A separate cottage featuring all the amenities, spacious 1 bedroom, 1 bath .

Why not stay at Le Bijou? It is within the hustle bustle, sights and sounds of downtown Seattle (theater district, Space Needle, Pikes Place Market, Museums, etc.), but located on historic Queen Anne Hill, highest point in the city at 520' able sea level . Le Bijou is situated on the west facing bluff over Elliott Bay and looking at Puget Sound. Le Bijou is an ideal setting for visiting the 'Emerald City', family and friends, University of Washington/ Hospitals/Research Centers (all major hospitals and medical research centers including Children's Hospital), the Gates Foundation, numerous Medical Research Centers, all major hospitals including Children's Hospital.

'Le Bijou' of Queen Anne (The Jewel of Queen Anne) is a 1909 craftsman's cottage located on the western bluff facing Puget Sound in coveted Queen Anne . It has it own entry and sits overlooking the courtyard. A true craftsman recreated the fine details of craftsmanship present at the turn of the century: Crown molding, wainscoting, lathe and plaster ceilings, walls and original old growth fir floors were lovingly and meticulously repaired and restored.

~Le Bijou is completely equipped with all modern conveniences and luxuries one would hope to find in vintage yet totally modern accommodations in the city but in the private, quiet, intimate and serene setting of Queen Anne.

~Enter the cottage along a bricked walkway through the front garden to the courtyard and the entrance to the cottage. It is a private retreat.

~The living room retains the original architectural elements with a gas fireplace added to take the chill from the evening air. A beautiful antique cherry mantel with marble surround is a focal point of the living room.

~How often do you have the opportunity to sleep on freshly ironed sheets? Opening the french doors will lead you to the master bedroom with an antique iron bed containing an ultra plush queen-sized mattress, luxurious bedding from Frette and Ralph Lauren, linens from Thomas Lee and Charles P. Rogers of New york. Enjoy freshly ironed crisp linens as you slid into bed for a peaceful nights slumber.

There is additional queen-sized bed in the living room. The couch/hideabed made by American Leather, is the finest most comfortable hideabed made. It is NOT your typical hideabed. Of course, the linens are freshly ironed.

~ The kitchen has everything a cook could want: original cabinetry plus a farmer's cast iron apron sink, exquisite tile work, a granite table with 2 whimsical chairs that remind your host of 'Alice in Wonderland' and the Red Queen at tea in the garden.

~The bathroom has everything to pamper you: heated floors, a restored claw foot cast iron soaking tub, 48' granite topped vanity with plenty of drawers for longer stays and a graciously sized shower designed and tiled as if it were a seaside landscape. Turkish towels of the highest quality are provided for you as well as top of the line spa quality cleansing products. For stays longer than 7 days, fresh linens and towels will be provided.

'Le Bijou' is completely separated and self-sufficient as if you were staying in your own home. One enters the brick courtyard along a bricked garden path past a unique garden created at the front of the property. You will be welcomed into the courtyard with perennial and annual flowers creating a lush garden atmosphere. You can barbecue your catch of the day, spend the afternoon in comfortable seating enjoying the sunshine or sitting around the fire pit. Spend an afternoon or evening relaxing, barbecuing , sitting by a fire in the evening, dine by moon light, enjoy the magnificent views from the bluff and Puget Sound.

Your cottage is located down a walkway to the left upon entering the property along a lighted brick path in front of the main house to the courtyard of 'Le Bijou'. A lockbox is provided for guests for access day or night.

I live in the main home. I am available to answer questions, provide information, or find what might be missing from the kitchen or anything you need.

West Queen Anne is on the bluff overlooking Puget Sound, West Seattle, the Olympic Range and Cruise Ship Terminal. The immediate area is easily accessible to the Theatre District, Seattle Center/Space Needle, shopping and dining and boutique bars in upper and lower QA, artisanal bakeries, quaint shops, Pike's Peak Market, SAM (Seattle Art Museum), many university level educational facilities and more. All major hospitals Virginia Mason Hospital, Swedish Medical Center, Group Health Hospital, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute and The Gates Foundation are within 10 to 15 minutes. Queen Anne is like an oasis of calm and tranquitiy within the heart of the city's hustle and bustle.

'Le Bijou' of Queen Anne is 1/2 block from the bus stop and within easy walking distance of lower and upper Queen Anne, Seattle Center/Theatre District, The Gates Foundation and a short hop to South Lakes Union, and all of Seattle's many attractions while providing the ultimate privacy and comfort in a beautiful setting. For longer distances, a car is recommended.

