House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 7 Sleeps

(August 2014) The summer is soon coming to an end after a very busy season at The Chalet. But low off-season rates are coming soon! New at The Chalet: No need to get a key from a lock box anymore. As a convenience for our guests, there is now a keyless deadbolt on the front door. Just punch in the code, and step inside!

Comment from recent guest (Aug. 2014): One of my friends, a gourmet chef, commented that the kitchen had everything she needed to make us a perfect meal. She was very impressed, as she had rented VRBO homes in other parts of the country where the kitchens are not nearly so well equipped. You are the best VRBO owners I've ever worked with.

Most reservations at The Chalet are from returning guests. We hope you will become one of them!

============================================

Nestled among the pines with views of magnificent Mount Shasta, this charming, modern chalet lets you relax and reflect on the serenity of the area while enjoying the comforts of home. Romantic luxury for TWO... Yet spacious enough to sleep a large family. The unique combination of outstanding location, exceptional layout, and ownerinvolvement makes The Chalet the perfect place for a mountainget-a-away. ( But if you MUST check e-mail, hi-speed cable internet access is provided.)

We, Jack and Terri, live in the Bay Area but go to Mount Shasta so often that we decided to buy the Chalet in 1999 for our own use and for guests. The Chalet is located three and a half miles from central Mount Shasta City, just north of the citylimits in a quiet residential neighborhood, recessed from the street. There is plenty of distance (and trees!) between the neighbors. It is very peaceful and private. There is a wonderful view of the mountain from the deck, the dining area, and the upstairs loft area. You will find an outdoor table (with chairs and umbrella) on the deck during the warm weather months as well as an outdoor barbecue grill. And sledsin winter!

The large upstairs bedroom suite has a queen bed as well as a futon that opens up to sleep two. (Note: The futon would be comfortable for 2 kids or 1 adult/1 kid but not 2 adults.) There is also a queen bed in the downstairs bedroom. All of the beds are quite comfortable. Additionally there is a reclining sofa in the living room where it is easy to fall asleep unintentionally (in front of wood burning stove) where 1-2 people could sleep. There are two full baths, one downstairs (walk-in shower) and one in the master bedroom suite (bathtub/shower combination). There is a dishwasher, a well-stocked kitchen (with toaster oven, blender, microwave, coffee maker) and a separate laundry room with washer and dryer.

All inquiries and reservations are handled directly by the owners (us!), not a property manager. Our goal is to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We ENCOURAGE early arrivals and late departures whenever the guest schedule allows for it. We are proud of our growing number of repeat guests, and we hope you

enjoy The Chalet as much as we do. We are also dog-lovers, so you can

bring ALL members of the family! The Chalet at Mount Shasta has an

official Vacation Rental Permit granted by Siskiyou County.

Here are some comments from some guests:

The Chalet is almost like being at home in its comfort but incomparable to home in that its surroundings are such a treat. We so enjoyed staying here – so comfortable, a beautifully equipped kitchen, every need anticipated. Thank You! July 2014

We were here for 8 days at a conference and for some vacation time. Opening the door and walking in felt like coming home; we even had flowers to greet us! All the little touches are there including toothpicks, sandwich baggies, some cooking spices, books and games, nightlights, cable TV, washer & dryer (although some of the utensils are getting worn). You can zip in and out to get to Mt. Shasta City and any location, close to the freeway. The reservation process was easy, and Jack kept in touch, providing lots of information about the Chalet, things to do in the area, restaurants and shopping. This a beautiful place to hike and explore: the Caverns, Castle Crags, city parks. We needed more time! And staying at the Chalet was the icing on the cake. June 2014

My Dad and I decided to come up or a few days while I was in town from New York. We’ve been coming to Shasta at least twice a year since I was 17 (about 15 years now) and this was one of the nicest places to stay. The Chalet was clean, warm and inviting. The décor is lovely and the rooms are made up so nicely too. Amd what can I say about the owners, Jack & Terri were both really great people and so helpful with setting us up here and making the reservation process so easy, even when doing it 3000 miles away. We shall definitely return. P.S. Roxie (the pup) said I forgot to mention the yummy dog treats and awesome backyard. She loved it here too. March 2014

My family of four plus extended family of two stayed at the Chalet for 4 days after Christm

Great Chalet

  • 5 of 5
Great place to stay! The place is as advertised, and had everything a renter could ask for. Jack was great to work with, and was very helpful in sending us information on the best hikes in the area, and places to eat. Highly recommend this place for a visit to the Mt Shasta area.

Owner's Response: The Chalet IS a great place to stay, but it is much more than that. For me (Jack, owner) managing The Chalet is a also a hobby, and I thoroughly enjoy answering guest questions about the area, providing information on hikes, lakes, restaurants etc.. We want The Chalet to be just one part of your fantastic Mt. Shasta experience.

