Adorable rustin cabin with a great view.

We had 3 generations staying for an extended weekend to attend my neice's wedding and our party of 13 had a wonderful time staying in Papa Bear Lodge! The cabin is really rustic & cute. It was apptly named as it is decorated with lots of bears. It is exactly what we had hoped for including a beautiful view of the colorful mountains. (All I kept saying all weekend was, "It's SOOOOO pretty here!" Do the locals ever get used to seeing that beauty?) Because we were there during peak leaf changing season the traffic in Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge was crazy busy so you must leave early if you plan to arrive on time for any activities. For some of us, our favorite activity was the zipline tour we did out near Hartford, TN, about an hour's drive from Gatlinburg. ( I noticed after we'd already booked our tour on-line that there are other ziplines closer but we enjoyed the sights as we drove there, so no biggy.) The times we had questions for the owners, they were very helpful. We had plenty of room and parking, the kids enjoyed the game room downstairs, and we all agree that we would not hesitate to stay at Papa Bear Lodge again.

Smokey Mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5
We recently stayed at the Papa Bear cabin and were very pleased with the accommodations. The views of the mountains from not only the deck but the inside of the cabin are truly remarkable. We had three generations staying at the cabin and each one had fun and could spread out and relax with all the room in this cabin. The owners Becky and John were very nice and easy to work with. We have stayed at other places in Gatlinburg before but due to the size of our group this year we had to get a larger cabin and with all you get for the price of the rental I don't see how you could get a better deal. I have recommended this cabin to my friends and we will definitely be coming back.

Somewhat OK!!!

The main level and the upstairs rooms where really nice and kept very clean. Everything was good until we tried to turn on tvs and checked out the basement. There are not 6 tvs in the cabin, there are only 5, bc one of the rooms upstairs is missing a tv. The tv in the master bedroom did not have satellite connection, and a sign was placed inside the armoire saying the television was temporarily unavailable.

Downstairs in the basement, the carpet was old and had an odor to it. Both of the couches were torn behind the stationary pillows, with one of the couches having electrical tape to keep in place and the other one having the stuffing coming out. The pool table was old and missing pool balls. The 4th bedroom's tv, in the basement, did not have any satellite connection. There was an outlet that did not have an outlet cover, which is very dangerous since there was a 2 yr old with us.

If you can deal with these issues, this will be a great place to stay. The owners are really nice and very prompt with their response. The cabin is in a great location, close to both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Needless to say, we will not be back.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the responsive comment. I gladly took your advice and installed new flat screen T.V.'s along with purchasing new leather couches , and DVD players. T.V. & cable repair man was sent to cabin and repaired the storm damaged satellite components, from which the cabin was unfortunately struck by lightning.
The full sized commercial grade pool table was professionally refelted (this week)and enhanced with brand new pool balls and sticks. Hardwood floors were professionally cleaned (which makes up most of cabin), along with the game room's carpet & rugs. As requested this deep clean measure was to insure any odor or smell, especially from the 2 huge wood burning fireplaces.
We welcome any family to our home away from home!!

Excellant, beautiful, well appointed, and very comfortable place to stay. The Lodge is large enough to accomodate many people, but yet comfortable and cozy making you fell like you are the only people on the planet while there.

Very clean and comfortable.

Beautiful Views and lots of nice comfortable furniture on all the decks to enjoy the views from.

Spectacular cabin! Spectacular View! Spectacular Vacation!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I frequently come to Gatlinburg for a long weekend to relax and enjoy the scenery, We were delightfully pleased when we walked inside Papbear Mountain Lodge! The cabin is beautifully decorated, very clean and comfortable, and it had every amenity that you can imagine. The owners are so nice and it was obvious that they wanted to do whatever necessary to make our stay memorable. They recommended places to shop, eat and enjoy the outdoors. The beds were very clean with comfortable mattresses and pillows, so it made sleeping in a pleasure. The large deck and nice, clean hot tub were enjoyable after walking around downtown during the day. We decided that Papabear Mountain Lodge would be the first place we check out for lodging on our next trip to the Smokies. Try it--you won't be disappointed!

Best cabin experience of any Smoky Mountain rental in 10 years

  • 5 of 5
We loved this cabin, and the owners, Becky and John, were such a pleasure to interact with! The cabin has spectacular views, which we were so pleased to be able to access through the floor to ceiling glass windows that looked out to such beauty. The view alone is worth this remarkable home away from home. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the spaciousness of all the bedrooms. The games and pool table in the large den area on the ground floor were enjoyed by my family as well. This is a full lodge, and is on three beautiful levels, which means that all guests have privacy as needed, and yet family time in the large living room and kitchen. We absolutely loved it and are thrilled to call Becky and John our new Smoky Mountain friends. This is the place to stay for the experience of a lifetime. LaVay
