About the Owner

Mostly we both grew up in the Midwest but after getting married, we moved to Guam so my husband could work for the Government of Guam. After that we moved back to the midwest and between the cold and my hay fever, we decide to join some of the family and move to California. As part of our adventure of moving, we decided to build a kit house and after a search of Northern California fell in love with Pine Mountain Lake.

We built the house from 1981 to 1984 at which time we moved from the Bay Area to the house with our 3 daughters. They attended school in Groveland. Most of the time my husband worked in the Bay Area and commuted to Groveland on weekends. After the children left for college, I moved back to the Bay Area to be with my husband full time and start a new career of Library Assistant.

We did not want to loose the house so since 1999, we have been renting it out for travelers. That still allowed us to come up and spend time in the house.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I wouldn't have wanted to spend my 30th Birthday anywhere else! I enjoyed being surrounded by nature. It felt great hanging out on the bench swing, enjoying nature. The first night it snowed! My first time seeing falling snow!! Yosemite was amazing and breathtakingly beautiful. I faced one of my fears of climbing Rocks to the bottom of a beautiful waterfall. The house felt like home. I enjoyed playing games and watching movies with my sister.

This is a very beautiful and nice rental in Groveland(Approx 26 miles from Yosemite Park Entrance). We enjoyed staying in this rental.Things are very smooth starting from booking this rental till we leave back the rental.Owner is very helpful and informative.Kids enjoyed a lot.Backyard is a nice chill out place, and price is very much nominal.

Would highly recommend this to friend and families.

Excellent experience ..beyond expectations

We loved staying in this house as it was very clean and neat , plus lots of things to do for kids in the house.

Backyard was superb and the community is gated and well checked so it was safe to be in the community even after 9.00 PM.

we will definitely recommend this house to our friends and surely come back here to stay whenever we visit Yosemite.

Owner's Response: Our house is planned to be very family friendly. Besides being near Pine Mountain Lake with swimming and playgrounds, we have games, puzzles and DVD's for the whole family. We also try and keep the rental fee low so more families can come and enjoy both Yosemite and Pine Mountain Lake. Since the house is fully equipped, families only have to bring clothes and food for their stay. Sally

vacation stay

  • 4 of 5
We stayed for a week in August. My wife and myself plus my 4 children. We also brought a friend of the kids along. Plenty of place although wrt to the sleeping arrangements, my twins (11ys) had to share a queen bed. This was not a problem for us.So bear in mind that, althiough it sleeps 8 it does involve 2 queen beds (sharing). Great location in that it is 20 miles (realistically 40 minutes) to the Yosemetie gate and realistically 1 1/2 hours to the central Yosmetie village. So this was great. Also only 45 mins to Jamestown. The lake was beutiful and relaxing. Plenty for all to do and 2 1/2 miles to the main beach (5 mins by car), about 1/2 mile to a smaller beach. Just walk 2 mins to the fishing pier. Can swim, tan, rent kayaks, yachts, motor boats etc. When I saw the pics of the deer in the garden I thought this was a rrae event...not so. Was sitting outside in the evening having a BBQ and the deer walked right passed us (3 feet)..little shy but definitely not afraid. very relaxing place to stay but within reach of plenty to do. The nearrby town though seems to have an affinity for pizza. Too many Pizza joints, not enough variety of other take outs for kids and family. The unit looks a little tired with some of the furniture looking well worn, but then if you are looking for 5 star you are not looking at VRBO. Well stocked kitchen, games, TV and extras are a nice touch. Would recommend. Great value for the money.

From the Owner

We had ordered the kit house before we moved to California but had to find a lot within 2 years or our contract would expire. We explored many areas but most were too expensive or just didn't feel right. A friend of my husband's suggested looking into Pine Mountain Lake, so one weekend we went camping in Yosemite and on the way up we stopped in Sonora to check out the Pine Mountain Lake Subdivision. My husband who was a Civil Engineer and Planner wanted to check it out before we looked mainly to see if it was sewered. It was so we went to a realty company in Groveland and toured a few lots. We really fell in love with this lot. Fantastic location, green space on 2 sides and within walking distance of the beach. After our weekend in Yosemite we stopped back at the realtor and purchased the lot and never regretted it.

From the Owner

Our house is in a quiet area of Pine Mountain Lake. A ravine with a stream is across the street from the house and there is a large green space next to the lot that the association owns. Not only that but we could walk to a beach and Fisherman's Cove was even closer. The girls loved exploring the ravine and green area. As years went by, a tennis court was built across the ravine and a half basketball court and play ground was kitty corner to our house. The deer alway come and visit our property and when we lived there they always would know when my roses would bloom and get the blossoms before I could see them.