We really enjoyed the Chalet

  • 5 of 5
We're very familiar with the Mt. Shasta area and have stayed in a number of vacation rentals there. The Chalet met all our expectations--clean, comfortable, a well-stocked kitchen, and very attentive owners. Its location outside town is quite, and it's an easy drive or pleasant bike ride into town. For guests with pets (dogs, especially), this is a great place to stay.

Owner's Response: The Chalet is extremely pet-friendly with a fenced in back yard, dog treats, and food/water bowls (in case you forgot yours)! Yes, we are dog lovers with 2 of our own. By the way, a very nice place for humans too!

Wonderful Little Chalet

  • 5 of 5
This is a wonderful little chalet. We stayed here with our dog and enjoyed the stay very much. The owners were more that gracious and accommodating. We did have some car problems and the owners and the cleaning person went way out of their way to help us in every way. Even without a car for over a week we found things to do and to explore and the stay could not have been more pleasant.

Owner's Response: We pride ourselves not only on providing wonderful accommodations but also on doing whatever we can to enhance out guests’ Mt. Shasta experience. This guest was supposed to stay for 6 nights but had terrible car trouble on the second day. It’s a complicated story but they ended up without a car for their entire stay so we and our local property manager did whatever we could to make their carless vacation as enjoyable as possible under the circumstances. The car was still not ready when their departure date arrived. We allowed them to stay 2 additional nights at no charge until the next guests arrived.

Very relaxing!

  • 5 of 5
My family of four plus extended family of two stayed at the Chalet for 4 days after Christmas. The Chalet was very relaxing with plenty of space for all 6 of us plus 2 dogs. The wood stove made for a cozy setting despite the fact the snow never fell. We brought our quads and had fun exploring the surround the back hills and took a beautiful hike up to Castle Lake.
The Chalet was well equipped for all our cooking needs. Our dogs were so pampered especially with the dog treats! and great fenced yard! Also the interior was spotless!! Bravo to your cleaning lady...she does a great job! We will definitely be back again!
Thanks Again

Owner's Response: Yes, The Chalet is very pet-friendly. We travel everywhere with our 2 dogs so we know how important this is. (Well, we did leave our dogs home when we drove to Yellowstone and to Death Valley, not pet-friendly places.) But of course, our human guests are pampered too!

Beautiful getaway!

  • 5 of 5
We could not have been more pleased with our stay at The Chalet.

This was our first time up at Mount Shasta, and we researched several places to stay before we found The Chalet's listing. It seemed perfect - spacious, close enough to the town and hiking that it would be easy to get around, but secluded enough for some real privacy. It's also pet friendly, a hugely important thing for obsessive dog owners such as ourselves.

The Chalet has many great things going for it. As mentioned earlier, it's spacious and private. It is very easy to get to from I-5, and close to downtown (we recommend Berryvale Natural Foods Grocery for lots of organic selections), and hikes nearby. It has a washer and dryer, wi-fi (with a hilarious note from the owners about not using the internet too much!), a full kitchen, and the thing that we loved the most, a wood-burning stove. The house has central heating, but you won't need it. The stove works magically well, enough that we wish we had one of our own. (Note: we stayed in November). The sofa in the living room is a recliner, so we spent most evenings relaxing in front of the stove with some hot tea or hot chocolate. So cozy! Also, the tap is fresh and tasty, so bring your empty bottles to fill up.

If you own a pet, the house is great for them - a nice, fenced in backyard to run around in, and a lovely neighborhood to go for a walk. There was even a jar full of doggie treats. The guest books all had rave reviews, and it's not hard to see why. We took our dog to McCloud River Falls and Crystal Lake/Heart Lake for dog friendly hikes (must be on leash).

Jack was very responsive to emails, and he has a lot of useful information (including directions for go-to spots) for your arrival and stay. There is even a binder full of pamphlets and info on trails around the area which was very helpful. We would highly recommend this place, and would love to come back in the spring or summer!

Owner's Response: It makes us feel so good to receive comments like this and to know how much our guests (including those with 4 legs!) enjoy The Chalet. We try very hard to make The Chalet an integral part of our guests' Mt. Shasta experience and are heartened by our guest comments and many returning guests.

Absolutely Perfect !

  • 5 of 5
I've been coming to Mt. Shasta-Lake Siskiyou for many years now. After giving up my camper, I had begun to despair of ever finding a rental that would accept my dog & that was also a lovely place to stay -- until I found you & the Chalet this summer. Now I know I never will stay anywhere else & look forward to returning next summer. You have thought of everything to make those who rent the Chalet feel like honored guests in your home. Thanks for having me & my dog.

Owner's Response: The writer of this review booked 2 weeks the following summer the day after she returned from her first stay at The Chalet. It makes us feel so good when we hear how comfortable our guests are at The Chalet, and we are appreciative of the many ‘regular’ guests who return to The Chalet year after year.

Location

Activity and Interests

Mt. Shasta is a 4-season (uncrowded) recreational

paradise....fantastic hiking, lakes, fishing, winter sports.

Breath-taking scenery. Despite its small size and rural location, the

area also has some excellent restaurants.
