Updated: Sep 9, 2014
House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

This charming, comfortable Victorian has been home to two former Lighthouse Keepers. The Victorian is located on the road to West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and State Park. The house is only 1/4 mile from the Sand Bar Wildlife management area and is backed by a secluded sandy beach. The house retains many of it's original Victorian features -- tin ceilings, stained glass windows, beautiful wood work, and brass hardware. The house has a living room fully equipped with Flat Screen LCD TV/VCR/DVD with cable, books by Maine authors, and plenty of board games to keep the family entertained. If you prefer a quiet evening spent in period style, you can slip into the adjoining parlor and relax on the mahogany daybed in front of the Victorian fireplace and read or cuddle by the light of antique lamps. The kitchen has been updated and offers all modern conveniences including dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker, French Door Fridge, and Cuisinart cookware and appliances. Yet the old charm has been preserved in the original wood floor, tin ceiling, cupboards and antique furnishings. The first floor also has a porch/sunroom with day bed and full bath. Upstairs, two large bedrooms provide a queen and full size bed. Queen bedroom has a flat screen LCD TV with DVD and cable. The spacious full bath has been remodeled to accommodate a washer & dryer and new fixtures with vintage styling. The outdoor patio area has a both a gas and charcoal grill, picnic table, and lounge chairs. A walking path down to the water's edge provides easy access to the beach and the Sand Bar. The stairs onto the beach have bench seats that provide a great perch from which to take in the 180 degree water views! Bed & Bath Linen Provided. Free Long Distance Phone Service. Cable TV. High Speed Wireless Internet.

The Lubec Victorian is a "green certified lodging" and named as an Environmental Leader by the State of Maine. All natural green cleaning products, energy star appliances, low energy lighting and low water use fixtures. Help preserve the incredible natural resources of Lubec and the State of Maine by staying in a rental property certified as an Environmental Leader. Turn over day is Saturday.

An added plus: The Victorian now has a full house back-up power system.

Cook, watch TV, bathe, use your computer, do laundry, keep on going whenever the power goes out. No more worries, even if the power is out for hours (which does not happen often, thank goodness). The generator will automatically kick on whenever the power goes out. You need do nothing except continue to relax and enjoy your vacation. Your comfort and safety are top priority at The Victorian.

Lovely restored Victorian

  • 4 of 5
Nicely restored Victorian. Very clean and with all the amenities one could want!
Comfortable beds, a well appointed kitchen and a relaxing sitting room with a working fireplace.
It was nice to take a short stroll to the beach in the morning or evening. Our dog loved chasing the seagulls and fetching the ball on the beach.
Convenient to miles of hiking trails, several light houses and Campobello in Canada. Border crossing was a breeze since we had our passports.
House sits close to a road but noise was minimal. However keep this in mind, if you have pets or small children.
We had a very relaxing, laid back enjoyable time!

charming and restful

"We are a bit prejudiced because we own a place in Lubec, but elected to rent the Victorian on this trip. It was wonderful--everything you could imagine to make you feel at home--quite possibly even better beds! The beach there is wonderful, with a great view to Grand Manan and beyond. It is convenient to Campobello Island (NB), the town of Lubec, West Quoddy Head light, hiking trails, etc. Jody was great in working with us on our schedule (which seemed to change every day) and has the most amazing beach glass collection! It was mid-October, so we spoiled ourselves--just three of us. There is plenty of room there, though, for a larger family or two to be comfortable without feeling crowded. The access to a landline in the land of limited cell phone service was a major convenience. If you have a rainy day, terrific books!"

Outstanding!!!!

Amazing Victorian house....perfectly clean...perfectly located with private beach access right out your front door!! All the bedding is first class with memory toppers and really nice sheets and lots of pillows. The kitchen is very well equipped, complete with a set of top notch Cuisinart stainless steel cookware. The stove and refrigerator are on par with the cookware. The large flat screen TV in the living room and the small flat screen TV in the master bedroom are nice to enjoy when called upon. The house is beautiful, with an amazing staircase leading you to the upstairs where you'll find the master and one other bedroom, and the really nicely equipped bathroom complete with washer/dryer of large size. Its really convenient to be able to do your laundry at the house. If you need hot water in the AM to loosen up, no worries, because the water here is as hot as you'd want it. Lovely!!
We love walking out the front door, down the path, past the beautiful wild rose bushes to the beach. If you are looking for a wonderful house to relax in with access to stellar beaches providing plentiful opportunities for miles of beach walking, this is the place to be.

Location

Activity and Interests

The Down East area showcases nature at her finest. Whales, porpoises,

eagles, osprey, moose and bear inhabit the region. During the

migration season, whales pass close enough to be observed from

shore! Beach roses, wild iris, and beach peas line the pristine

shoreline. In Lubec you will find sandy beaches (a rarity this far

Down East), bold coastal cliffs, coastal rain forest, wildflower

meadows, and peat bogs. The Lubec area is host to three state parks,

a national wildlife refuge, and several nature preserves, all of

which offer a variety of well maintained hiking trails. Local whale,

wildlife, and puffin tours offer the chance to observe nature up

close from the water as do the local kayak and canoe rental

facilities and many public boat ramps. The area is rich in history --

the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War was fought in nearby

Machiasport. Maine's own "Cannery Row" lined the waterfronts of

Lubec and Eastport with sardine canning factories and herring smoke

houses. You'll find it all here -- rich history, spectacular

scenery, abundant wildlife, and friendly people. You won't find

pollution, crowds, or traffic jams.
