City of Marathon Vacation Rental License PLR2014-00023. Directly on the Atlantic Ocean, this very comfortable, well-appointed, one-story home is surrounded by lush landscaping for privacy and seclusion. The view is toward the southwest, featuring vivid sunsets, and Sombrero Key Lighthouse in the distance, marking the coral reef. White-sand Sombrero Beach is just across the water to the west. You can kayak across in minutes, or sometimes even walk or swim across.
Our house is in the heart of Marathon, only two miles from the center of shopping, dining, and attractions, yet is quiet and secluded, since it's on a little island accessed by bridge. The house is spacious, light and airy, with ceiling fans in all rooms, tile floors throughout, and a rare coral-rock wall in the living room. The large windows and glass doors seem to bring the ocean and the tropical landscaping inside.
The first guest bedroom has a queen and a twin, and an ensuite bath with tub.
The second guest bedroom has two twins, with an adjacent bath.
The well stocked kitchen and the dining area look directly out on the ocean.
Our shallow-water boat basin is ideal for kayaks. Walk down the ladder and you can wade around, or swim, or launch kayaks. Please note: our boat basin cannot accommodate motorboats.
Sometimes dolphins swim into our view, and manatees come close to the seawall to dine on the seagrass early in the morning. The oceanside patio is pleasantly shaded by coconut palms and a native silver buttonwood tree. You can enjoy coffee in the morning, or a drink at sunset, and watch the sea life go by. The landscaping has been enhanced with about 80 species of native trees, shrubs, grasses, flowers, many of which are favorites of the birds and butterflies.
The house is very nice and well equipped - we felt very comfortable immediately after arrival. The location is very quiet - perfect for relaxing and good sleep. The patio in the backyard provided a beautiful look over the sea - we had wonderful sunset barbecues at this place.?Facilities for daily shopping are available in short driving distance (supermarkets and shops at the highway in < 1 mile distances).? For swimmers the access to the open water is not easy directly from the house but there is the beautiful Sombrero Beach within walking distance (10 minutes) - very nice and clean beach with all facilities and only a few visitors during our stay.? The kayaks which are provided for free gave us a lot of fun - we really enjoyed kayaking around Boot Key and in the channels visiting birds. ?The house owner Anne Wilson was very friendly and thoughtful - she provided us with so many details about the house and the local amenities/attractions and called to assure that everything was OK - a small repair of a leaking sink was immediately fixed on the same day by a plumbing company.? Overall we felt very comfortable with this place and stay and would absolutely recommend this house for vacation. When we come back to Florida Keys in future this house will be our first option.
