Great location!

  • 4 of 5
We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. The location is ideal for walking into downtown or driving to nearby Wineries. The neighborhood is quiet and pretty. It was great for our two couples. The rooms and beds we're clean and comfortable. The bathroom tub was a bit challenging, but the claw foot is charming.

Great in town cottage!

  • 4 of 5
We had a great first time trip to Napa, and loved staying in the quaint town of Calistoga. This is a perfect location to park the car and walk around town, or ride bikes everywhere. You really don't need a car once you get here! The cottage is very cute, and was great for us (2 couples), not a big kitchen but we spent so little time in the cottage it was perfect.

The Calistoga bike shop is a couple of blocks away and have great bike rentals and a wine country tour that includes tasting fees. This was by far the most fun and best bang for your buck type of event we did...

Adele, the owner of the cottages is incredibly helpful in trip planning, she knows everything! Be sure to ask her for advice!

Overall, a great stay, and one of the better priced homes we found, we would stay again!

Solid bang for your buck

To start, the owner of the property could not have been nicer. Extremely helpful and willing to offer recs on places to eat around town if needed. She was easy to reach and called to follow up after our stay to make sure we enjoyed it. For the property, here's the good and bad. On the bad side, as mentioned in the previous review, the shower situation is tricky. None of the people in our group is elderly or has knee or hip issues, but if anyone in your party does, the shower will be a problem. For anyone else, it should be no problem. Also, there is nowhere to put your soap or any other shower items. Would be helpful to have this added. The house itself was clean but it could use some TLC to really take this house to the next level as far as being a great Napa Valley stay. The carpets were clean, no issues there, but they are definitely worn and have some minor stains. Interior could use a fresh coat of paint in certain areas, and the bedspreads were quite dated and looked well used. Finally, the VRBO site stated the property had a two night minimum. We booked the place, and were disappointed to get a response that said our booking wasn't accepted by the owner bc they required a three night minimum. After several days, we were able to get the issue resolved and they allowed us to book for two nights, but this issue added a lot of unneeded stress for our vacation. This to me was the biggest issue of all and needs to be addressed so the VRBO site shows the same thing that the owner desires. We would have been extremely upset if we missed out on our other lodging options while we were trying to resolve the issue and were left with no place to stay. As for the good, everything else was solid. Beds were very comfortable, bed linens and shower towels were great, wifi was strong, front yard was great to look at with tons of flowers and as mentioned the owner was very pleasant to deal with. It was priced about right, any more and we would stay elsewhere, but overall we enjoyed our stay here. We would stay here again.

Owner's Response: What a nice review. Thanks so much. As to the shower, it is a claw-foot tub right now, and you either love or hate those. We may change it out, however for right now, we will let people know about this feature. Looks like the major issue was the two or three night stay that needs clarification. The three night stay is during our highest season, when the grapes are picked and most people stay longer to attend many of the 400 events going on at the 400 wineries in Napa. It is posted on the website, but somehow our guests must have missed it. I am happy they did stay and hope to see them again.

Charming cottage

  • 4 of 5
My mother, sister and I were looking for a little house for our biannual visit to Calistoga for spas, dining and shopping. We were happy to find this little house, as most hotels with suites were booked. The duplex is on a quiet street, just a block from the main street (Lincoln). It made our daily walks really easy! The duplex it self was quite comfortable, but a little gaudy in decoration. Not as clean as I would have liked either (worn carpets which was not well-vacuumed; also spots on shower curtain and ceiling), but the bed and bath linens were excellent. We liked the little front porch and yard and the terrific little kitchen. We were a little put off by the bathroom: the tub was quite dangerous for anyone unsteady on their feet (as a senior would be), and had nothing to hold on to in getting in and out of the tub/shower. Also, there was no place to hang towels, nor to hold soap or shampoos while in the shower! Really odd! Other than those things, our stay there was really enjoyable. The wi-fi signal was excellent. We are not TV people, but it would have been nice to have more than the basic channels and have a selection of books, dvds, or other things to entertain oneself in the evening. But the whole point of our visit was to be OUT and about, so that didn't faze us too much. We probably won't stay here again, given the bathroom situation, but other travelers might not mind that. We've found other properties in town to be more suitable...

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your review. I am so happy the family had a good time in our small walkable town. The bathtub is a classic clawfoot tub, and you either love them or hate them. Sorry the tub didn't work for you. We will definitely consider making a change there. I have spoken to our maid about the vacuuming of the carpets more thoroughly. She generally does a creditable job but there are times when she may not have. The TV does have 30 channels, but we have augmented it with the DVD player and some of my favorite movies. I will add more books that might appeal to everyone. There is so much to do in the wine country, we overlooked the fact that some folks like to read a good book away from home. We will add more books. In general, it sounds like the stay was enjoyable and we so much appreciated your comments. It will help us create a better experience for other travelers, which is the most important outcome of dialogue.
