Apartment, 1 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 2 Sleeps

LOCATION, location, location. This location can't be beat! We are in "el centro." It is a short 5-6 minute level walk to the "jardin," the absolute middle of town.

We have two very beautiful private suites (actually they are studio apartments) that overlook a flower-filled garden. Both suites have incredible bathrooms made of Mexican tile.

Suite #1 has a King bed, or it can be changed to accommodate 2 twin

beds. This suite has a small fridge, a microwave and 2 burners for

light cooking. Electric coffee pot. Purified water in the pipes! Luxurious bathroom with blue and white Mexican tiles.

Wirelss internet. Mexican cable TV. DVD with large collection of DVDs. Spacious and filled with light. Two full walls of glass windows overlook a flower-filled garden. People describe the garden as "Giverny comes to Mexico."

In the vacation rentals site that you are now on, there is no option for "suite." Thus I choose "apartment." The two suites could be used as apartments but a better description is "suite."

Suite #2 has a Queen bed. Small kitchenette area with a microwave, bar-size fridge, two burners, electric coffee maker, purified water. Wireless internet. Small TV with Mexican cable and a DVD player with a large library of DVDs.

Suite #2 also overlooks the flower-filed garden. Lovely bathroom with spacious shower of green and white Mexican tiles.

High quality linens and down comforters.

Both Suite #1 and Suite #2 have a small sofa and a comfortable chair as well as a small dining table for light meals and sipping coffee. Excellent

reading lamps by bed. Both suites have their own outdoor patios for sipping morning coffee or a glass of wine at sunset. Comfortable lounge chairs for outdoor reading and relaxing.

Location! We are a 20 second walk to the main mercado where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables and flowers. And at 8:30 in the morning, freshly baked bread.

A minute away is the beginning of the artisans market where Mexicans sell their jewelry, crafts, native clothes, etc.

We are within an 8 minute walk to 90% of the restaurants that one would frequent.

A Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5
My friend and I decided to head to SMA for a birthday getaway. I was total newbie to Mexico and SMA; I just came upon the House of Flowers on the internet - a very happy accident. The suites, as other reviewers have said, are lovely with all the amenities and you are truly surrounded by flowers. We immediately started a new tradition - coffee and breakfast in the garden in the morning and wine and cheese in the garden at night! We became regulars at the market which is right next store and everything we wanted to see was within a 15 minute walk. Caren and I became e-mail buddies before we arrived. She was away in Europe when we were there but she kept in touch with us via e-mail throughout our stay. She is so generous with ideas, resources, and suggestions which led us to a cooking class with Gabby Greene, a salsa class with Fernando, a massage in our room, a museum of masks, restaurants, and side trip possibilities. It was grand. I can't imagine there is a better place to stay!

By far the best!

  • 5 of 5
San Miguel de Allende is our favorite place to be, and Caren and David together with their House of the Flowers is a major part of that reason. We've vacationed and worked in many of the usual wonderful places around the world, from the exotic and tropical to the the U.K., Europe, Asia, and all around the U.S. In the end, SMA's peculiar magnetism brings us back again and again. We've stayed with Caren and David three times and we will keep coming back as long as they'll have us. Their lovely and well-appointed casitas are just-right in size and amenities, and their garden must be seen - waking up in this Architectural Digest-quality environment is really something to behold. Caren and David are there for you to answer questions and help guide you as much or as little as you like, and their insider knowledge of all the ins and outs of SMA helps you become an instant expert. The House of the Flowers is perfectly located less than a minute's walk from a farmer's market and a fresh tortilla shop and it's a short, flat walk to the Jardin and all the amazing shops and restaurants. An SMA experience doesn't get better than this.

Perfect Accomodations

  • 5 of 5
Our week stay at House of Flowers could not have been better. This home is an architectural masterpiece - fitting perfectly in San Miguel. It is so close to the center of the city thay you can walk almost everywhere. The owners were very helpful, making recommendations and answering any questions we had. In spite of the city center proximity, it was very quiet and peaceful - the garden is serene and quite large. The rooms were well equipped with a mini-kitchen which was very convenient, as well. Thank you David and Caren

A Hidden Treasure

  • 5 of 5
We are from a suburb outside Chicago and were coming to San Miguel as we had never been there and to spend time with our cousins who live there. House of Flowers was recommended to us and what a hidden treasure. We could not have had a more PERFECT stay. Location was such that we walked everywhere. Accommodations were to perfection. No stone unturned. Caren and Dave have thought of everything to make our stay so comfortable. They were both always available if we had any questions. This was very comforting.

