Short Business Trip

Had everything we needed for two night stay. We always appreciate owners who welcome our dog and don't charge a high fee for her. The beach pass was especially appreciated given that we didn't have much time for pleasure activities.

everything you need...

The cottage was great for our short stay since we planned so many outdoor activities. We would have our fresh egg breakfast courtesy of the chickens out back and then head out for the day with a comfortable rest for the night. Although not walking distance for downtown, it was close enough and we didn't miss it.

Tiny but charming, everything you need, very peaceful

It looked just as the pictures show it. Lovely kitchen/LR combo, comfortable bed, private little porch, and very clean. We stayed during a COLD time, the only problem was that when we shut the bedroom door, we also shut out the heating source and it got quite chilly. It would be the same with the AC. We could have left the bedroom door open, of course, but then I felt too exposed, as the windows in the other room have only sheers, and anyone standing outside could see straight through to the bedroom. Replacing the sheers with solid ones would block out a lot of natural light, so maybe a folding screen for nighttime? That was the only thing. I would definitely stay again. It was VERY pleasant! The owner provided FRESH eggs from their chickens, and they tasted better than store bought eggs. :) Suitable for one or two people. A nice little gem, and affordable.

Owner's Response: Thank you Susan for your response and the suggestion about the screen. We didn't realize that it got cool in the bedroom with the door closed. Greg said he may lower the wall to the bedroom to leave it open for heat or we may just get a small rotating heater to use when it's cold. We use one in our house by the couch to keep my feet warm! Cozy, affordable get-away

Adorable little cottage-like accommodations, perfect for two people. Quiet neighborhood, convenient to dining, shopping and sight seeing. Very friendly hosts. This was our second stay and we would definitely rent again. Fell in love with the "girls" in the backyard!

Deceptive: 'Cottage' Stay and Owner

Deceptive: 'Cottage' Stay and Owner
  • 1 of 5
We reserved this property for Jan.05 to Feb.25, 2015. On arrival found no welcoming notes, or house instructional manual. The ‘cottage’ is a suburban converted garage with no water view, and 3.5 miles from downtown. To its right and rear is a cyclone-fenced yard with chickens, a rusting trailer, yard furniture, building materials, and an inaccessible garden area. Evening basketball is often played outside in the street.
Pictures should offer truthful views. The unclean small porch was crowded with a large garbage container, a recycle bin, a charcoal barbeque (not safe to use here), and a dirty bucket holding a broom, a filthy mop, and a broken roller broom - not a adorable outside retreat.
The interior was neat, but with sandy floors everywhere. The bedroom had a molding rotten laminate floor corner. A love seat in a kitchen did not a ‘living room’ make. “Everything you need in a kitchen”. No, missing were: cereal bowls, a teapot, eating utensils for more than 2 folks, a sharp knife, serving spoons, a working can opener, or functioning toaster. We bought these, as well as fresh light bulbs for over the sink, and functioning batteries for the TV remote. The advertised DVD player did not work and no DVD library existed. The WI-FI worked intermittently at quite low speeds. The owners’ attempted fix was unsuccessful. The loud in-kitchen heater/AC unit did not heat the entire cottage, particularly the bathroom, which had no fan to eliminate dampness or enough towel bars for a couple, Even with the full bed, there were no nightstands or lamps for both bedsides.
Due to family medical issues, we needed to depart Jan. 26, but with an agreement by the owner, “I released the cottage for today. I will send you a check for any days I re-rent it. At this late date there are certainly no guarantees.” We emailed, “We REALLY appreciate your offer to re-open for Jan. 28 - Feb 28 this cozy cottage to others and forward those monies which you receive from those guests to us.” When we discovered 3 separate bookings (totaling 21 days during those dates), we contacted the owner. She responded with false claims, and stated, “Should you make any attempt to contact me, my family or business in any way, decisive action will be taken immediately.”
We understood the owners’ cancelation policy at that time, but she made a promised agreement, which she has not honored. We lost portions of 5 weeks of agreed refunds, and lost respect for this deceptive owner. Beware
