In the bedrooms you'll find lots of closet space with electric blankets and down duvets for those colder nights. The kitchen is fully equipped lots of work space as well as a ceiling fan for those warmer afternoons while cooking. Mexican brick and flagstone floors thruout the downstairs, with views of the city rooftops and mountains from the outside corridor.

The kitchen/dining area has an open air feel, the with large windows and doors viewing the garden,The dining room table seats 7-8 comfortably. The house is fully decorated with local crafts and fabrics, library of books, dvds, mini-component system, TV, and lots of other things to make you feel very much at home while in San Cristobal...Just about everything you could need during your stay is there.

There is full wifi internet throughout the house ...Local land line for calls in town but please, no long distance...I have a magic jack plus phone line with a local Los Angeles phone number making calls to and from the US and Canada free of charges (think Vonage) New Flat screen TV with apple tv, loads of dvd's and sound system connected. Also iPod connector in walkway with speakers and connection. The kitchen has just been renovated with new appliances and stocked for any cooks needs. Electric blankets available and down comforters for those chilly nights. There's always lots of hot water with a solar hot water system and back-up on demand hot water heater. Aquazon water filtration system in the kitchen making water from the unit free of bacteria and fine for drinking and cooking.

About the Owner

I fell in love with San Cristobal many years ago and finally decided that this was the place I wanted to move to and spend my years. I currently work in Los Angeles and love my work, which is the only reason I'm not down there now. So I try and split my time in both places and make my home available for guests when I'm not there.

Guestbook comments from the manager

5 of 5 starsReviewed March 6, 2015

Everything I'd like to say has been said in previous reviews. Location is terrific: all major attractions within walking distance, ditto for very good restaurants. Street is quiet; garden, with an abundance of flowering plants, humming birds, even more so. As with many San Cris houses, the colonial house front is unassuming, making the delightful interior even more beguiling. We loved the variety of local crafts, obviously lovingly collected over the years - we noticed something new everyday (we were there for three weeks). The kitchen is a dream to work in, extremely well stocked, and since there is an enormous local market nearby, we cooked quite a bit. Evenings were fairly cold when we were there - we made good use of the living room chimenea, which worked flawlessly.

Teresa, the property manager, addressed every question that we had immediately and with great charm - we can't thank her enough. Our local birding guide, Alberto, was a real find, taking us to places that we would never have found on our own.

Stuck in Houston, waiting for a rescheduled flight home, but still dreaming of the jasmine cascading down the garden wall. An outstanding value.

Lovely San Cristobal de las Casa

  • 5 of 5
This house is wonderfully beautiful with San Cristobal charm! The house is perfectly appointed, tastefully decorated, and has every amenity. The beds are comfortable, showers provide plenty of hot water - and if one likes to cook, the kitchen has everything to make great meals. The location is also perfect. The street is relatively quiet and within walking distance to churches, markets, shops, and restaurants. The owner and the wonderful people in San Cristobal are so helpful. I truly enjoyed my San Cristobal experience because of them and the lovely house. Gracias!!!

Happy Early Spring Abode in San Cristobal

  • 5 of 5
We had a great stay. The house is both spectacular and comfortable. Sitting on the porch in the mornings-and afternoons and evenings--was great, a different experience than just staying in a hotel.

Sherry thought of everything in terms of making it easy to settle in-Internet Wi-FI no problem to set up at all, all the cooking utensils we needed, good advice in the "house book" on places around town.

Beautiful Home, Great Location and Value

  • 5 of 5
My partner and I had a great vacation in San Cristobal made better by our choice to stay at Sherry's beautiful home. Located close to the center of San Cristobal and within walking distance of many great restaurants and points of interest, the home was a great choice for us. The gardens are completely walled providing a relaxing and beautiful place to escape from the busy city outside. Everything you need is included with your rental, a fully stocked kitchen, comfortable living room with TV and DVD player. And our favorite thing to do was to sit on the patio looking over the gardens enjoying drinks, reading our books or just relaxing. We enjoyed watching the hummingbirds and frequently noticed a little black cat spying on us from the top of the garden wall.

Our stay was really great, and Sherry and her friends in San Cristobal were friendly and helpful. I strongly recommend Sherry's casa and will stay again in the future.

Oasis in San Cristobal

  • 5 of 5
We were (and still are) working full time on a documentary on the indigenous Maya while were in San Cristobal, a very exciting but strenuous undertaking. When we would return after days in the indigenous communities tired and exhausted from the long ride, Sherry's house, her pride and joy, would seem like an oasis to us. Indeed, it was: big, quiet, sunny with a wonderful garden buzzing with hummingbirds, lots hot water and miraculously, the only bathtub we saw while living in SCC.

...and for all the peace and quiet, it could not be more central. A block away is everyone's favorite breakfast spot, the Casa de Pan. Two blocks away and you reach the Real de Guadelupe in one direction and the Cathedral in the other. A bit further and you are at the Na Bolom Museum or the massive, colorful, indoor/outdoor Market, our favorite place to food shop.

In short, a wonderful retreat made better by the owner's thought and concern for your well being. The house exudes Sherry's warmth and generosity and she was always reachable when needed.

Review San Cristobal

  • 5 of 5
Having been to San Cristobal, I expected to see something basic and rustic. Imagine my surprise to see this beautiful casa equipted with everything we needed for our stay. I could have stayed on the garden terrace with a good book and a mojito all week among the flowers, hummingbirds and butterflies.
The property was clean and we received assistance with transportation from the Tuxtla Airport and a hotel was reserved for us the first night. I would recommend this hotel even though I'd rather keep it a secret only for myself.
We enjoyed our visits to San Juan Chamula, Palenque, Agua Azul, Misol Ha, Oventik and Sumadero Canyon. I would recommend eating chateaubriand at Los Maguays and Tierra al Dente for Mexican. Pass on La Paloma. Tours from Alex and Raul leave at 9:30 AM from the cross in front of the Cathedral. Ask for Caesar...he is the best!

Car: not necessary

The Casa is set up as a home away from home, both for myself and the enjoyment of my guests. We're located in the historic district of town on Calle Dr. Navarro in the Barrio El Cerrillo ,2 blocks from the church of Santo Domingo and a 5 minute walk to the zocalo and main mercado. I was off this site for awhile during my construction so there is time-lapse for reviews here, more recent reviews listed on other sites!:-)