Location and accommodations are ideal for visitors, vacationers and executives, and individuals here for medical reasons (close proximity to hospitals and medical research centers).

About the Owner

Formerly a 30 year resident of Alaska, I have also done extensive travel and/or living in Europe, the Middle East, and in Africa. I am, of course, anxious to travel more. I have always been very keen on outdoor activities: non technical climbing, downhill and cross country skiing, bicycling, casual hiking. I have an adventuresome spirit and always looking for the next fork in fork road

Since arriving in Seattle, I have thoroughly enjoying all of the amenities that the Pacific NW offers. I am located in the hub of what is happening in Seattle area for access to all that might be needed: coffee shops galore, bars and restaurants for the foodies...anything you could want, wonderful social life, and of course, the Seattle Art Center which has amazing exhibits. Easy bus transport ion anywhere you want to go. Plus there are all the activities related to the water of Puget Sound, Lake Union and Lake Washington. Technology and medical research facilities, Amazon are located in close proximity.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our host, Debera, was most gracious and kind. She made us feel at home right away. We appreciated so much the craftsmanship of her cottage: the lovely fireplace, the scintilating small tiles over the kitchen sink, the claw foot tub, the granite-tiled shower, the perfectly comfortable bed, the modern kitchen. It is all of a piece. We went for many walks in the wonderful Queen Anne neighborhood, and truly hated to leave Le Bijou. But we hope to come back next year. Thank you, Debera. Susan and Bob

We had and amazing time at this beautiful bungalow very warm and inviting, the bed was so comfortable you didn't even want to get out of it. The bathroom was bar none my favorite, great claw foot tub the shower was awesome and quite large. The house had everything you could need and if something was needed Debra had it. Debra was amazing we even picked apples out of her tree and I made fried apples for breakfast. And great places eat if you like oysters you must try Taylor Shellfish farms they are the freshest oysters you will get!!!! and take a ride over to Alki Beach its like going back in time about 20 minutes by car it is a quaint seaside area great for families and if you go there try Christos it is a family run restaurant with amazing Pizza and Gyros with great views as well. Thank you Debra for amazing accommodations hope to see you soon. Randal and Renee

Amazing Stay

We loved everything about this property, romantic, relaxing, refreshing. Warm and inviting after a long day out. It was home away from home. The gardens are beautiful, sit outside and sip a glass of wine and chill. My husband and I loved the location, it was so convenient taking busses, trains, etc. Bus #1 takes you any where downtown and brings you back to Queen Anne 11th street, one block from the cottage. Our host Deberea is one amazing lady, very accommodating and informative and very nice. She was able to answer any question and concerns. The restaurants we ate at were amazing. the needle is a must see. The gourmet walk was fabulous also a must do, Pikes Market a must. Restaurant recommendations for all: Toulouse Petit, Local 360, Black Bottle, 5 Stop, Von 's Gustobistro Etta's Seafood, also for a sweet tooth must visit The Yellow Leaf Cupcake Company, so yummy!!!! There is many amazing restaurants, we were only able to do so many on our 7 day stay.

Owner's Response: Hi Micheline and Ken,
You toured Seattle and its environs like pros. I have never heard of even half the places you visited, enjoyed the cuisine of some many interesting cafes and restaurants or just poked around as much as the 2 of you. And then, Ken also went off on his birding adventures. Plus you cooked gorgeous meals at home.
I hope you do post your photos and videos to Youtube as you have a gift for framing photos especially of food beautifully. I know its that Italian blood in you.
My very best to both of you, it was a lot of fun sitting and enjoying the view, a glass of wine and conversation.

A gem!

What an amazing place! We feel so lucky to have had an opportunity to stay at this beautiful little cottage and have met its fabulous owner. The cottage is furnished and decorated with great taste and every little detail is thought through with such care. There is everything you'll ever need, and even more. The bathroom is simply luxurious, as is the bed!
Travelling with a toddler is never easy, but thanks to Debera and our wonderful "home" in Seattle, it was an adventure which all of us enjoyed! There was enough place in the bedroom to put our travel crib and the garden is so beautiful and provided enough place for playtime for our little one and a beautiful seating area among the flowers for us.
The house is located in a wonderful area of Seattle which is a sight in itself, and the location is peaceful and quiet.
And last but not least, we could not have wished for a better hostess! Debera is welcoming, kind and thoughtful, and just a very warm person, who we truly enjoyed meeting.
Thank you Debera and Le Bijou, when we think of Seattle, we will forever think of you too! We hope we'll have a chance to return one day. And to all you, fellow travelers, drop the idea of staying at a hotel, and choose Le Bijou instead!

