gazebo, furnished with a stone table and benches, set in the rear gardens. Be prepared to share breakfast with tiny yellow banana birds!

Right next to the gazebo is a sturdy, built in barbecue, with lighting to help keep your culinary efforts on track, and for more formal dining, there is a smart, well furnished “al-fresco' dining room leading from the spacious lounge.

The lounge is furnished with an attractive cane three, two, one suite, coffee table, occasional tables with lamps, telephone, tv cabinet (video and dvd player) and book shelves. There are ceiling fans and this is a breezy room with three sets of french windows, one (double doors) lead into the 'al-fresco' dining room whilst the other two sets lead out onto the verandah. To maximise the breeze, rather than closing the glass doors, there are attractive, lockable, wrought iron gates as an alternative.

For maximum flexibility, mangoes offers seven bed spaces in three spacious bedrooms – one twin/king, one twin/queen and one with three single beds. The three bedded room can be made up as a double plus single and there is a fold-away cot.

Each bedroom is equipped with wardrobes, full length mirrors, washing basket, bedside tables with lamps, hairdryer, ceiling fans and split system air conditioning - at no extra cost!

There are two recently refurbished and re-tiled bathrooms, both with large walk-in showers; seat within in master bathroom.

The kitchen, completely renewed in 2011 with white cupboards and black granite benches, is well equipped, with pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, big stove, fridge/freezer, toaster, coffee maker etc. It opens out through a half glazed door to the rear gardens and gazebo.

There is also a wash room with front loader for guests use, under cover washing lines and the maid's washroom with top loader and tumble dryer (to keep the towels nice and soft).

Mangoes comes with maid service twice per week (no extra charge for this). The maid will change and wash bed linen and towels, sweep and wash floors, clean bathrooms etc.

Back outside, there is a car port with space for two cars and a further two could easily park on the drive.

Nb. The telephone makes free calls around the island. It is not possible to make off-island phone calls but it is possible to receive calls from abroad.

We are Cath and Ian Mills, we've been married (to each other) for quite a few years now. We're still in love and I'm a strong believer in love and romance - even when it's hard work!

We think holidays are one of the most important things in life. You get to recharge your batteries, see new sights and learn about other cultures all in one wholesome, breathtaking experience.

Probably because of the value we have placed on vacations, Ian and I work in tourism in three ways. We live in and run a guest house near the Scottish borders of England, we rent a cute apartment for two in Spain and we are so lucky to have this wonderful, Caribbean dream home in Barbados.

We are very personally involved in the running of all three businesses and always try to build up a good rapport with guests even before they begin their vacations. We answer as many of those pre-holiday questions as we can .... even if we have to research into information outside of our knowledge - it's all useful learning for us too!

Our guest house is very old - over 300 years and was once part of a coaching inn. We've updated it now so that it has all the modern conveniences required today but still retains its quaint character.

We've owned the apartment in sunny Spain twice as long as Mangoes It was our first holiday home and our first experience of holiday rentals.

We haven't forgotten about holidaying ourselves and try to get to Spain several times a year and to Mangoes twice - it would be more but it's a lot further.

One day, maybe we'll just get there and never leave!

Brilliant Barbados

The first thing to mention about Mangoes is it's location, it's brilliant! Situated in a pleasant residential area it is only minutes away from the beach, shops and restaurants as well as good very cheap local bus services. The house has character and the owners appear to have thought of everything. The modern kitchen is well equipped, bathrooms are both nearly new and the bedrooms are all well presented and equipped. The lounge is also well equipped and the dining room is an absolute delight as it has mesh netting windows to 3 sides which keeps it cool. All windows and doors have security bars. For those enjoying outdoor living the large verandah and gardens are ideal. The owner's were extremely helpful in both the booking and during our 16 day trip in December 2013, and we would recommend Mangoes to anybody looking to enjoy a relaxing holiday, be careful though it could be habit forming!

