Our stay was phenomenal!! We loved South Haven and the house was the right size for our family. We are all in favor of heading back next year for a 7 day stay. Thank you for the perfect spot for relaxation. This vacation was the best I've had and we had so many simple pleasures. JH

Perfect and truly is South Haven Heaven!

Loved our stay here and was the perfect spot for our "Girls Weekend". The home was bright and cherry with more than enough room for our group of 11. The owners have thoughtfully provided everything you need for a peaceful and stress free retreat. The home was immaculate when we arrived. The patio and dining were wonderful gathering places for our group in addition to the cozy spaces with comfy furniture for reading. The location is perfect for walking to the beach to soak in the sun and observe the beautiful sunsets after a short walk to town to take in some "retail therapy". We are already planning our next stay and hope it will be available to rent again!

We rented in early August and had no issues with the cleaning crew or functionality of this home. The home is older but very comfortable. Plenty of room for all 10 of us. The 5 bedrooms worked out very well. Location to the beach is great, short walk. Very nice to have beach chairs and beach toys for the young children. Plenty of room for them to play in the back yard or explore the various rooms within the house. The patio and fire pit was a gathering place for our family cook outs, and late night talks. Kitchen was small but 6 of us could comfortably eat breakfeast at the same time. We ate most meals on the patio there are two tables there. There's no dishwasher that could be a good upgrade and we cooked many meals with no issues. A/C worked great it was very humid the week we were there. The owner was responsive, the dryer went out and was replaced promptly. We enjoyed our stay!

Poor Conditions -- Don't Waste Your Money

Poor Conditions -- Don't Waste Your Money

Our family immediately regretted renting this house from the time we drove up to the curb and saw a pretty beat-up cottage. It's the eyesore of a beautiful block of well-maintained homes. The house has not been updated in a very long time. It feels dirty and, in fact, we had to have it recleaned since it was clear that the job had been done very superficially (dirty swim diaper on the floor of a closet, dirty washcloths still in the tubs, etc.). The location was good but that was about it. The propane tank had not been refilled prior to our stay and only lasted one night. The railing to the front door is broken and unsteady, leading to multiple close calls. The area for dining is disgusting -- it's a converted garage that smells really gross. We ate outside as much as we could because no one wanted to spend time in that room. The basement where the laundry was is scary and very dirty. The owner was very defensive about all of our concerns and complaints. Yes, he tried to resolve some of them, but, in the end, we felt cheated that we had spent so much money to spend the week of our vacation in a dump.

Owner's Response: The group who left this negative review hid a dirty diaper in the laundry basket when they left.
They mention seeing "a pretty beat-up cottage" as they drove up. I'm not sure what they’re referring to. We recently put a new coat of paint on the house before this group arrived. If they are comparing it to a new house across the street, yes our home is older. On the day they arrived we installed a new dryer. Kitchen appliances less than 2 years old.
I'm not sure how to respond to it "feels dirty". We have been renting our home for 9 years & never had someone question the cleaning as this group did. We have used the same cleaning person & she has performed at least 85 cleanings of our home, so they may have taken my response as defensive considering I never had anyone question the cleaning as they did. We've had groups who have rented from us multiple times. This group said they found a dirty diaper & dirty washcloths. The first thing they mentioned after they said they found issues was that they most likely would be seeking “compensation”. To resolve their cleaning concerns I sent the cleaning person out again & she cleaned everything AGAIN, from bathrooms to changing bedding, to checking everything else in the house. The cleaning person reiterated to me, everything had been cleaned previously.
A direct quote from the renter was "House seems pretty good" when I asked them about the cleaning again. After check-out I am now seeing terms such as "gross, disgusting, dirty". Maybe they wanted compensation, not their cleaning concerns addressed. I also offered to extend their stay as long as an additional day, but they declined.
We do not refill grill propane tanks before each group because it typically lasts a full season. I am not aware of anyone who refills their tank weekly. When I offered to pay to have it refilled they declined & said they did not end up using it during the rest of the week. We have refilled it.
The railing at the front door was not “broken” before this group arrived. Leaning on it consistently could result in breaking it. "Multiple close calls" means the renters kept leaning on it. I had someone check it. He said one screw was loose but not broken. He secured it more this week.
I'm not sure what is "scary" about the basement. It is a typical Michigan style basement with low ceilings, but I'm not sure if that makes it scary.
It’s odd this group had so many issues when another group this month is requesting to rent again next year.
