(Please also see my waterfront home in Fairhope, AL. It is VRBO listing number 170332. A good place for folks from New Orleans to go be on the water.)

This wonderful, huge apartment with double parlors, your own private entrance, and shared courtyard (with fountain) in an 1889 Eastlake Victorian House is your gateway to the heart of one of the most beautiful and fascinating cities in the world.

In the Lower Garden District historical section of New Orleans, this house is just two blocks from satisfying your craving for antiques of the finest kind, the best roasted coffee, food at some of the most amazing restaurants, and booze at an incredibly eclectic collection of bars on Magazine Street.

It is just three blocks from the Convention Center (if you, unfortunately, have to work), and Mardi Gras World, where you can see how that party started, and where many of the parades start during Mardi Gras itself. As a matter of fact, between Mardi Gras World and St. Charles Street, 30... Yes... THIRTY parades go within six blocks of this house (but not right in front of the house). That's good, see? You won't find anybody sleeping it off on your porch in the morning.

Speaking of St. Charles Street, a six-block walk, past some of the most beautiful and elegant houses, between Magazine and St. Charles, gets you to the streetcar. The closest stop is St. Charles at Felicity. $1.25 (exact change please) gets you a ride on the best way to travel in the U.S.A.!

You say you want to party... Hmm... No problem. Just remember that this is a residential neighborhood, and we like our neighbors, so the major partying will be done out in the city. If Magazine Street and its pleasures are too sedate for you, head down Annunciation Street toward the Warehouse District, CBD, and the French Quarter. a 10-minute walk gets you to The Rusty Nail, Bellocq, Ugly Dog Saloon, Dino's, The Circle Bar, Republic New Orleans, and on and on...

Feeling more thoughtful... The wonderful National WWII Museum, one of the most popular attractions in New Orleans, is a ten-minute walk away as well, and is great for kids, too. The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and the Confederate Memorial Hall Museum are right next door. By the way, if all the walking starts to bother you, and you have taken full advantage of the streetcar, a phone call will get a cab to the house in 5 minutes.

Food... Well, what can I say? Cochon, Annunciation, Eleven 79, Mayas Nuevo Latino, HiVolt, and Half Moon are some of our favorite places within short walking distance. there is no limit to where you can eat, and we will be happy to give you a list, suggestions, and so forth.

To sum up, in terms of location, you have it all right here at your fingertips! Enjoy!

About the Owner

After traveling a great deal, this native of Mobile (whose mother was a true Beatnik who lived on Royal Street in the Quarter in the early sixties), and his wife, a true Frenchie, bought this house as a way to recapture and exercise their love for the Deep South, France, and urban living, all in one fell swoop.

Spacious and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5
The house was perfect for our girls' weekend. It was easy to get to, parking was not a problem, and we could walk to the French Quarter and the riverfront if we didn't feel like driving. The rooms are large and comfortable, and we had everything we needed to cook meals at home, and it wasn't difficult to find a nice market to buy food (and wine). The owners were easy to communicate with and offered great recommendations for newcomers to NOLA. I would definitely stay here again.

New Orleans house

  • 5 of 5
Great place, exactly as pictured. Well maintained, clean. Lovely front porch and back courtyard area- except for the mosquitos :) Sabin couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating. We didn't have a car- and didn't need one- we were able to walk, take the trolley or a cab any where we needed to go. Would definitely stay again.

Owner's Response: Ha! Wish I could do more about the mosquitos, though we do have a regular bug contract on the house. Welcome to New Orleans, where the mosquitos are above average, but the city is outstanding!

Highly recommended

  • 5 of 5
I went on a family vacation here with my wife, her mother and our two year old daughter. We loved the house and our trip. The house is impressively well maintained and clean. It is a great location in a quiet neighborhood, and walking distance to many cafés, shops and restaurants on Magazine street. It is also walking distance to the street cars which can take you directly to the French Quarter.

Awesome Anniversary At Annunciation A+ !!!

  • 5 of 5
Two couples spent a wonderful weekend celebrating our anniversaries (32 and 30 years!) in New Orleans. The flavor of the great city began with this charming New Orleans home. It is very spacious inside and out. Enjoy the friendly neighborhood from the front porch or the peacefulness of the private garden courtyard. Our host Sabin was a dream to work with; providing great details of the home and area in his write-up, and personally suggesting some of our favorite stops. The home is conveniently located near the streetcar and highway access, Magazine Street and downtown. Within walking distance from great food and happy hour, coffee and pastry. Don't think twice!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much indeed for choosing our place to spend your anniversaries! That is such a special occasion, and the fact that you enjoyed the house makes us feel like we were part of your celebration.

I hope that you will come back. It is so nice to have appreciative and kind guests. Thank you again.

Perfect Hub for a NOLA getaway

  • 5 of 5
This house exceeded our expectations for our guys weekend in New Orleans. The location was great. It allows you to experience a neighborhood outside the French Quarter while being a short walk to it. The house was a really cool shotgun style home that has been updated and is well appointed. Very clean with anything you would need. The owner gave us a nice packet with all the details of the house, as well as things to do around the city. It was great for when you need a little downtime. Still felt like you're in NOLA and not some generic hotel room. The next time a group of us come to NOLA, I will book here.

Owner's Response: Aha! Thank you for your review!

One thing, though: this apartment is not a shotgun. The bedrooms are upstairs. Consequently, there is no walking through sleeping areas in order to get to the kitchen or the bathroom (that is part of the definition of a shotgun). By the way, folks, for those of you who have not yet stayed here, this apartment has two bedrooms upstairs in what is called a "Camelback", about 1700 ft.² of space, a double parlor, dining room, office, full blown kitchen, and a 1200 square-foot courtyard, all for you! Take a look at the floor plan on the web-site.

Look forward to you guys coming back at some point.
Thank you again!

Owner's Response: Yes, indeed! We do love that fountain and the tropical feel! Let's hope for no freezes this coming winter. New Orleans occasionally has one or two. Those bananas get ripe around January, by the way!

Thank you again for your stay!
