About the Owner

I love old houses and those in Niagara on the lake in particular. This is our get away spot too so we decorate it and keep it like it was our own.

Wonderful, simply wonderful

Awesome place to stay! Everything you can think of and need is there. Location is perfect, it's comfortable, super clean and you feel safe there. The house is beautifully decorated and there are many things to do inside. Don (the owner) has stocked everything so well, including decks of cards, games, books and movies to watch. Being there in January, we spent a lot of time inside and truly enjoyed the warm comforters in the bedroom and the luxurious thick towels for the shower. We hope to get back sometime when we can also enjoy the yard, as it even looks beautiful in the winter!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I own Marrakech Mansion and have worked hard to maintain the historic charm of the house while adding a modern, fun flavour. It was built in around 1860, on land granted to a United Empire loyalist who fought in the war of 1812. If only the people who built it could talk to us! The garden is lovely in summer, a double sized city property with lots of grass, flowers and sitting areas to enjoy. I certainly hope you can return in summer to enjoy our Mansion.

Love, love, love this house

  • 5 of 5
My partner and I rented this lovely home for ourselves and our dog, as well as a few family members who were coming to Niagara-on-the-Lake for a wedding. We were so very pleased that we found this unique gem. The home has been lovingly restored. It is beautiful inside and out. The large yard is stunningly landscaped with many outdoor areas for relaxing and entertaining. There is plenty of parking space for at least 4 cars. Inside is a treasure ! Exotic and fun fixtures, colors, rugs. Everything is so comfy and cozy. There are four bedrooms and two and a half baths. The bedding and the towels are luxurious, not skimpy and worn out. The kitchen is well-stocked for evenings in, though the house is only a block from Queen Street which offers dining and shopping. We felt so at home in the warm, inviting house and plan to return as often as we can. The owners are delightful and could not be more accommodating. A perfect stay !

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. My wife and I love Marrakech Mansion and have decorated it much like our own home. The primary colour "Peach Butter" is used in our home as well. We have decorated the house with pictures, paintings and rugs from our travels to Morocco. The intent is to have a fun happy atmosphere that we can enjoy when we stay and one that our guests will enjoy as well. I hope to see you and your partner in the future, the dog is welcome as well!

First annual family vacation

  • 5 of 5
Beautiful home with every amenity we could possible think of. The bedrooms had beautiful bedding. Towels were great too!

Lots of homey touches; pictures and books and wallhangings. The bedrooms had lovely furniture. Just a great place.

The home was in pristine condition and had a helpful binder of info on the kitchen table, which we utilized more than once.

Would recommend this home and the owner/operator to anyone. He was prompt to respond to any inquiries we had prior to the trip and everything was just as he said.

Owner's Response: This is our vacation home too so we decorate with things we enjoy. Many of the framed photos in the library are of my ancestors, my father on the camel in Egypt during WW2, my Grandfather and Great Grandfather in the photo with the safe. The books are mostly those my wife has read, the sailing and war history mine. My cleaning people are proud of the work they do and love ths houses as much as I do. Thank your for your vote of confidence, I hope to see you again.

Family reunion

  • 5 of 5
Marrakech Mansion was all that was described and pictured, and more! The setting was quiet, but less than a five minute walk to the centre of town. The lovely historical home was charming, colourful and cozy, but roomy and equipped with all the amenities. It slept eight people easily, and the beds were really comfortable! The interior was spotlessly clean, with fresh linens and towels, and smallish, but very functional kitchen. The perennial gardens are a sanctuary, and there were so many comfortable spots, inside and out, to gather: the sitting rooms and dining room; front porch; back and side patios; and the lawns. The house has a central air system, as well as a large window unit on the landing of the second floor. We only used the air one of the three nights; it did not cool the bedrooms on the second floor as well as it did the rest of the house.

Don, the owner, was accommodating and helpful. He allowed us to drop our gear off early on the day we checked in. He let us know ahead of time that he would be coming to mow the lawn and put out the garbage the morning after our arrival. As soon as he heard that the toaster was out of order, he went out to replace it.

