House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

This charming, comfortable Victorian has been home to two former Lighthouse Keepers. The Victorian is located on the road to West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and State Park. The house is only 1/4 mile from the Sand Bar Wildlife management area and is backed by a secluded sandy beach. The house retains many of it's original Victorian features -- tin ceilings, stained glass windows, beautiful wood work, and brass hardware. The house has a living room fully equipped with Flat Screen LCD TV/VCR/DVD with cable, books by Maine authors, and plenty of board games to keep the family entertained. If you prefer a quiet evening spent in period style, you can slip into the adjoining parlor and relax on the mahogany daybed in front of the Victorian fireplace and read or cuddle by the light of antique lamps. The kitchen has been updated and offers all modern conveniences including dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker, French Door Fridge, and Cuisinart cookware and appliances. Yet the old charm has been preserved in the original wood floor, tin ceiling, cupboards and antique furnishings. The first floor also has a porch/sunroom with day bed and full bath. Upstairs, two large bedrooms provide a queen and full size bed. Queen bedroom has a flat screen LCD TV with DVD and cable. The spacious full bath has been remodeled to accommodate a washer & dryer and new fixtures with vintage styling. The outdoor patio area has a both a gas and charcoal grill, picnic table, and lounge chairs. A walking path down to the water's edge provides easy access to the beach and the Sand Bar. The stairs onto the beach have bench seats that provide a great perch from which to take in the 180 degree water views! Bed & Bath Linen Provided. Free Long Distance Phone Service. Cable TV. High Speed Wireless Internet.

The Lubec Victorian is a 'green certified lodging' and named as an Environmental Leader by the State of Maine. All natural green cleaning products, energy star appliances, low energy lighting and low water use fixtures. Help preserve the incredible natural resources of Lubec and the State of Maine by staying in a rental property certified as an Environmental Leader. Turn over day is Saturday.

An added plus: The Victorian now has a full house back-up power system.

Cook, watch TV, bathe, use your computer, do laundry, keep on going whenever the power goes out. No more worries, even if the power is out for hours (which does not happen often, thank goodness). The generator will automatically kick on whenever the power goes out. You need do nothing except continue to relax and enjoy your vacation. Your comfort and safety are top priority at The Victorian.

Amazing week 7 days!

  • 5 of 5
The Victorian and little town of Lubec was exactly as described by Home Away and the reviews. The cottage is delightful and decorated so comfortably to period charm. Me and four ladies flew to Bangor and rented a car for our trip to Lubec. The drive from the airport to Lubec was beautiful. Jodi suggested stopping in Muchias for groceries and we traveled the coastal route to the cottage. It was just breath taking, setting he mood for the entire week. The cottage was very clean and well maintained - looks just like the pictures. We cooked our breakfast at the cottage and ate late lunch out. The Inn at the Warf was our favorite place to eat, eating there several times and they also catered a dinner whale watching cruise for us for my birthday. What a treat, to eat my favorite seafood with friends and see whales and a beautiful sunset at he same time. We hiked the trails at Quoddy Head, got beautiful pictures of sunrise at West Quoddy Head Light house and enjoyed shopping at the little gift shop in route to light house. We enjoyed chocolates and shopping at Monica's Chocolates - visiting with the owner is a treat within itself. One day we drove the short drive to Roosevelt Campobello International Park - Had 'Tea with Eleanor' and enjoyed listening to interesting stories of her life. We hiked to the East Quoddy Light House while we were on the Island. We drove to Bar Harbor a couple of days. It is about 1.5 - 2 mile drive but well worth it. Bar Harbor is a much more 'touristy' city but beautiful. Do not miss Acadia National Park - you can spend more than one day in the park. The views from Cadillac Mountain are post card material photo opportunities. I just can't describe the beauty - you just have to absorb it in you mind, smell, taste & feel. We are just so thankful that we were able to enjoy some of God's greatest country. I will return to Lubec , ME and hopefully be able to book the Victorian.

