Early morning sunrises paint the skies over the majestic Sierra Madre mountains while incredible sunsets wash the foothills behind us at dusk. Across the bay, Puerto Vallarta’s lights twinkle like glistening gems in the clear night skies, whales play in the warm ocean waters, sailboats snuggle into La Cruz’s calm harbor, fishermen arrive safely back at port with their fresh catch of the day. Walk out your door barefoot with your morning coffee and put your feet in the water’s edge. Catch a day of sun by the pool amidst tropical gardens or enjoy a restful siesta in a shaded hammock. What could be more heavenly!
The guesthouses at Baku , meaning a place of tranquility and serenity, are meticulously designed and luxuriously appointed with the casual elegance of Vallarta lifestyle where you’ll find many of the interior appointments hand-crafted from natural materials. Pebble designs, hand painted Talavera tiles, hand hammered copper sinks, rustic stone marble from the Yucatan, shell designs, bamboo crafted doors, thatched roofs from palm fronds (palapas), hand-crafted furniture and original artwork create a welcoming, luxurious living space with a rustic flair. The natural beauty of the outside environment touches your inside living space with endless view of the bay, mountains, beach and gardens. You’ll find candles to create a romantic ambiance at night while you can count on all the conveniences of North American living as well – luxurious linens, hot water, electricity, flushing toilets, purified water, fully equipped kitchens, etc.
The beach at Baku offers you a delightfully tranquil environment to get away from it all. There are no jet skis whizzing by; there are no vendors selling you their wares; there is little to no traffic except for Sundays when families often head to the beach for the day. Simply said, it is a natural, undeveloped beach with a touch of wild thrown in … a perfect spot to capture a feeling of being totally by youself and away from it all.
Baku is located on the north coast of Bahia de Banderas (the western hemisphere’s 2nd largest bay) in the pueblo of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle away from the hustle-bustle of the more popular international resort destination of Puerto Vallarta. The sleepy village of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is approximately 15 miles north from Vallarta and Puerto Vallarta’s international airport. Baku offers plenty of private spaces situated on more than 30,000 sq. ft. of private property away from gated condo communities and traditional resort lodgings. It is American owned and operated by Marianne Jacobs and Mike Loesch.
Join us at Baku and you’ll be touched by the romance of living in the tropics and the enchantment of the sea while enjoying a simpler, slower-paced life in a small Mexican village. While many guests often forget what time it is and/or simply stop caring about the time, we promise … we’ll get you to the airport on time for your return flight!
Peaceful and beautiful. The lulling sounds of the ocean, children playing in the distance, birds chirping - all made this a restful and enjoyable stay. Marianne and Mike provided helpful info and answered any questions we had. The place is beautifully furnished and landscaped which all help with the attitude and atmosphere of a peaceful haven. Plenty to do - or plenty of opportunity to do nothing - just what we needed. Martie and Blas, New Mexico
Whether you’re up for lazy days or “not so” lazy days, you’ll find it's your choice at Baku. Take a 5 minute stroll down the beach to one of the local palapa restaurants for an ice cold cerverza (beer) and “huachinango entero” (grilled whole red snapper) or stroll through the village to get your favorite homemade ice cream. Visit the local Wednesday tiangi’s (markets), pick out your fresh catch of the day at the “Pescaderia” (fish market), listen to an evening of live music talent, dine out at one of the local restaurants featuring European, Italian, Mexican, German, French, American or Mediterrean cuisine, visit an art gallery featuring Huichol handcrafted art (local native Indians), or participate in yoga or Spanish classes. Swimming, beach-combing, walking, snorkeling and sunbathing are popular activities as well. And then, of course, there is the favorite sport of simply “doing nothing” with the exception of curling up in a shady, cozy spot and merely soaking up the beauty and tranquility surrounding you.
Nearby Puerto Vallarta offers world class shopping, first class dining, Mexican fiestas, mariachis, numerous art galleries featuring famous Mexican artists and more. Or head out to the northern tip of the Bay to Punta de Mita for a delightful day on the beaches sitting under palapas, where the shopping comes to you. You can find almost every Mexican craft available there - hand-woven blankets, jewelry, hand-crafted wood objects, talavera bowls and platters, leather goods, etc. Or enjoy a romantic evening at one of our favorite restaurants, El Dorado, where food is outstanding, service is remarkable, and sunsets are exceptional.
The whole Bay area is steeped with opportunities for snorkeling, fishing, whale watching, sailing, swimming with dolphins, parasailing, scuba diving, eco-tours, jungle adventures, kayaking, boogie boarding, jungle adventures, horseback riding, golfing at six different courses, hot springs and more. The list seems to be endless.
Upon returning from a day of adventuring, Baku offers you awesome views, private spaces and gentle sea breezes. At night the sounds of gentle waves will lull you off to sweet, peaceful dreams. So whether you’re fancy is watching sunrises paint the skies glorious colors, soaking up the sun, lingering over conversations with candles glowing in the night or simply gazing at the twinkling stars, we‘re sure you‘ll be soothed by the tranquility and serenity of Baku.
