House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This adorable two-level Manzanita vacation home is just steps from the beach, shops, galleries, and restaurants. Inside you'll be nice and warm with a wood stove while you do a little storm watching out the west-facing upstairs windows. And while staying at this house on the Northern Oregon Coast, you don't need to leave you furry family friend at home, as it's pet-friendly for up to one 50 lb dog!

Inside you'll find the main living area upstairs, with a fun and eye-catching minimalist/shabby chic aesthetic. With colors like blue, greens, and yellows, this space has a decidedly clean, beachy feel. Lounge back on the couch and watch a DVD on the flat screen TV or set up the telescope and look for sea life out the west-facing windows.

A dining table seats four right by a cozy window seat. After dinner, curl up on the cushions and gaze out at the ocean while finishing up your glass of wine. In addition to the dining table, there are three bar stools at the kitchen counter to grab a quick snack or set up your laptop and check your email with the WiFi.

In the open kitchen, cheery bright yellow cabinets greet you, as well as all the major appliances (including a dishwasher) and tools you'll need for whipping up a pot of satisfying clam chowder or even pan-roasting some steaks. In the mornings, grab a cup of coffee and head out to the deck to enjoy the morning and ocean views.

Also on the deck outside, aside from a beautiful view, you'll have a private hot tub and propane grill at your disposal. After spending the day beach combing, collecting shells, and flying kites, come back for a warming soak in the hot tub followed by grilled salmon or skewers of shrimp. This upper deck wraps around the whole front of the home and has plenty of patio furniture so you'll be able to find your favorite spot to relax. You can even take advantage of the outdoor fire pit to share stories and roast some s'mores!

The main level bedroom has a queen bed and a TV, as well as a futon for extra sleeping space or a cozy spot to lounge and read a book. This room also has tall, slanted ceilings and a pretty iron bed frame. Downstairs, the second bedroom awaits. This room also has a queen sized bed and a TV, making its inhabitants very comfortable. On this lower level there is also a second living room with a sleeper sofa for additional sleeping options.

Two bathrooms are also conveniently located throughout the home - one upstairs and one downstairs. Other amenities at this cute house include a laundry room with a washer and dryer for guest use, and central heating for those chilly coast nights.

Outside, there's a yard for kids and pets to play that is partially surrounded by trees. And just about two houses away - beach access! Enjoy seven miles of beautiful, flat, sandy beach. Run with the dog, fly kites, bring a picnic down to the beach and spend a sunny afternoon watching the waves roll in.

In the mornings, join the locals in line for pastries and coffee drinks at Bread and Ocean Bakery - and while you're there, you may want to pick up a loaf of freshly baked bread to go with your clam chowder dinner. After fueling up, if it's a nice day, make the hike up to Neahkahnie summit for amazing views all down the coast to Tillamook Bay.

Easily walkable from the house, in addition to the bakery, you'll find a nice collection of bookstores, restaurants, shops, and galleries along the main drag of Laneda Avenue. Pick up some books and spend the day reading on the beach or at your cozy dining room window seat.

On stormy nights, brave the weather and pick up a roasted vegetable pizza at Marzano's and spend the night inside, watching DVDs or playing board games. Or, hole up at Vino Manzanita for some wine, warming snacks, and live music.

From here, there are also a number of nearby day trip destinations - Cannon Beach for gallery browsing, antiquing in Wheeler, museums and Fort George Brewery in Astoria. The first two destinations are within a 20 minute drive, and Astoria is just an hour to the north, with plenty of opportunities for scenic excursions along the way.

Whether it's at the height of the summer season, or a quiet winter weekend, the Oregon Coast is truly a year-round destination. And at this cozy, Manzanita getaway, everyone in your group will feel right at home.

Girls weekend!

  • 4 of 5
My girls and I went for two nights in March. This house is in a perfect location just a couple blocks from town and steps to the beach. There's a really nice view from the deck and we loved having our coffee in the window seat and watching the waves. The layout is really good and would be perfect for two couples or even two families as there is an upstairs room with a bathroom and a downstairs room and bathroom. Both levels also have a living room with aTV. We did a little shopping and exploring but didn't get out as much as we wanted since it was like a monsoon out! I would definitely recommend this property to friends and even consider renting it again myself. My only complaint is that the hot tub was not hot. Really kind of disappointed about that since I had said to the manager that not having the hot tub was a deal breaker. Manzanita is a cute little town with a nice beach and overall we were happy with our stay. Just might order up more sunshine next time!

Two minutes to the beach

  • 5 of 5
This house has a great location, not beach frontage but the next best thing: across the street from the houses that do. A multilevel house in a nice, woody setting, with good views to the water, and on a quiet back street, but only two minutes from the beach--and the main street of Manzanita.

Most of the house is bright, the one exception being the dark (and cold) downstairs bedroom. But the diverse levels make the house seem even bigger than it is, and there are lots of places inside to sit and look out the windows, or read. The L-shaped deck faces the beach and is partly roofed (so you can find some shade on hot sunny evenings), with an outdoor grill and hot tub (neither of which we actually used--but some would, no doubt, enjoy them).

The town has a range of eateries, from pizza and Mexican food, to classy small restaurants/bistros with excellent food and wine, and coffee (Blackbird and Vino), and a great bakery (Bread and Ocean).

Manzanita is MUCH quieter than Cannon Beach, but with a lot of its appeal from earlier days, Haystack Rock aside--and we'll certainly try to book 11 Merton Lane again when we return to Manzanita, which we hope to do again, and soon.

Ideal Location

  • 5 of 5
Beautiful views of the ocean, short walk to beach and downtown, nice deck that can accommodate eight people comfortably, well-stocked kitchen, washer & dryer, and two bedrooms (one up and one down) with separate bathrooms. Both floors have a nice living room space, too. Ideal set up for grandparents upstairs and parents and children downstairs (kids could sleep in living room).
