"Dream of the Dolphin" Ocean Front Retreat.
All photos are taken from the property.
Escape frenetic city life to the sound of pounding surf at your
doorstep and miles of broad beach and Cape Cod style dunes in both
Perched directly on a beach whose water is rated #1 in the US for cleanest water quality by the National Resources Defense Council, this ideal beach hideaway is located on a barrier island at the narrowest point where the Bay meets the open ocean (with only about 1500 feet between) you can count the dolphins (literally dozens on an average
day) from your living room.
Or watch the sun rise over the ocean from the deck or corner desk looking out over the dunes (WIFI as well as hard line internet access from the desk).
Situated on the last pristine beach in the Mid-Atlantic region with 75 acres of
protected dunes buffering you in both directions, this is the
essence of the Quiet Resorts of residential (unincorporated) Fenwick
Island. You can swim in the ocean, body surf and boogie board, kayak
with the dolphins or walk miles in both directions on an unobstructed protected
beach with dunes on one side and ocean on the other. All without getting in a car.
And bring your dog, to walk or to swim in the surf, because this area
of beach is one of the very few in the nation that permits dogs on
the beach 365 days a year, 24 hrs per day (on leash, of course). And
well behaved dogs are welcome in this house (until recently, the
primary residence of a 3 legged golden retriever who was forced to
relocate?). The Pompeii style Italian tile floor is dog-friendly.
Located 1 mile from Fenwick Island town, 2 miles from South
Bethany, and 2 miles from the action of Ocean City, this 2 bedroom, 2
bath condo is one of only 4 units directly on the beach in this
private oasis. Views are for miles down the beach in both directions and the beach is broad and flat, flanked by the largest dunes in Delaware or Maryland, right in
your front yard.
Little Assawoman Bay is directly across the road -- the ocean and the Bay are extremely close here, and 1/4 mile down the road is a place to kayak, throw sticks for your dog or kitesail etc. You also enjoy a grassy yard and cultivated flora (and fauna too, in the form of a red fox on the dune at day break and rabbits nibbling the edible plants).
Sleeping 6, this cozy retreat is almost as large as 3-4 BR TH's nearby (1250 sq ft). It is ideal for a family (one species or two), for couples (the queen futon bed in the living room presenting perhaps the most desirable alternative, hearing the waves clearly all night, or for a small "circle of friends" to spend a relaxing week away from it all.
One guest commented that this house feels like actually being in the boat in
Hemingway's "Old Man and the Sea"-- it is so at one with the ocean
and the sand. You can enjoy the breezes and the views through the
two sets of floor to ceiling glass doors, even while checking
your email on the high speed cable at the corner desk in the living
room,. And you will eat, drink and be merry on the generous deck
with outdoor dining furniture (and a barbeque grill below).
Or, as one lovely guest mentioned, you can "find each other" in this tranquil setting.
This house was furnished for the owner who spent summers here from 1999-2006, including Tommy Bahama dresser, Island Rattan and Pottery Barn furniture, Architectural Ceramics Italian tile in living area and MBR, hardwood in the guest room. In addition to its proximity to Bethany and Ocean City, with its Boardwalk and kids' activities, this beach hideaway is 25 min to Rehoboth, with its sophisticated nightlife and shopping (and tax free outlets).
Direct Ocean front with unobstructed views north and south and
private crosswalk over the dunes to the beach. Little Assawoman Bay
is directly across the street, providing opportunities for kite
sailing, wind surfing, boating, fishing, kayaking, clamming or
crabbing). And of course, beachcombing, hiking, biking, bird
watching, sightseeing/shopping, fine and casual dining and nightlife,
amusement parks and miniature golf are all available nearby.
300,000 Atlantic bottlenose dolphins summer here and come in very close to shore to entertain you numerous times a day. They can be seen from the deck and even from inside the house when jumping and cavorting.