We did not explore the area too much, as we wanted to tuck in with family under one roof, but there are myriad activities in the area- kayaking, paddleboarding, biking and hiking, vineyard tours and wine-tasting, to name a few. A few of us visited the Falls early one morning, before the tour buses descended, and in the evenings, we walked down to the park on the river, right around the corner from the house. Some of us strolled the main street and window-shopped. There is a small grocery store in the centre of town, but for more selection, we went to St. Catharine's-about ten miles away. We found a fantastic bakery, Willlow, just outside town, and ordered one of the best cakes I've ever tasted! We had one dinner at Zee's, in downtown NOTL. It was fair, and the service was mediocre.

I would highly recommend the Marrakech Mansion for any group visiting the area, and hope to return there some day!

Owner's Response: You are right about the AC upstairs. The home was built in 1860 long before AC or insulation! There is a shortage of air returns upstairs that makes it difficult to cool. The best way to keep upstairs reasonably cool is to keep the AC on all of the time with drapes, closed and doors open. The close proximity to the lake negates the need for AC a lot of the time as you discovered. Open all of the screened windows and enjoy the cool evening breeze off of the lake. Thank you for your review and I hope to see you again.

Marrakech Mansion stay at Niagara on the Lake

  • 5 of 5
We brought our family here for a vacation as many of them had not been to Canada or seen the Falls. We had a great time and Marrakech is by far one of the best places to stay at NOTL. It is in the heart of town and close to all the stores PLUS just one block from the lake and all the paths!
I would recommend this place to anybody looking for a great historic home to stay in. Great yard and house layout!

Owner's Response: Niagara on the lake covers a huge area. It goes all the way out to the new Outlet Mall on the QEW highway. If you want to visit Niagara on the Lake it is important to try and book a rental in the Historic core of the town. Both of my houses (I own Casablanca Cottage as well) are in the core of the old town. The Mansion was built in about 1860, Casablanca is much younger being built in about 1925. Staying in either house allows you to walk to the restaurants, the theatre, grocery store and most shops in just a few minutes. They are both mine and I am proud to own them. I try to keep them in the condition that we keep our own home. Clean, neat and orderly. I am happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and your family enjoyed visiting Canada.

Marketing Retreats at Marrakech Mansian

  • 5 of 5
It is with great confidence, knowing my clients will have a wonderful time at the Marrakech Mansion every time I book this location in Niagara-On-The-Lake. Clean, Spacious and homey are three words I hear often, during their stay. We come together to work hard on our Marketing Plans, and enjoy a weekend celebration of wine tours (with Niagara Getaways)picked up at the door, and shopping and High Tea at the Prince of Wales all within walking distance. The owner Don has thought of everything and you will not be disappointed choosing this vacation house for your home away from home.

Owner's Response: Most people rent the house for a vacation however I do have a few customers who rent for a retreat or business meeting. Whatever your reason for coming to Niagara on the Lake Marrakech Mansion should fill the bill for you. It is 1 block from Queen street where the restaurants and shops can be found and 1/ block from Queens Royal park on the river. The house was build in the late 1800s when high ceilings and big windows were the thing to do. Both of these features make the Mansion an enjoyable place for your stay in Niagara on the lake.

Location

From the Owner

Location - Location - Location This is where you want to be if living or staying on Niagara on the Lake. In the Historic old town, a short walk to the grocery store, the pub and all things good!

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Niagara Falls is just a 20 minute drive away. The drive takes you through the wine region and past several of the area's 50+ wineries

all of which will welcome you in for a tasting.

The Shaw festival is at the heart of any Niagara on the Lake visit with plays by George Bernard Shaw and contemporaries. Go to the Shaw web site to view a list of plays and buy tickets. Buy your tickets early however as they sell out quickly.

The oldest Golf Course in North America is just around the corner.

You can walk and carry your clubs to the course.

The war of 1812 between the British and the USA was fought right on this ground and pottery shards are everywhere from the great fire of December 1813 when the town was burnt by retreating Americans. (We have forgiven them!) Walk or bike the flat streets and enjoy the

history.