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I have been to Lubec many times. This was the cleanest house we have ever rented. The kitchen is very well equipped. The bed was comfortable. The house is filled with many interesting things to look at. Jody has an amazing collection of sea glass displayed around the house. The location is great. The beach is a short stroll down a boardwalk. We enjoyed our week at this house and would highly recommend it anyone looking for a peaceful and comfortable vacation. Our favorite restaurants are Uncle Kippy's and Family Fisheries (Campobello Island). I attended a yoga class at The Inn at the Wharf. We love Lubec and plan to return again next year. Jody is easy to contact and responds quickly to your needs.

Beach Glass Cottage is a delight

  • 5 of 5
Dear Jody,

We had an absolutely wonderful stay this week. The cottage was thoroughly accommodating, including the fully loaded kitchen, which we made use of for many memorable sea food meals. The view of the water and the scenery in the bay was totally mesmerizing. Thanks so much for sharing your house with us! We hope to return!

Wonderful week in Lubec

  • 5 of 5
We just spent the most wonderful week long vacation in Lubec. And this house was perfect for our stay. You will not want for a thing. It's all there. The kitchen is so well equipped and the house is kept in perfect condition. So clean and comfortable. My compliments to the cleaning staff. We even had two lobster bakes and every thing you need is there.
We started our first day with an early morning sunrise on the beach (4:40 AM) Are you kidding me?! But it was so well worth it. There is a lovely walk to the beach along a flowery path. We made this trip many times to catch the tides and also to make a fire ring at night. The kids loved collecting sea glass. We just loved the peacefulness of sitting or walking along the shoreline. We made many trips to Campobella. You must see the FDR summer home and take advantage of the many hikes in this very unspoiled park. But watch the tides because you can only hike to the East Quoddy light house at low tide. One of the best hikes, however is just minutes away at the West Quoddy lighthouse. The views are spectacular. Whether you want to go out for dinner or stay home and do some grilling it's all there for you at this exceptional house in Lubec Maine.

Lovely restored Victorian

  • 4 of 5
Nicely restored Victorian. Very clean and with all the amenities one could want!
Comfortable beds, a well appointed kitchen and a relaxing sitting room with a working fireplace.
It was nice to take a short stroll to the beach in the morning or evening. Our dog loved chasing the seagulls and fetching the ball on the beach.
Convenient to miles of hiking trails, several light houses and Campobello in Canada. Border crossing was a breeze since we had our passports.
House sits close to a road but noise was minimal. However keep this in mind, if you have pets or small children.
We had a very relaxing, laid back enjoyable time!

charming and restful

  • 5 of 5
"We are a bit prejudiced because we own a place in Lubec, but elected to rent the Victorian on this trip. It was wonderful--everything you could imagine to make you feel at home--quite possibly even better beds! The beach there is wonderful, with a great view to Grand Manan and beyond. It is convenient to Campobello Island (NB), the town of Lubec, West Quoddy Head light, hiking trails, etc. Jody was great in working with us on our schedule (which seemed to change every day) and has the most amazing beach glass collection! It was mid-October, so we spoiled ourselves--just three of us. There is plenty of room there, though, for a larger family or two to be comfortable without feeling crowded. The access to a landline in the land of limited cell phone service was a major convenience. If you have a rainy day, terrific books!"

The Down East area showcases nature at her finest. Whales, porpoises, eagles, osprey, moose and bear inhabit the region. During the migration season, whales pass close enough to be observed from

shore! Beach roses, wild iris, and beach peas line the pristine

shoreline. In Lubec you will find sandy beaches (a rarity this far

Down East), bold coastal cliffs, coastal rain forest, wildflower

meadows, and peat bogs. The Lubec area is host to three state parks,

a national wildlife refuge, and several nature preserves, all of

which offer a variety of well maintained hiking trails. Local whale,

wildlife, and puffin tours offer the chance to observe nature up

close from the water as do the local kayak and canoe rental

facilities and many public boat ramps. The area is rich in history --

the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War was fought in nearby

Machiasport. Maine's own 'Cannery Row' lined the waterfronts of

Lubec and Eastport with sardine canning factories and herring smoke

houses. You'll find it all here -- rich history, spectacular

scenery, abundant wildlife, and friendly people. You won't find

pollution, crowds, or traffic jams.