We've been visiting Barbados for around 30 years and bought Mangoes around 10 years ago. We'd stayed in other parts of the island but once we found Sunset Crest, we felt at home straight away. My hubby is much more cautious than I am but I decided that we just had to buy something here so I formulated what I called 'The 8 year plan' which coincided with the end of our then current mortgage which would be Autumn 2003. In spring of that year we 'holidayed' in Barbados for the last time, we looked at a few properties and when I saw Mangoes I was smitten! The rest is history ...... We love our comfortable Bajan home and though we don't get to spend as much time there as we'd like to, we feel every bit as cosy and relaxed at our island villa as we do in England. It's so good to come back twice a year and feel immediately settled in again, as if we've never been away. (Most of our renters says they feel similarly at home at Mangoes too which is very rewarding for all the hard work we have put in.) We have done our best to give as much tender loving care as possible during our ownership - time and the purse strings permitting! It's now a home to be proud of and everybody loves it. We still have more plans for the future but .... Rome wasn't built in a day .... and nor was Mangoes!

Mangoes is situated very close to the beach on the beautiful Platinum Coast of Barbados. Soft, white sands meet the sparkling turquoise waters of the Caribbean sea.

Our section of the West coast has National Park status, and Folkestone Marine Park and Museum, with an aquarium, are only about 10 minutes walk away from Mangoes.

The whole of Barbados is easily accessible from Mangoes and there is a huge range of things to do. A car is not necessary as everything you could need is on the doorstep, but if you wish to see the island attractions and experience the incredible scenery, hiring is recommended.

Barbados is a big little island! Only 21 miles long by 14 wide, it has a wonderful, hilly interior called the 'Scotland District' and an incredible, varying coastline, massive cliffs and pounding waves, wild and treacherous at the North, unique sea-made rock formations on the East, Atlantic coast. Moving around to the Southern tip beaches, we have calmer seas, still to be respected ..... or conquered if you like to surf. This is where the surfing action is based. As we travel North and West, to the area known as the South coast, we arrive at several popular beaches with gentler, playful waves before arriving once again at the white sands and glittering ripples of the West coast.

As well as a spectacular coastline, Barbados offers a choice of tropical, botanical gardens, ancient plantation houses, colourful cultural shows, rum distilleries and more!

Try to see it all!

Sunset Crest, where Mangoes is situated, is an ideal area to holiday. All necessary conveniences are just a few steps away – banks, doctors, chemist (pharmacy) and a well stocked modern grocery supermarket. In addition, restaurants and beach bars abound offering a wide variety of dining experiences to suit all pockets. Souvenirs and gifts can be bought at the delightful chattel village as well as within up-to-the-minute air-conditioned stores and the nearby shopping mall.

Going to the beach is easy – walk right across the road!

A deposit to the value of £200 or 10% (whichever is greater) becomes due immediately upon booking. This is non returnable.
The remaining balance becomes due eight weeks before the first day of rental. If payment becomes overdue, the owners reserve the right to use the eight weeks to re-advertise the property for rent for the booked dates.

Although Mangoes sleeps 7, couples are welcome and prices will be discounted.
Prices quoted are based on full house ie. using all three bedrooms.
Short stays will be at a rate higher than pro rata to cover fixed costs.

The minute I saw Mangoes, I fell in love with it. The beautiful, private (almost secret) tropical gardens .... the generous, relaxing verandah,, the cute gazebo and the best, most perfect location anyone could ever wish for!!! Okay - if you were a millionaire and could afford beach front property or rental prices, maybe the location could be a little better but there could be no improvement on the character! Mangoes could not be better placed; we have the sea and beaches less than two minutes walk and a variety of shops, restaurants, bars, banks and a well stocked modern supermarket on the doorstep! Our area, Sunset Crest is a pleasant, peaceful residential area. Most of the houses are well looked after, detached properties with lovely tropical gardens. The swimming pool, shared only by local residents and their guests, is also just across the road, with sun decks and excellent beach bar/restaurant facilities provided by Beach House. This whole delightful beach complex is situated right at the water's edge so when you've had enough of the pool, stroll out of the side gate and take a walk on the sandy beach or a dip in the warm Caribbean waters. I love to snorkel, and as this whole area is underwater National Park it's a great place for it. Just a few minutes walk to the South there's a nice little beach, lined with reef and with a wreck offshore - I've swum out to it many a time and found myself surrounded by colourful fish. I'd rather be at Mangoes than anywhere else in the world and one day, when the constraints of life permit, that's where we hope/plan to spend a lot of our time. I can't wait!