Comfortable and Lovely Place

  • 5 of 5
A friend had recommended House of Flowers, so without looking further, I booked one of the two suites. From the busy street outside, that gave no clue to what was behind the door, my jaw just dropped when we arrived and saw the lovely refuge inside. And one does appreciate this place as a refuge, after walking around for hours in the busy town and environs each day.

The lovely garden is central, with the two suites surrounding it. Our suite was large and comfortable and decorated like something in a magazine - except it was more unique and colorful. We made coffee each morning (and the coffee was strong and dark and flavorful) - just one example of the attention to detail in this place. And as film lovers, Caren had a wonderful box of films we pawed through to select a few we looked at in the evenings. Be sure to also view the documentary Caren made about San Miguel.

One unexpected, trip-saving plus was that Caren gave us several pages of restaurants, with annotations, and places to visit, even down to the cab fare we should pay - for the few places that needed cab service. I had been so busy prior to this trip, that I hadn't done my usual compulsive planning, and Caren's hand-outs made all the difference for our week-long visit. They were all we needed, along with the tourist office we found in the main square. Caren also volunteered to help us arrange a tour to Guanajuato with the wonderful guide, Angelica.

The location is ideal, because you can walk almost everywhere. But if you just need to crash in a comfortable, charming place where you can sit out in the garden in a lawn chair and mindfully restore the spirit within, this is the place.

Little Piece Heaven In San Miguel de Allende (SMA)

  • 5 of 5
Choosing a place to stay in SMA was easy because we had help from my girlfriend's cousin Joanie, a discerning retired college professor. Joanie has been coming to San Miguel since she was a child and now she's in her 70's. She usually stays for 2 or 3 months, and since she is part of the SMA artist community,Joan is well informed and well connected.

In SMA, the Town Library conducts Sunday House Tours, where large groups of Americans and Canadians visit elaborate upscale properties. While volunteering on such a tour, cousin Joanie was very impressed with House of Flowers. And she recommended it highly. The rental suites are spacious and located centrally. Both the food market place and artisan's crafts fair were right outside our door.Raphael, the fruit vendor, sold us papayas, oranges, avacadoes, pineapples. We couldn't stop eating the wonderful produce. At Le Jardin, the town square,we saw the Cuban Dance Festival.Just down our street, we caught the local bus to visit the Hot Springs "La Gruta".

Staying at House of Flowers, we very much felt like part of one big extended family. When we needed a refrigerator, one was available. When we needed a ride to catch our very very early bus,a ride was arranged by Caren. When we wanted something good to read, there was a mini library bedside. When we wanted to sit out in the court yard and write, there were tables and chairs. When we wanted to call home to the USA, they had a phone line available to use(for free). When we needed "anything", it was always okay to ask our hosts,Caren and Dave. They even helped Susan to get herbal remedies. If we needed help or advice,Caren and Dave were always there for us. Just like family!
The property is very well kept, they have a gardener and maid service, so it is spotless, orderly, very very clean. Everything here is convenient, easy, available. When on vacation....who wants to hassle? They even have purified water coming out of the tap. So it's safe and healthy too! They have a restaurant list with their own ratings. They have emergency telephone numbers for MD's and medical attention, should you need it! They have a great collection of DVD's to borrow (free of charge). They have Wi-Fi (free). American -style heavy duty plumbing,no rude surprises !
If there is a better place to stay with nicer people,I'd have to say,
"I don't believe it! Because here, at House of Flowers ,we certainly found our little piece of Heaven!"

Activity and Interests

San Miguel offers an incredible array of activities. Fabulous

shopping, incredible restaurants, nightlife, cafes, art galleries,

hot springs, horseback riding, hot air balloon rides.

Incredible hiking trails with vistas that are to die for!!! These

trails begin 10 minutes from the property.

The most popular thing to do, however, in San Miguel, is to sit in

the jardin-the main square- and people watch.
