About the Owner

I am a Cuernavaca native, but my father was from Upstate New York and started building these homes with love to detail in the 40's. My mother was from Monterrey, Mex. I have lived my whole life in our Casa Grande which is part of our complex of 8 colonial-style houses on 1.5 acres. I studied in Switzerland and attended Shattuck-St. Mary's in Minnesota. I speak fluent Spanish, English and French. I have traveled around the world and have family in India, Australia and the US. I am married (30 years) and have 2 daughters. We are now going into our 3rd generation in our family business.

late Fall 2014

This is a follow-up to my one-word review of "wonderful," because I had some technical difficulties with this website's "feedback" process.

I love the Villas of Bellavista; in late 2012, I stayed for one week in one of the 1-bedroom bungalows at this 8-bungalow complex. In late 2013, I returned for a 5-week stay in Azteca, the 2-bedroom bungalow. That alone should tell you that I found the place to be excellent - cozy, comfy, authentic 1940s bungalows around a pool. The complex is surrounded by safety walls and gates that are always locked - I felt very safe here, even though, on this trip, I happened to be travelling solo. I also felt very safe in the general neighborhood and did not hesitate to walk around alone - even after dark. (But don't be foolish - stick to well-lit areas.)

The Villas are close to all sorts of conveniences (stores, markets, restaurants, etc). It's a safe and easy walk to a major avenue with public buses running every few minutes all day long. Downtown is an easy 10-15 minute bus ride (well, with the occasional grid-lock when you actually get within a few blocks of the Zocalo - best to hop off and walk the last 2-3 blocks...) There is always something going on downtown! The general location of the Villas in the Bellavista neighborhood of Cuernavaca is also a very convenient "jumping-off" place to visit other nearby areas - e.g., Tepotzlan, a wonderful village about 12-15 miles north-east of Cuernavaca.

The hosts here are the best - "children of the Sixties," my all-time favorite generation. Two very special people who are now joined by their daughter in running the business that the host's father started in the 1940s. This place is not a gaudy tourist trap, there are no nearby beaches filled with annoying tourists; other than some pretty decent modern appliances in the fully-equipped kitchens, there's nothing "modern" or "cookie-cutter" about it - just cozy, comfy, and down-to-earth; my home away from home in a very "real" section of Cuernavaca.

From the Owner

These very authentic Mexican homes were constructed with only the best construction materials of handpainted tiles, murals, wrought iron, chiseled stone, and solid cedar doors with attention to detail such as niches, arches and customized French doors opening to terraces and beautiful, tropical gardens. Just steps away from the historic avenue leading to the center of town, a visitor will find great Mexican restaurants, banks, churches, shops, coffee bars, galleries, parks, making our location the best for easy access to everything.
