My family of eight flew into the Knoxville airport and met other family members of eight at the cabin. From the Knoxville airport it was a short, easy drive to Tippy Top. The house is exactly as advertised. Perched on top of ridge overlooking the Great Smoky Mountains, the house is set apart from other cabins and gives excellent privacy and a peaceful surrounding. This spacious "cabin" provides gathering places for large groups (such as a large dining table, a large living room), and areas where one can have quiet time (private balconies, separate living room, large bedrooms). The porches surround the cabin overlooking the mountains, so you can enjoy the view without crowding onto a single balcony.
The rooms are well appointed and the beds are very comfortable. In fact, my wife said the master bedroom on the main floor has one of the most comfortable king size beds that she has ever slept on. The bathrooms are beautiful, the water is hot, and the towels are large and soft. We cooked breakfasts and dinners at the house and never had a problem with finding what we needed to use to cook the meals. Simply put, the kitchen is well stocked and the appliances are fantastic. You will also love the location of this house! A 10 minute drive from the house puts you in the heart of Pigeon Forge. A few minutes more and you are in Gatlinburg. While staying at Tippy Top, we visited Ober Gatlinburg, toured the Tuckaleechee Caverns, rafted on the Nantahala River, went to Fontana Dam, and drove the Dragon's Tail, among other things. Each one of these locations are in different areas (for example, the river is in North Carolina), but all can be reached easily from the house without having young kids get impatient and saying: "Are we there yet?" You also get the joy of driving through the Great Smoky Mountains and seeing some of the most beautiful views east of the Mississippi River. In sum, if you are thinking about traveling to Pigeon Forge or the Gatlinburg areas do not pass up the opportunity to stay at this beautiful cabin. Mark (The Owner) will make sure that the place is ready for you and, if something is not perfect, they will immediately do what they can to accommodate you.

Great Time at Tippy Top Cabin

  • 4 of 5
We enjoyed our time. Everyone loves the cabin. We all 15 of us got along well and had a Great time. There are some maintenance issues none of which detracted from our enjoyment of the property.
As a resort rental property owner, I do want to share several items with you that I would appreciate knowing about so I might repair them. Fixing them would enhance the guests overall perception about the quality of the location.

The rocker in the great room can tip over when it is in the reclining position. Which may be a safety issue for other guests.
My wife and I are both in our 70's and not as agile as we once might have been. We loved staying in the Master suite with the beautiful views private bath and fireplace. We weren't about to let any of the children use the suite but a set of steps (we used one of our coolers) would facilitate our getting to and out of the beautiful bed. Also, I didn't try replacing any bulbs so I'm not positive though I'm pretty sure the pull switch that controls the lights in the ceiling fan needs to be replaced. There's plenty of light without the lights in the fan, so it's more of a mood setting thing.
In the Kitchen, the broken drawer, and door shelf didn't prevent us from filling up the refridgerator but they don't add to the quality image of the cabin. Also, it was a bit disconcerting that the Dishwasher isn't tied down to the counter and tips forward when you pull the top drawer out for loading and unloading.
We had a couple of pretty cold nights that week, so we noticed the weather stripping on the double doors to the deck, and the front door is leaving gaps for the cold air to get in and quite probably having an affect on the heating bill. The dead bolt on the downstairs doors to the patio is jammed so we weren't able to use those doors to get to the hot tub. That's probably my fault. I opened the door (which was unlocked when we arrived) during my first exploration of the house, and then locked it when I closed it. As an afterthought, I was surprised it wasn't locked when we got there.
The last item concerns the cigarette butts dropped from the deck that litter the beds around the patio.
The last item concerns the cigarette butts dropped from the deck that litter the beds around the patio. The butts, along with the other trash around the property and in the woods does detract from the quality of the wilderness experience we expect when we go to the mountains.

Owner's Response: Thank You for your review, I am glad you had a good time at the cabin. All of the small maintenance issues have been corrected. Sometimes guest can be a little disrespectful and mistreat the cabin during there stay. We work consistently to ensure that the cabin goes through monthly maintenance inspection to correct any issues. Again thank you for your review and I look forward to your visiting the cabin in the future.

Great Cabin!!!

  • 5 of 5
Just got back from almost a week stay in this beautiful cabin. The photo's are beautiful but in person it is so much more. The cabin and property was very well maintained. You truly do need to just bring your clothes and food with you. We were a party of 14 and we had plenty of room. Mark (owner) was very easy to work with. Looking forward to returning again in the future. Just wish we didn't have to leave.
