Once at the Ponderosa, you are away from civilization with total peacefulness. The temperature at the Ponderosa averages a minimum 10 degrees cooler than the valley. Open the windows for fresh air, but if needed gas heat or AC available. Wireless internet is available on porches and throughout house for those that like to surf the internet and be with nature at same time. Hiking with many dirt roads, Hike to Heintooga Road in smoky mountains, hike to Masonic Monument in the smokies from cabin
Road is a hard surface dirt/gravel with steep access for 0.5 mile. Total length of road is 1.3 mile. Would recommend all wheel drive for inclement weather ie snow. ( Snow usually falls in Jan, Feb, March) I have used my Camry many times over the years. Front wheel drive is needed in summer months. The road does have guardrail on initial 0.3 mile of road.

Just wanted to let you know, I have mailed you the key back to the Ponderosa. By the way, you got an absolute "glowing" report from everyone on the cabin, views, hot tub and your attention to little details, like your in-depth instructions, abundance of needed items (utensils, lighters, salt/pepper, flashlights, etc.) and the quality of the cabin itself; my husband was totally intrigued by the buck stove - he could not believe how well that worked. My sister and I just loved getting in the hot tub on cool nights. All of our college-aged kids really enjoyed the cabin, the tour of the Biltmore and most of all, I think, Chimney Rock Park.
We were in awe of the beauty surrounding us in the NC mountains, and now we are all talking about taking a rafting or a train trip for our next adventure there. If we do, I will definitely see if the Ponderosa is available.
Thanks for going "above and beyond" as it is so rare anymore.
