Many personal touches

  • 5 of 5
Sept 08 The many personal touches to this cottage make it a very clean and comfortable "home base" to see Maine and Canada. The owners made wonderful choices in updateing the cottage. After spending the days outside or touring Canada we spent eveings on the deck watching the light change. Relaxing and quiet - just what we were looking for.
Thanks much to the owners!

Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5
The Shore View is aptly named. You can lie in bed and see a completely unimpeded view of the ocean for miles around. At night you can lay there and look at all the constellations.
The house is bright and neat as a pin, walking distance to the bank, grocery store and downtown Lubec with all its restaurants, library, chocolate shop and gift shops. The beds are comfortable. With the cleanest, purest and most refreshing air coming in from the ocean I slept 10 times better here than at home.
We come to Lubec because of the wonderful hiking trails along the ocean and through the pine-needle-cushioned forests. Some trails run through old abandoned farmsteads with their ancient enormous lichen-covered apple trees hanging with red, yellow and pink apples.
We like to rent a house instead of staying in a hotel or motel. It's not that expensive and we spent many evenings having a good home-cooked meal while watching one of the excellent movies available with the house.
We also took the ferry to Eastport, went whale-watching and saw seals and porpoises.
The Shore View is a vintage home in beautiful condition. It reminds me of my grandma's house.

My two friends and I stayed at the Shoreview for a wonderful "girl's getaway" week - enjoying what the locals professed to be the best week of weather all summer. The house was very clean and smelled "fresh" when we arrived. The kitchen was well equipped and what a pleasant surprise to find laundry detergent provided. The house pictures are a good portrayal of the home. The books, DVDs, games and maps that live at the house helped us enjoy our stay all the more. We found the location to be close to the downtown area and the beach. During our stay, there were in-town musical concerts offered with no admission fee, wonderful restaurants, and very friendly, outgoing residents to share conversations. We were very busy and put many miles on our rental vehicle. I would say a vehicle is necessary to enjoy the beautiful parks, interesting little towns and numerous beautiful beaches. We loved our stay in Lubec and wished we could have stayed longer.

Wonderful Home, Great location

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I have stayed here for 3 months during the late fall/early winter. It is a wonderful home that is true to the pictures shown. They have put a lot of thought into making this place feel like a home with art on the walls, a small collection of DVD's, good selection of boardgames/children's activities, throw blankets, ect. The new deck of the back of the house is wonderful for reading and enjoying the view. One of our favorite parts of the house was the location itself. Easy walking distance to the beach, the town, the grocery store. The town of Lubec itself is small and quaint with amazing and friendly people. There are tons of hikes and beautiful coastlines to enjoy around here. We'd certainly recommend to friends/family alike.

Kid-friendly getaway

  • 5 of 5
This house is very welcoming to both children and adults. A lot of thought and care went into choosing the interior decorations, which are tasteful and classy in every room. The pictures and other wall hangings are really nice and add to the charm of the house. The master bedroom is especially bright and cheery, and faces to the east so there is plenty of morning sunshine to start your day. There is a great playground just down the street that kids will love, as well as the entrance to the boardwalk that goes to the beach. When you walk on the boardwalk you will be surrounded by beautiful flowers, including wild irises and fragrant roses. On the day we were there, we had the entire beach to ourselves. The other great feature about this house is the location right next to Campobello Island, which is a wonderful place to visit and explore, especially the island's provincial park. Canada's provincial parks are simply amazing, far superior to the state parks in the U.S. It takes a while to get to Lubec, but it is definitely worth the trip. This house is very comfortable, and for the perfect ending of the day, we enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the full moon rise over the water.

Location

Activity and Interests

Lubec has bold coastal cliffs, coastal rain forest, wildflower

meadows, and several sandy beaches (rare this far Down East). The

region is host to three state parks, a national wildlife refuge, and

several nature preserves, all of which offer well-maintained hiking

trails. Lubec claims the easternmost point of land in the United

States and is home to the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, one of the most

photographed lighthouses in the country. In fact, you can see and

visit 5 lighthouses within a 10-mile radius of Lubec. Local whale,

wildlife, and puffin tours offer the chance to observe nature up

close. Nearby kayak and canoe rental facilities and the many public

boat ramps in the area also offer a chance to explore and observe on

the water. The area is rich in history--from the first naval battle

of the Revolutionary War to Maine's own "Cannery Row," which lined

the

waterfronts of the Down East coast. You can tee off at area golf

courses; visit museums; explore the beauty of natural, undeveloped

coastline; view wildlife up close and personal; take the kids to

safe, clean, fresh water swimming holes; stroll deserted beaches;

visit state, national, and international parks; hike or kayak; or

just relax and let life flow on by. You'll find it all here--rich

history, spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, and friendly people.
