House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Come to the PONDEROSA for ultimate relaxation. A beautiful two story log home at 4900 feet of elevation in the mountains of Maggie Valley, North Carolina, on Balsam Mountain. A serene private woodsy home on 1.25 acres with wonderful view. Be in remote privacy and feel the stress flow out of you.

Sit in the 2011 HOT TUB under covered deck sit and rock your cares away. Back deck with 6 rocking chairs and hot tub. No houses are visible from back deck, only woods , wonderful long range and valley views. Both bird feeder and hummingbird feeder on back porch. Also with second uncovered porch in front with 4 chairs. Can view few houses only from driveway area. There is a house close by uphill used as secondary home and not rented and house at end of driveway that is vacant. But this is last house on the road and no other houses will be viewed from back deck where view is. Ponderosa has recent extensive DVD movie selection 2 HDTV's, new yamaha soundbar in Living room; AIR HOCKEY and FOOSBALL available, take a 20 minutes hike to Smoky Mountains, roast marshmallows at the FIREPIT. Feel like you are camping at the firepit which is down a path. Or just plain relax. The chipmunks, hummingbirds, and Carolina wrens also like to visit the Ponderosa. A couple times of the year Edgar the elk stops by for a visit. That is what my guest named the elk. There are numerous hummingbirds during summer months.

Once at the Ponderosa, you are away from civilization with total peacefulness. The temperature at the Ponderosa averages a minimum 10 degrees cooler than the valley. Open the windows for fresh air, but if needed gas heat or AC available. Wireless internet is available on porches and throughout house for those that like to surf the internet and be with nature at same time. Hiking with many dirt roads, Hike to Heintooga Road in smoky mountains, hike to Masonic Monument in the smokies from cabin

Road is a hard surface dirt/gravel with steep access for 0.5 mile. Total length of road is 1.3 mile. Would recommend all wheel drive for inclement weather ie snow. ( Snow usually falls in Jan, Feb, March) I have used my Camry many times over the years. Front wheel drive is needed in summer months. The road does have guardrail on initial 0.3 mile of road.

Please if need more pictures, have a letter with pictures ready to send out, just ask for it. thanks! Also have video link I can send.

Please note : minimum age to rent condo is 25 years old. If 21 to 25 years old, I consider on individual basis but increase returnable security deposit to $225.

For family reunions on a mountain top , please ask about next door neighbor property available called Smoky Sunrise.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Just wanted to let you know, I have mailed you the key back to the Ponderosa. By the way, you got an absolute "glowing" report from everyone on the cabin, views, hot tub and your attention to little details, like your in-depth instructions, abundance of needed items (utensils, lighters, salt/pepper, flashlights, etc.) and the quality of the cabin itself; my husband was totally intrigued by the buck stove - he could not believe how well that worked. My sister and I just loved getting in the hot tub on cool nights. All of our college-aged kids really enjoyed the cabin, the tour of the Biltmore and most of all, I think, Chimney Rock Park.

We were in awe of the beauty surrounding us in the NC mountains, and now we are all talking about taking a rafting or a train trip for our next adventure there. If we do, I will definitely see if the Ponderosa is available.

Thanks for going "above and beyond" as it is so rare anymore.

What an amazing cabin!! My family had an absolutely wonderful stay! Mrs. Paula made the communication very easy and planning simple. She gave her suggestions and all information to make our stay pleasant and worry free. My husband found the drive up to the cabin a blast! Yes, to get the beautiful views the cabin offers, a steep drive up a mountain road is necessary. We thought it was an expierence you must have. :). You can't beat the views!! Most of my photos came from the back porch! The cabin was even child friendly! I have two little boys, 2 & 5 yrs old, and they had a great time! This beautiful cabin is a universal cabin for all kinds of stays. We plan on making another visit really soon!! Our family highly recommends the Ponderosa! :)

If you are looking for a peaceful place to get away for a few days then this is your place! It is very spacious for a cabin, has hundreds of DVD's and a hot tub. Also a beautiful view across the mountains with no other properties in site from the porch. We loved this cabin and hope we can go back again sometime! Thank you!

Amazing views

Ponderosa was a wonderful get-away cabin for my husband and myself and my brother and sister-in-law. We loved being able to hike from the cabin and also the views from the front porch are amazing. The hot tub is great and the porch is a wonderful place for a morning cup of coffee, watch the sun rise or for afternoon happy hour. Or just take a book out there and read or enjoy the views while watching the birds come to the feeder and the hummingbirds, also. Fully stocked house with everything you could need. Huge library of dvd/movies however we were so busy we never even turned on the tv. A great vacation spot....road could be a challenge in rain or winter however we had dry weather and had no problems getting our vehicles up there. The garage was a nice addition also. Grill (charcoal) worked great. We hope to return again.

Amazing Views

The Ponderosa was a wonderful rental for the 4 of us over Memorial Day weekend. So roomy and well equipped with anything and everything you could possibly need. The long dirt road up to the cabin could be a challenge during rain or snow however we had dry weather and it was not a problem. The hot tub is great and the view from the porch is amazing. Be sure to take a cup of coffee out there in the early morning or just sit and read or enjoy the view. Great place for Happy Hour also. The owner, Paula, was a pleasure to deal with. She felt like a friend by the end of our reservation process and quick return on our deposit. We will definitely rent the Ponderosa again. She has an amazing video/dvr library also, although we were so busy hiking (right from the cabin) that we never even turned on the TV or watched a movie. A real get-away.

Great Getaway Cabin-Awesome Views

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I and our Labrador Retriever had an outstanding time at Ponderosa. We found the cabin furnished with everything needed for a very comfortable stay. We 'hunkered in' for the full week, enjoying outstanding mid-September weather with cool, crisp evenings and very comfortable daytime temps in the 70's. Views are outstanding and this cabin is very private. Hot tub is excellent and the back porch is a great spot to read a book or just relax outdoors, taking in the views and sounds. Samantha (the Lab) and I hiked every day on a network of jeep trails that traverse the hills. We checked out the Smokey Mountain National Park and Masonic monument (about 4-5 mile trek). On the cooler nights we made a fire in the wood stove located in the living room. We never turned on the TV but as other reviewers have mentioned there's a huge library of DVD's and the technology is current. Owners were highly communicative and gracious. Security deposit was returned within a couple of days. We definitely plan to visit Ponderosa again.

Very nice!

  • 5 of 5
The cabin was as advertised, plenty of room and a great view from the rear deck where hot tub is. I would recommend having good front tires to make it up the long steep gravel road but the ride is worth the little bit of trouble. The owners were very easy to deal with and I would recommend this place if you don't mind the road to get there.
