This family heritage on Lake Tsala Apopka has been a refuge for generations...to return to our roots and reconnect with the beauty of this land and the bond of family. We are inviting you to experience an unforgettable stay in one of our apartments and we hope that you too can feel the warmth and magic of our place. Whether you are interested in fishing, boating or water sports, there is ample opportunity to enjoy this beautiful lake. There are also bike trails nearby for the cycling enthusiasts. Come and enjoy this area of Florida that still embodies the charm and culture of a simpler, unhurried lifestyle that is slowly vanishing.

We have Pat's Place (Apt A), a higher level apartment with two bedrooms and one full bath. It boasts a stunning view of the lake and a beautiful wrap-around porch to enjoy your afternoon drinks and conversation. There is a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and living room. Recent redecorated with British Colonial decor, one bedroom has a queen size bed with a waterfront view. For guest versatility, we have two twin beds in the second bedroom. This bathroom has a full shower, bathtub and vanity sink.

On the ground floor level we have Ruth's Haven (Apt B), a two bedroom one bath apartment that is just steps from the lake and boat dock. Enjoy the morning sunrises that are sure to mesmerize you with their colorful beauty. The view is breathtaking, complete with mature oak and cypress trees that have many a story to tell of this ancient land, first settled by Native American tribes. Decorated in a more contemporary and eclectic style, the living room has ample seating to entertain guests. Both bedrooms have queen sized beds and allow no intrusive light, in order to provide a comfortable night's sleep. This unit has a full waterfront view from the kitchen, dining room and family room. The kitchen is fully equipped for all your culinary needs. Bathroom is complete with shower, bathtub and vanity sink.

Happy with our winter "home"

We have rented the upstairs apartment for the past three winters and are signed up to rent next winter also. No words really describe the view and the sunrises! It's a comfortable apartment & the owners respond promptly to any problems or requests we make. The neighbors are wonderful, friendly people and we enjoy watching out for the wildlife, both on land and in the water. Golf courses are numerous and so are the restaurants. It's nice to go down to the dock and catch fish for supper, too.

Wonderful Retreat

Our stay at this rental was a wonderful and relaxing time. The rental is more than adequate, with all the amenities you will need to be comfortable. The unit had everything you will need. Just come in, unpack the suitcases and put away the groceries. Your done. The owner is happy to address any concerns and the groundskeeper is a great man. Close to town but far enough away to enjoy the breathtaking sunrises, birds singing in the morning and an occasional gator grunting after sunset, added to this tranquil setting. We enjoyed sitting on the lanai and fishing the local lakes. Watching the local airboats as they raced across the lake, became a great daily event. Can't wait till we return next winter.

Owner's Response: Having just returned to my home in Sarasota from a trip to the property to get contracts signed for next year, I'm awed anew at the beauty of the surroundings. Being at the rental in summer, I miss the new yellow-green leaves of the trees, and the explosion of color in the azaleas and camellias in full bloom. The lake, the sky, the grounds, the weather were absolutely perfect. However, the glorious sunrises over the lake, different each morning, are my favorite and stunning all year long, as the above former tenant, a photographer has captured--delighted to have them return! Also, we are blessed to have a handy man/manager so close by who treats the property as his own.

Perfect Picture -- Too Good To Be True?

Too good to be true?? If only the owner would have shown concern to want to make things right with us. Here's my experience... One week later, we seen the error in our ways of jumping quickly! Being former landlords, we understand the importance of seeing to our renters needs (especially the good ones!) We addressed ALL of our issues with the owner (BTW, they live in Sarasota). She told me "you don't need to go on and on...I hope you find another place you'll be happy in." In all fairness, I thought I'd give a heads up to potential renters. You should know exactly what you get for your money. This is what we got for our money: The straw that broke the camels back was wolf spiders over the size of a half dollar invading our turf -- not one, not two, but we killed over a seven in a month's time!! We addressed the owner regarding same and she sent out Pest Control who informed us that it was difficult to kill spiders. I'm not terrified of spiders but these suckers are scary and huge! It was very distressing to me. Good luck sleeping peacefully. You have a beautiful view of the lake, no doubt...and with the lake comes the activity on the lake -- very loud airboats, one either side of the unit to be more exact. The beds are old and non-supportive. If your stay is short you should be fine, but we were living there longer term. One bed is very firm, the other has no support at all (I weigh 100 lbs and my back would hurt every day!) The furniture is nice and small people will be fine, but your larger husband will be hard pressed finding comfort anywhere but on the couch. Long term renters need comfortable furniture. We had standing water in the shower and addressed this to owner. We were told, they knew about this -- it was a slow drainer. We saw the handyman regularly. We are allowed up to $100 electric per month which is very reasonable. There was no weather strip on the patio door to keep the cold air from blowing into the apt. The kicker is both units (A & B) are on one meter so if your neighbor likes their heat at 80, you could end up paying additional costs. By the way, we knew this going into it, but the bedrooms are located in the back of the unit and have NO windows. Our contract was iron-clad about us (and our heirs) not suing the owners (which I found to be odd) -- but after living here, it makes full sense to me now.

Owner's Response: Wow, what an utter surprise! First, let me say that this duplex property has been lovingly maintained in my family for literally many generations. It's true that while Sarasota is my permanent home, our family greatly enjoys staying there in the summer. I keep it as clean and as comfortable as my permanent home. The dwellings and overall property has had for many years been regularly serviced by a local professional pest control co. The pest control company's name & contact information are easily seen inside the unit for any tenant to call if a need arises. This tenant did so, and the company was prompt to send a representative out and he also called to advise me of his service, too. This is my only vacation property and I have always been available to this tenant (and any other) when she called about anything. Not only that, we retain a property manager/handyman who lives very near and whose name & contact information are also easily seen inside the unit for any tenant to call. This tenant regularly did, and the manager/handyman courteously and promptly addressed all of her concerns. The reason I was so taken aback is that after having been there for 3 weeks, I left a phone message asking if this tenant would be interested in coming back next year, as I had an inquiry regarding the same dates from a rental prospect. The tenant returned my call, said yes, and I thought we were all set to sign the rental contract when 8 days later she called to say she was not coming back and went into a long list of complaints. As she had found another place for next year, I sensed she was just trying to justify her changing her mind so quickly and I did tell her she didn’t have to go on. It is true, I do want folks to be happy there, as all of our other guests have been, and return. One of our tenants who eventually bought a home in Hernando stayed 5 consecutive years. The tenants currently occupying Apt A want to sign a rental contract for next year, which would make it their 4th year coming. Yesterday we were contacted by tenants from last year that also want to rent again for 2 months in 2015. Returning tenants must count for something. Should anyone like a reference from our past tenants, I would be very pleased to comply. Thank you for your interest. Kind regards, Edith

This property has been passed down to our family since my great-great grandfather, a Florida pioneer, homesteaded the land in the late 1800s. Our family chooses to go and enjoy the lake house with family reunions and celebrations during the summer, and we primarily rent it during the winter season to those who are looking to escape the inclement weather from the north.

Day trip to Disney and other Orlando attractions only one and a half; hours away

This property is directly on the lake, has a dock, row boat, and spectacular views from inside either apartment, in adition to outdoor porches. Walk outside sliding glass doors, and you are steps away from the lakefront, with chairs on a seawall to enjoy a balmy lake breeze and a closer view of the lake, including activity of waterfowl and fish. Additionally, there is also the option of casting a line from the dock, or taking the rowboat out for excercise or fishing.