Owner's Response: Veronika, Julien and your beautiful baby girl,
It was my pleasure to host you at Le Bijou. Your visit was short but I think you used it very well with the baby accommodations necessary. I would have loved to sit around in the courtyard and tried to refresh my French. Perhaps you will visit again and we will have more time.

In the meantime, thank you for the beautiful review. You are fantastic expressing yourself in a second or third or fourth language. Not easy to do even in a first language for many of us.
Wishing you the best in your travels, new work experience and in life.

First visit to Seattle

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I were very happy with our stay at the beautifully refinished Queen Anne craftsman cottage. Debera made us feel welcome and was a great hostess/landlord for our week in Seattle. Outstanding garden, views of the sound and close to downtown. Perfect! This was our first visit to Seattle and we could not have found a better place to stay.

Owner's Response: Hi Janet,
It was a pleasure having you and your husband at Le Bijou. Thank you so much for your comments on my gardens. They were an effort of love as well as the renovating of the cottage. Perhaps next time you will be able to enjoy the fire pit in the front with the Sound view. You were definitely on the move while here. I should also have the barbecue up and running. Perhaps it will be an outdoor kitchen as well. I am still in the planning stages of how I can enhance the ambiance of Le Bijou. I think it is a very special little oasis within the city. Best wishes to you and I hope to see you again,
Debera Reiley

A wonderful stay!

This cottage is as beautiful as it appears in the listing. Every detail, fixture, window shade, towel, linen is gorgeous. The bathroom and shower with stocked with nice soaps and shampoo/conditioner. It's like a luxurious hotel suite, but with charm. Debera was a very gracious host. This is the perfect place for a getaway for a couple. It's in a lovely part of Queen Anne where, at every turn, you get a view of Puget Sound. I would highly recommend this as a vacation rental.

Owner's Response: Hi Kammie,
I hope you are finally settled into your home. What an adventure you had returning to Seattle after living in California and France for 3 years. I miss Bandit.

You were the best of guests putting up with my little (?) construction project. Most everything is done, I think. I'd love to have you visit to see the difference in the exterior environment.

Thank you so much for choosing Le Bijou for your re entry to Seattle while you waited for your home to be vacant.

Owner's Response: Dear Marianne and Fred,
What a treat to have you as guests and learning about all of the trails systems that you were hiking and sharing with me. You gave me a lot of incentive to get back out there again. So far, I have done 3 wonderful hikes uniquely different but each stellar.
I hope to see you again and hear of your travels and hiking in the Italian Alps...sorry about the early morning call to your daughter to get the name of the hike you loved here while you all were in Italy.

Many changes and improvements to the Le Bijou property since you visited. I think I am nearing the end of this phase of improvements. They are really beautiful and add so much to Le Bijou.
Sending you best wishes,

From the Owner

I had not owned a home in 20 years because of traveling and assorted other reasons. I felt the need to put down roots somewhere the rent would not escalate...but taxes would. When I found this place at the end of 2013, it was run down, everything overgrown, little to no maintenance in years, complete renovation of everything was needed. I saw the possibilities, liked the neighborhood, the bluff and sunsets, a place to garden, a place of tranquility and LOTS of work. One year later, I am still working on it and will be for probably years to come. I like the process of dreaming the impossible and making the dream come true. I love the cottage. I will go over there when there are no quests and feel like I have gone on vacation. I thoroughly enjoy the setting on the West Bluff looking out to Puget Sound with the marine traffic coming and going. The street is tree lined and quiet, not something I experienced in lower Queen Anne. The property offered me a place to live and make a home plus this darling cottage that I have lovingly restored to its former beauty and given it my own twist of creativity. Then, the opportunity to garden again did the trick for me. I love this location as I am so close to everything mentioned before but feel like I am not in the city. I can take what I want in the city and then retreat to my little haven on Queen Anne. There is a tranquility about living here that is very special to me.

From the Owner

'Le Bijou', (The Jewel), is a separate beautiful space. It is not living in someones home, or a condo/apartment. It is 15 to 20 minutes from everything from entertainment, hospitals, research centers, technology research, universities but right in the city. Le Bijou's location is Queen Anne and on the west bluff with expansive views of Puget Sound, fabulous sunsets and sunrises is my idea of perfect. My street is quiet with great neighbors who all seem to have the doggies. It is a place of calmness and tranquility but accessible to whatever it is that pleases you. Coming home is like ....well, really coming home.
