Wow this place is awesome! This house is like one of those houses right out of Paradise Magazine. Plus the house comes complete with a beautiful and amazing sunset. I slept out on the Lanai and it was picture perfect. The pool is great and I think that I have spent more time in the water than out. This is the best vacation ever. I hope that I can come back to paradise someday.

Vacation in paradise!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in this perfect house for 4 weeks-6 adults and a 1 1/2 year old boy-and we didn´t miss anything.the house was clean and perfectly equipped.
We had all our meals on the huge terrasse(lanai) with a marvelous view ,we enjoyed the big barbecue several times,we slept so well in the comfortable beds...and every evening the sunset was" the most beautiful ever".
We really felt like living in paradise!!!
Besides going to the beach we used the pool very often. We had rent a car and visited the whole island with its diverse landscapes and we loved it.
Elias adored the gekos!
.We will come back and will recommend the house to our friend and family.

This is our 6th time at the Kona Sunset House and we are totally spoiled. Set in a quiet neighborhood, with expansive ocean views, this luxury home gave us the opportunity to spread out and enjoy the many amenities here. It's beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, and included everything we needed for a carefree vacation. Our favorite activities included cooling off in the sparkling pool after a hot day at the beach, or enjoying dinner on the lanai watching the sun go down. We can't wait to go again!

You Get What You Pay For

This was the cheapest house with a pool we could find in the Kona area. If you are going to rent this property there are some things about the house and how it is run you should be aware of prior to renting

First and most importantly the house doesn’t have any smoke detectors. I would think strictly from a liability standpoint smoke detectors would be installed in the bedrooms at the very least.

The house has a 40 gallon water heater that is set at probably the lowest heat setting possible. In fact when you turn a faucet to completely hot you can still hold your hand under the water without any discomfort. This means when you and your family come back from the beach or the pool at the end of the day only two people can take a shower before you are out of hot water and that is provided no one has used any hot water for cooking, washing dishes or at the outdoor shower. The other people get to wait around until the water heater reheats. I asked for temperature setting on the water heater to be increased and I was told by Chris the caretaker “it is what it is” and he told me the owner (Stuart) suggested we split up our showers. This would explain why the master shower has a low flow shower head that I would liken to bathing under a misting nozzle. Also, if someone is taking a shower in the guest bathroom the water in the master shower goes cold (providing there is still hot water in the water heater).

The kitchen utensils are noted here as being “well stocked”. In my opinion the provided Faberware utensils and knives are some of the worst performing meal preparation tools money can buy.

Contrary to this listing beach towels were not provided. There was however some beach gear provided but it did not include sand toys or a beach bag.

Parking is listed as “plenty” but with the owners Suburban parked in the carport renters are forced to either squeeze into the tight spot left in the carport or park on the slopped driveway.

Overall it appears this owner is providing as little to renters as possible while offering the lowest price which may appeal to some travelers. In my opinion, there are better options for just a few more bucks and as a result everyone will get to take showers when you get back from the beach and will be able to sit down to dinner feeling clean.

Owner's Response: Wow this is a horrible review and the worst that I ever had. First we must acknowledge that this guest did not adhere to the rental agreement. They rented the house for four people and then packed the house 12 plus people. When we learned of the violation we asked that all un-rented quests leave and my caretaker was met with a violent response. The hot water heater is new and is set at factory settings and we have never had a complaint in the ten years that we have had this house. There is no water heater that can accommodate several people in a row. I don't know about the utensils, there is a good supply and are frequently replaced. There are six full sets of towels and six Beach Towels located in the master bath. Maybe they missed them. There is two parking spaces in the garage, one is taken by my personal vehicle for use when I am in town and the other is open. There are three more open spaces in the drive way and two more in front of the house. Seven parking spaces in total. There are smoke detectors in every bedroom and outside every room as well. Bottom line is that the house is not designed for large occupancy and we do not allow it but sometimes people will sneak extra people in. This person violated the rental agreement and was called on it, thus the fraudulent review. We take a great deal of pride in our home and try to present a fantastic experience for our guest as all the other reviews will attest and all guest concerns are taken very seriously and with a simple phone call. I never heard from this guest about any of his supposed concerns. We provide him with a great place and he abused our hospitality.

This lovely home was perfect for 2 couples wanting to explore Hawaii. The setting was perfection, drinks and dinner on the lanai watching the sunset was a treat. The house was extremely clean, right down to the recycling bins and grill - all spotless. It had everything we needed to feel at home. We would come back again, but for longer next time.

A highlight!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at this wonderful property for a week with the best of weather at the end of August. The house has an astonishing view from the lanai out over the ocean, a real nice swimmingpool just down below the balcony and was in all well equipped and suitable for us 6 people. Just outside the Kona village we could here relax in the sunsets after days filled with excursions. We really do recommend a stay in this nice house in a quiet and calm area.

From the Owner

I looked long and hard for just the right place in Hawaii. It seemed as though they all had obstructed views which was not an option for me. I love to sit on the Lani and take in the great views of the ocean and I never miss a sunset. It truly is the only place that I can really relax. Right in the heart of Kona means that I can go anywhere, weather to the beach or night life in Kona town, it's the perfect location. I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I do.

From the Owner

The views are the best and unforgetable sunsets not to be missed. The house is also on Walua Rd. which when exiting the house in either direction will lead you to the walking path. it's a great place to take a morning stroll. The layout of the house with bedrooms at each end allows for privacy between couples and night time dips in the private pool are great to. Enjoy!
