Guestbook comments from the owner

Chris,

I just wanted to say how much we all enjoyed the 'cabin'. It exceeded my expectations! I was very pleased at the contents provided. I have a week at a time share and your house certainly was as nice.

I know that you are in contact with Doug, but I just wanted to let you know my thoughts as well.

Unspoiled Beauty, do I have to leave?

  • 5 of 5
Thank you, for renting out this treasure! It is not easy to find a place on "nice" water that is private too. This place is reasonably priced, secluded, and has everything that one would need to enjoy a vacation we feel it is a rare find! It was obvious to us that the owners took the time & planning to make this cottage a treat for their guests. We do not need anything fancy to enjoy ourselves. It is a simple, clean beach inspired home that does not pretend to be more than it is. The description and the pictures are accurate. It is a comfortable and bright place that has amenities such as quality appliances, comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. It is cheerful and thoughtfully decorated. It has extra little touches that I personally enjoyed such as a toaster oven, electric tea kettle, good blender, quality sheets, blankets and pillows. There were many little things which I really appreciated and have not always found at other rentals. We rented a Pontoon boat, and I was caught short not having planned for containers to put our food in. I thought no, not the store again, but to my delight, I searched and there they were, the perfect ones to pack our lunches in! Great planning I thought to myself about the owners. I want to also compliment the housekeeper who obviously takes pride in doing a great job! The house was spotless and shiny! There is a very sturdy and practical shelving unit in the laundry room that really helps to keep belongings and functions from the outside tidy. The owner Chris was in touch just the right amount, to explain how to operate and care for things in home and on beach so that we had great communications with him. This was a very good thing so to speak and Chris was sincere, courteous, helpful and prompt. The Bay and area VERY BEAUTIFUL. You will need water shoes and be prepared to take your time getting used to the water temperature. There are large rounded stones in water untill over my 5 ft hgt. It is truly incredible water very clear and each morning noon and night there is a new masterpiece, right out side your door to marvel over. I suggest natural insect repellent for outside as any nature area needs. This is a water lover's, nature person's area and home. Along with nature comes responsibility and a different kind of luxury! If that makes sense to you I highly recommend the area. If not perhaps you have an opportunity for new adventure. Also make sure you tie up the boats properly. Hope to return to this little paradise blessings..

Summer Vacation 2013

  • 5 of 5
This was our first visit to Baylake Cottage. It turns out that it was one of our best vacations ever! The place was just perfect. I slept like a baby every night, because the beds are so comfortable. The whole house is pristine. Clean, updated, and totally private. The beach is right outside the big front room windows. We had a ball using the canoe, kayak, and raft. Even caught fish off the canoe! Chris is the best. There were fresh flowers and candy when we arrived. It is quite obvious that he takes great pride in this beautiful home, and takes good care of it. Great restaurants and shops in Suttons Bay, and of course it's very close to Leland. We Meant to get to Traverse City, and never made it! We had enough to keep us busy right there. And we ate at home more than we usually do when on vacation, simply because it is so comfortable. I wasn't home 2 days and Chris informed me that he was putting the security deposit in the mail. (Last year we had to keep calling the owner for 3 weeks until we finally got it). We are planning on going back next year and I can't wait. Thank you, Chris! Laurie M.

Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Bay Lake for a wonderful week along with our daughter, son-in-law and grandson. We all had a great vacation. The bedroom arrangements were perfect for us, as were the wonderful mattresses. The atmosphere is completely restful and peaceful, seemed as though we were the only people for miles. Spent a great deal of time in the water, both swimming and boating, as the weather was very warm. We ate in each night, grill worked awesome and the kitchen was well supplied. Appreciated the call from Chris on our arrival to see if we had any questions or concerns. Would return in a heart beat.

Beautiful views

  • 5 of 5
I was here with 6 other girls, for a relaxing weekend. We were wanting some time to just catch up with each other and visit some of the wineries. We are all in our early 30's and pretty laid back. The moment we walking into the house, we knew we had chosen the right place. The kitchen is pretty big and open. The whole house has a very inviting feel to it. The whole wall of the living room is a window that looks onto the lake, which is just so serene. The beach is clean, too. And there are numerous wineries close by, as is the town. We all found exactly what we were looking for, and I plan on renting again in the future.

Property as described

  • 5 of 5
Decided to take a last minute weekend trip(4 night getaway). Property was described as secluded with private beach and no other people around, and it was exactly that. While the shore itself is rocky, they have a sandy area to relax in and have night-time fires. We bought firewood without realizing that there was plenty of firewood on the back side of the house. The breezes from the water into the huge picture windows were fantastic. The home is in great shape. iPod stereo dock to play your music, HD antenna on the TV for 6-8 channels of HD TV (Fox, NBC, etc). Plenty of towels. Beds were very comfy. Huge kitchen with all of the plates, glasses, cook-wear that you could want. Location to Leland was 15 minutes, to Sleep Bear Dunes was 20-25 minutes. Chris, was extremely friendly and very prompt with his phone calls, e-mails and deposit refund. We were very happy and hope to take another trip to this property soon. Thank you Chris.

Owner's Response: Great review...I would only add that as of April 2013 we now have satellite TV service with 150 channels.

Location

Activity and Interests

Located next to a vineyard, and just 2.5 miles north of Suttons Bay, this charming home has so much to offer and couldn't have a better location or view. Aside from the 28 vineyards in Leelanau County, this home is only a few miles from the Leelanau Sands Casino, and close to local farm markets, shopping, dining, art galleries and all of the many other attractions of the picturesque Leelanau peninsula.

The area hosts many activities; including the Cherry Festival and other local festivals, arts and crafts shows, concerts in the park, casinos, wineries, the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes (a must), performances at the Interlochen Arts Academy and the Opera House; you're certain to stay as busy or as relaxed as you want to be.

Enjoy fishing charter boats, catamaran sunset cruises, parasailing (for those who are brave), jet-ski rentals, hot-air balloon rides, our local markets, cherry picking (and other fruits depending upon the season), and hiking trails.

Looking to golf? Perfect area for that! Fantastic golf courses surround Traverse City. Want to go fishing? Look no further. Shopping? How about a large mall, an outlet mall, and amazing local shops to find that special treasure. The dining is also fabulous, and we have amazing local chefs that will prepare scrumptious meals that you%60ll want to tell your friends and family about, not to mention the many restaurants with gorgeous waterfront views.

Notes:

  • Take a short stroll north along the beach to the Raftshol Vineyard's Wine Tasting Room, mention Chris sent you, and the first bottle is on me! While you are there, sample their many flavorful award winning vintages. Need to stay plugged-in while on vacation? Use our free Wi-Fi internet access. Have a boat? Tie up to our secure mooring, and use our dock and canoe for access. Of course, the canoe is also available for guests without a boat! We also provide a kayak and an offshore swim raft. Very secluded and private location - the north side of the property is adjacent to wooded undeveloped farm property. The house is about 150 heavily wooded yards east of M-22 - creating a pleasant and welcome buffer from the road (which is not visible from the house). The property is on the water and has direct access to the waterfront - no roads or other barriers to cross. The beach is 17 stair steps below the house/deck. As you stroll the beach, watch for the bald eagle nests in the treetops along the shoreline. Beach conditions: The beach features a newly installed 65' x 20' sand area that provides plenty of room to relax and enjoy the waterfront. In other areas along the 232 feet of frontage, the sandiness/rockiness of the beach varies from year to year, depending on the water level, winter ice and storms, etc. It is typically a mixture of smooth pebbles and sand. The beach also has a nice fire pit with a large sitting log, and plenty of firewood for your summer bonfire parties!
