While a remote tropical isle may be the ultimate escape, you need
only head to the northeasternmost tip of Florida for an unspoiled,
unpretentious refuge. Framed by 40-foot dunes, Amelia Island's white
sand beaches are remarkably uncrowded year round, in contrast to
their more southerly counterparts. You'll also find plenty of
fishing%u2014on the island and offshore%u2014bird watching, and horseback
riding, and about 120 holes of that famous Sunshine State golf.
Sample 1860s military life at Fort Clinch State Park. Wind your way
up narrow staircases to bastions overlooking the Amelia River, or
peek into the fort's well-preserved blacksmith shop and garrison
infirmary. The Amelia Island Museum of History cuts a wide swath
with archaeological finds and historical paraphernalia all stuffed
inside the renovated island jail.
Second Row condo only a few steps from the beautiful clear waters of
the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy extensive views of the 15 miles of white
sandy beaches. Spectacular sunrises and cool breezes as you watch
dolphins play are why everyone returns to this pristine location.
This beautifully furnished unit can accommodate 7 guests with 3

Spend lazy days relaxing on the beach, or walk for miles along the
ocean's edge. Watch the dolphins playing in the water, collect
beautiful shells, and spend hours hunting for shark's teeth - they
really are here! Or spend an afternoon fishing in the surf.
Stroll through historic downtown Fernandina Beach - here you will
find a wonderful collection of unique shops with irresistable items
to tempt you all. Pause at the ice-cream store and smell the freshly
made chocolate. Sample the many wonderful restaurants. After a day
at the beach take the children to the waterslide or Miniature Golf
or to historic Fort Clinch. St Augustine (oldest town in the US) is
about 90 minutes drive, Savannah is 2 hours away and Orlando with
all the theme parks and Disneyworld is a 3 hour drive.
Or you can take a boat trip to enchanting Cumberland Island and see
the wild horses - or visit Okeefenokee State Park and boat along the
Suwanee waterway and see the alligators. How about visiting the
Georgia Golden Isles just north of us - the choices are endless -
you will soon discover that a week is not enough to see and do
everything our little island has to offer.
