Are you the kind of traveler that likes the finer things in life? Have you noticed that many vacation rentals don't quite reach the standards of a fine hotel? Well, look no further. This property is truly five star but is affordable too. We have pillow top mattresses from Serta, 400 thread count sheets, thick towels, robes, slippers and Salvatore Ferragamo bath amenities. The details are too numerous to list but rest assured all is top of the line throughout this charming home.

Our flat has beautiful hardwood floors, thick area rugs, beautiful architectural details and fixtures. Everything is new and immaculate and very well maintained too. Of course wireless internet is included as is the Nespresso machine for that morning cappuccino or latte as you enjoy the view out the living room windows towards the Santa Barbara Riviera.

There are two bedrooms (one Queen and one California King) each with their own full bath with Carrera marble counters, white tiled floors and shower/tub with all new fixtures. Both rooms have luxury quality linens, extra pillows, thick towels, robes/slippers, flat screen televisions with DVD players, and Sonos music systems. Everything is truly five star quality.

The kitchen has everything you need. It is very well equipped and again, everything is new. Beautiful Caesar stone counters, subway tiled back splash, convection gas range, built in refrigerator with ice maker, Nespresso coffee machine and a milk frother for that perfect latte, and little extras like a picnic basket for that afternoon at the beach.

The unit is totally self contained with it's own private laundry facilities. This five unit building includes a beautiful courtyard area with a large outdoor dining table and barbeque which is shared.

This is a great neighborhood (the 'upper east') just four blocks off State Street where you'll find so many great restaurants and boutiques. Santa Barbara farmers market is 10 blocks, Mission is 10 blocks, Yoga studio 3 blocks, Santa Barbara Bowl (concert venue) 8 blocks Museum of Art 7 blocks, Presidio 7 blocks. Across the street is a small family run convenience store for last minute supplies.

Other Things to Note:

Parking is on the street, and is readily available. No smoking allowed anywhere on the property, no pets. This is not a party flat and is only intended for the use of the registered guests whose quiet enjoyment will not disrupt others on the property.

There is a 5 night minimum stay and 7 night minimum June through August. Rates are as follows and will be prorated for stays of less than a week:

January-March $1395/week

April-May $1495/week

June-August $1795/week

September-October $1495/week

November-December $1395/week

Plus $125 cleaning fee and 12% tax for stays shorter than 31 days.

Stay 3 weeks and the 4th week is free!

Check in time is after 3pm and check out is by 11am.

Elegant Living--5 Star Quality Throughout

My husband wrote a wonderful review of our experience in this Upper East downtown flat, but I wanted to add my own comments about this remarkable two bedroom apartment.
I had the privilege of growing up in Santa Barbara and after college returned to town with my husband. We had a beautiful home in the Lincolnwood area where we raised our three sons. We never expect to leave that home. But life changes and now we only live in Santa Barbara part time so we put our home on the market and looked for new options.
From the moment I saw Peter's apartment online I knew it was a place we could be happy. It has the remarkable combination of the best 5 star hotel you've ever stayed in with the added benefit of the warmth and comfort of home. The rooms are light and bright; the windows and sliding glass doors are huge with incredible views of rooftops, foothills, and a glimpse of the ocean; the furnishings are gorgeous AND comfortable; the decor is exquisite from the historic pictures of old Santa Barbara on the walls, beautifully framed mirrors, pictures, and lighting to accent each room; there are simple/elegant details in every corner without any sense of clutter; orchids throughout the rooms add color and beauty; I challenge anyone to find a more comfortable mattress and pillow set; the bedding and towels feel brand new; the kitchen has high quality appliances and is stocked with anything one might need including a dishwasher that you won't know is running and a separate laundry room.
But, that is only part of what makes this unit so charming. The apartment is one of 5 units in the building. Each unit is of the same high quality. The details outside the unit are as meticulous as those inside: from the wrought iron rails and potted succulents that grace the railings with color, to the beautiful blue accent of paint and colorful Spanish tiles throughout the courtyard and staircase...everything is elegant. We've sat beside the beautiful courtyard fountain on warm days soaking in the sun and enjoyed outdoor barbeque meals with the convenience of the grill, table and chairs.
But, honestly one of my favorite things about this unit are the people in the building and the neighborhood. The other tenants are friendly and quiet. The neighborhood is charming.
Add to all this the convenience of being close to downtown--walking distance to shopping, restaurants, the Mission, the County Bowl, and hikes in the foothills and you've defined perfect!

Captures the Essence of the Santa Barbara Soul

My wife and I lived in Santa Barbara for 25 years until recently moving to Palm Springs. We wanted a place to rent for this summer as we are not ready to say goodbye to Santa Barbara completely. We know the area extremely well and evaluated dozens of units before selecting this unit.

As I write this review, we have been here for 9 weeks. It is an amazing base for anyone wanting to sample all that Santa Barbara has to offer.

First, the unit is beautiful, impeccably decorated, and well-appointed. It feels more like a high-end home than a vacation rental.

Second, it gets great light and the views are wonderful. From the living room you look up to the Riviera, but in the foreground you see a set of very nice, eclectic homes and apartments that feel more like a quaint Italian village than California. From the bedroom is a street view, with the ocean just visible in the distance. I don't want to oversell the ocean view ... but it is just slightly visible.

Third, the location is very central. It is an easy walk to all that State Street has to offer. You are on State Street within 4 minutes, and the far end is perhaps 20-25 minutes. The beach is another 10 from that. Going the other direction, you can walk to the Mission in 10 minutes. A more strenuous walk (but very rewarding) is up the Riviera, with its amazing homes and views. Or, if you are short on time, Alice Keck Park is an amazing urban park just a few blocks away. The Santa Barbara Bowl is an amazing venue for outdoor concerts and is perhaps a 15 minute walk -- a great summer evening walk.

Fourth, the landlord (Peter) is wonderful. Anything you need is just a phone call away. It is clear he takes tremendous pride in this unit. We have felt extremely well taken-care of.

Now, no place is perfect, so here are my quibbles. The price of being close to all the action is a little noise. There is a cute neighborhood grocery store across the street and a fair amount of basic street noise. It is all very tolerable, but it is not library quiet by any means. Also, there is no A/C, and in the summer months there is always that one week that is hot. That is not the week to be in this unit. The other 51 weeks? Perfect.

My wife and I travel extensively and we have rented properties all over the world. I can honestly say this has been the best. Which is why we just booked it for next summer as well!

I simply love this neighborhood. I lived a block from here for many years and love the convenience to so many of Santa Barbara's attractions. All of downtown is easily accessible by foot or better yet rent a bicycle and enjoy so much more. You'll really feel like a local being here with access to the farmers markets, great locals restaurants along with the classic tourist destinations in the city.

I am the kind of traveler that tends to splurge on a nice hotel once in a while. And vacation rentals often lack that level of detail either in their décor or quality of furnishings. Bed comfort is one of those things that five star hotels get right and many others do not. The comfort and quality of our flat really is at the very top of the best properties in the world.
