This place is so great. We fell in love with OB all over again. Thank you so much for letting us stay here. This cottage is absolutely gorgeous – you did a GREAT JOB with every detail. From all the mini-fridge space to the backpack beach chairs. You thought of everything. We can’t thank you enough. We will definitely come back! Thanks! It was amazing!

Lotus Cottages

We were evacuated during the California Wildfires and so we rented this cottage for four days. We really enjoyed staying there. I enjoyed the fact that because it has been recently renovated, everything was brand new. I am also a history buff and standing on the part of the back deck that used to be Wonderland simply intrigued and excited me. The cottage was cozy and comfortable and the decks gave us an opportunity to get away from people which is what I really needed to do. I loved the stained glass windows in the bedroom and bathroom and the sound system was pretty terrific. I have a penchant for wood, so I really enjoyed the paneleing and cabinets. They are beautiffuly done. The beach really is maybe a two minute walk away and the pier is very close. All and all my husband and I had a great time there and in spite of worrying whether or not our home would be there when we returned, we were truly able to relax and enjoy the beach community life and there is plently to do within walking distance. The only thing I could say that "could" be a problem is parking if you have more than one car. There is parking on the property for one car, otherwise you have to park on the street. Though it is a beach community which by nature has a lot of people, I felt very safe there.
The cottage was setup the way it was presented in the advertising, it is clean and very well maintained, I didn't have to deal with the owner much but he responded to my questions or requests quickly. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to be at the beach but have privacy too. We mostly just cooked in the kitchen but we did go to Thee Bungalow for dinner one night and really enjoyed it.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind words. I am so glad that we were able to provide you a temporary home during that trying time. We're glad you enjoyed LotusCottages so much. We put a lot of energy, effort and love into restoring this special historic beach cottage. The knotty pine paneling is so beautiful and it has such a terrific golden glow. The romantic night-time lighting in the living room and the bedroom make for such wonderful, enchanting memories. It's also great to know that you enjoyed our kitchen so much. Isn't that JennAir system terrific! I love the high-tech glass cooking surface. Again, thank you so much for appreciating the beauty and the history of LotusCottages.

BBQ dinners everynight

  • 5 of 5
This was our second stay here, and it works for us! The cottage is just right for a romantic get-away. We spent a lovely week in the cottage – enjoyed the back deck and BBQ dinners every night. Such an awesome place! Only turned the TV on once! I love the retro feeling to this area. Overall, Ocean Beach’s easy-going vibe was just what we all needed and we hope to come back sometime soon.

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying with us! Please come back again! Glad to know you enjoyed the back deck, the BBQ and the Palm Tree Grotto! The privacy is terrific. It's just a really fun place -- the ocean breezes, the palm trees, the parrots -- one of the many reasons so many of us love Ocean Beach!

Amazing Access to the Beach

  • 5 of 5
We liked that the cottage was very quaint and had efficient use of space. We enjoyed the kitchen. There was a good amount of storage space in the fridge and freezer. The cottage is so convenient. We walked everywhere. One evening, we took a short walk to the beach, and watched the sun set. We were serenaded by the Ocean Beach Jam Club on banjos and mandolins. Loved the cabin. I needed this funky little town – I got to feel like a local for a few days. Staying at the Cottage is so much better than the alternative.

Fantastic use of space – like a yacht!

  • 5 of 5
We have stayed at the Lotus Cottage many times, and as always, had a wonderful week here. What a privilege to stay in a little historic cottage, so different from what we’re used to. We had everything we needed and very much hope to come back. Of course, the beach being one block away is wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing your darling beach cottage. We thoroughly enjoy it! We could not ask for a better location! PS – the wild parrots cracked us up every morning – yet another reason we enjoy coming back!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review! When we remodeled the cottage, it was a challenge to make the most out of a 100-year old cottage -- and to include a "chef's kitchen," two refrigerators, one freezer, lots of storage and a comfortable bathroom -- again with lots of storage. Sounds like we did a good job! Thanks for noticing that!! Please come back and stay with us again!

Charming, peaceful and pleasant

What a lovely little cottage! Everything we expected from this Beach Community cottage. Close to so many things! The people around here were great. The cottage is fantastic for two people. The bed was comfy and cozy. The deck is private as it comes and the owl in the back courtyard is GREAT! We thank you for this time and look forward to returning. May you enjoy your time here! Thanks for providing us such a wonderful place to stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review! We appreciate it!! "The Owl" came from the Colonel Fletcher Building in downtown San Diego. The Owl Drug Company used to be located in the Fletcher Building. "The Owl" greeted patrons of the Owl Drug Store from the 1930s through the 1940s when they entered the store at the at the intersection of Sixth and Broadway. The Owl Drug Company was established in 1892 in San Francisco. When the Fletcher Building was recently renovated, the building owner asked our Cottage owner if he wanted to give this beautiful terra cotta piece of art a new home -- and so, it is now in the Palm Tree Grotto of Lotus 2.

Notes:

  • This very special, 1922 knotty pine paneled, Sears and Roebuck beach kit cottage was lovingly restored in 2007. It was designed to accommodate San Diego's extraordinary year-round weather. In the front is a private gated yard elevated above the street and bordered with palm trees. A delightful gourmet kitchen awaits you just inside the front door and includes two under-the-counter refrigerators, an under-the-counter freezer, a Jenn Air range and a microwave. The large counter space and tall stools on the opposite side create a fun and interactive place to eat. The entire cottage is surrounded by 280 degrees of deck, has keyless entry and there’s even a hidden stackable washer and dryer just off the back patio. If you appreciate true craftsmanship, you will love this cottage. No matter where you are in this cozy abode you will feel relaxed! Some History on our Beach Cottage: 100 years ago, the ground underneath this beach cottage was the beach. In 1918, an amusement park, Wonderland Park, was located here. The cottage sits on the ground which was formerly the concrete pad around the Wonderland Park Carousel. In 1922, three beach cottage kits were erected on Lotus Street. Today, these cottages are some of the oldest and quaintest Ocean Beach structures. LotusCottages is magical!
