Property Details

Updated: Nov 21, 2014
Villa, 8 Bedrooms, 8.5 Baths, 25 Sleeps

Splendid villa in a beautiful, secluded mountain setting. Fully staffed with daily concierge, housekeeping, maintance, evening waiter and security. There are 5 BRs in the main house and 3 additional BRs available in the garden complex. The sights and sounds of wildlife, open-air tropical living and unforgettable views have all been captured in one special place - Villa Los Aires. Just completed in Spring 2007, this uniquely Costa Rican Villa is situated on a picturesque hillside in the rugged mountains of the Southern Pacific zone, only 12 miles from the ocean at Dominical. The main building (6000 sf/3 levels) sits in a private jungle reserve of 66 acres which has 5 large waterfalls, two rivers with nice swimming areas, spring fed creeks and kilometers of hiking trails. Incredible views of the valley and a cooler mountain climate set this house apart from the beach dwellings. Warm days and cool nights are the norm. The main house sleeps 14 persons and the garden rooms can accomodate another 8 guests There is an in-ground pool and 10 person spa. Giant chess is in the garden. Separate laundry facility and work out area. Maintenance and housekeeping staff are on site. For a nominal fee, a cook can be arranged for breakfast, lunch and/or evening meals.

Menus will be tailored to your preferences. Sample Menus are at our website.

With no other homes in sight, and lots of surrounding jungle, you have all the privacy needed to enjoy your stay in peace... with the exception of some noisy locals. ie: the Howler monkeys and the toucans.

Water in the house comes from our own jungle spring and is filtered/purified and perfectly safe for drinking. Vehicle parking is abundant however the locals tend to prefer horses over cars. Because of our remote location, guests at Villa Los Aires should have 4WD vehicles, especially in the wetter green season.

Groceries and beverages can be delivered to the house for your stay but are not included in the prices quoted below. While still available this year, take advantage of the opportunity to rent the whole lodge for your family or group. We are a perfect spot for a small wedding or commitment ceremony!

We guarantee you will enjoy the adventure, the incredible scenery and the comfort at Villa Los Aires.

Celebration with family and friends at the Villa

  • 5 of 5
My husband, Ron, celebrated his 50th birthday with 20 of our closest friends and family at your Villa in Costa Rica. We stayed at the Villa August 2nd to August 9th. It was everything plus more!! We all had such a tremendous time at the Villa! From the time we first arrived with Viviana and Paulo greeting us to the time of our departure, we had a great experience. My daughters, Annamarie and Elise, really enjoyed spending time with their father on such a special occasion. Ron had been planning this trip for almost a year. He knew he wanted to experience Costa RIca and heard about the Villa through his co-workers. The excursions of horse-back riding, zip-lining, and white water rafting were enjoyed by all. Paulo and Viviana scheduled all of our rides to and from town and events. We could not have done it without their assistance. Paulo was fantastic. He made sure everyone had a great experience and would greet us every morning. Our breakfasts were always ready and everything was taken care of. The cooks, housekeepers, and everyone who worked at the Villa were all top notch!
Our meals were excellent. We had a breakfast buffet every morning (loved the fresh pineapples and juices)! We had an option for lunch which was delicious. Our dinners every night were on time and served with a smile. We loved the appetizers, meals, and desserts! The cooks made a birthday cake for Ron on his 5oth birthday - Tres Leches cake.
We even had dance lessons by Paulo. Paulo would always provide us with Costa RIca history and tell us about the area. Paulo toured the grounds with us - making sure we all got to see the beautiful waterfalls on the grounds.
The vacation was a time for our friends and family to enjoy each others company and celebrate Ron's 50th birthday in beautiful Costa Rica. Thank you for allowing us to stay at the Villa los Aires.

Perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5
We recently had a wonderful visit to Villa Los Aires with family (5 adults) and 3 kids under the age of 10. Although the location was remote, it was definitely part of the draw and we were lucky to get to see lots of wildlife in the "yard" as well as enjoy the hiking and waterfalls. Our best wildlife spotting of the entire trip was the morning that Pablo, our host was giving us a tour of the property's waterfalls. Just as we were leaving the house, he spotted a sloth climbing down one of the trees in the front yard. We were all in awe and enjoyed spending 10 or so minutes watching the sloth climb about 10 feet. :)

Most days we left in the morning around 8am to do activities and returned by 4pm (around the the time the rain starting falling). Despite the rain, we would come home to enjoy the pool and relaxation on the patio while catching up on email (the wireless worked great). We very much enjoyed our nights in (as the drive in the rain and dark on the steep roads was not appealing) and were excited to taste the local cuisine that the staff prepared for us nightly.

There were definitely interesting creatures that would come out at night, and we all got a kick out of inspecting each one, the kids especially. Luckily, the doors to the bedrooms were kept closed at all times, so most of the creatures (grasshoppers, spiders, beetles, giant moths, frogs and lizards) were limited to the open areas (lizards were often found behind the closed doors).

All in all, a great vacation with wonderful accommodation.

A Great Choice

  • 5 of 5
Our group of 8 stayed for a week in August (rainy season) and had a wonderful stay at Villa Los Aires. We planned to use the van that was advertised with the property but ended up having to rent vehicles in San Jose, which was a complication but ended up working out for the best. I recommend paying attention to flight arrival times & sunset times and either allowing time to drive the 3.5 hours in daylight or staying your first night in San Jose. The drive from San Jose Airport was easy - nice roads, well marked, etc (we used the coastal toll road) but the last 30 minutes (from Dominical to the Villa) is steep with tight switchbacks and not a road I'd be excited to drive after dark (especially in the rain). The Villa was as pictured and described on the site - beautiful property, awesome waterfalls, big bedrooms with mini split air conditioners, which were a welcome relief from the heat & humidity, and every bedroom has its own bathroom. We had some big storms during our stay and lots of lightening, but no problems with the power whatsoever. Pablo (our host) was fantastic - guiding us to the waterfalls, spotting animals and pointing out interesting mushrooms and plants (we saw cusinga birds, a sloth, frogs, toucans, a coati & its baby and lots of cool lizards and bugs around the Villa) and he prepared a great complimentary breakfast for us every morning. The hot tub wasn't working quite right - Pablo said he needed an hours notice to get it warmed up, but it still wasn't hot a couple hours later. The daily maid service was a nice perk, as was the theater room (we thought "Romancing the Stone" would make a great addition to their library - Costa Rica reminded us of that movie). Loved everything about this trip - Pura Vida!

Green Adventure in a luxurious Costa Rican Villa

  • 5 of 5
The property was well kept and beautiful. The grounds were carefully maintained and lush. Toucans and macaws cavort in the trees right by the swimming pool. The rooms have AC and deluxe showers with plenty of hot water. Vivianna the house manager is a good communicator and did her best to see that we had a great stay. Our kids loved the media room where they chilled out with a movie after the days of river rafting, surfing and hiking and the over sized chess set in the garden.
There is a decent Mexican restaurant up the hill from the villa. if you want to cook they have a fabulous kitchen to cook in. Patricia, the cook can whip up anything you wish. If you want really healthy fish and meats ask her to grill on the BBQ otherwise everything will be sauteed.
Patricia makes a delicious plantain and serves all her meals with care and a flourish. Her steamed veggies and chicken soup were the healthiest things we ate in Costa Rica.
We would come back again for sure!

Amazing Experience

  • 5 of 5
It will be tough to top the week we had at the Villa Los Aires.
Rachel helped coordinate our excursions before our arrival as well as our transportation to and from the airport. Viviana was there to help us with anything we needed once we touched down in CR. I would strongly recommend taking advantage of the cooks on site for meals. For one thing it's a bit of a ride, 30 minutes or so to the nearest restaurant, but also because your not going to find anything better than the incredible, fresh home cooked meals Patricia and company will prepare for you. I might miss the food the most! Rachel recommended the Titi Canopy Tour, and the Catamaran tour. Both were about an hour ride from the property and big hits with my friends/family. Highly recommend them both. The property itself is very clean and the surrounding views are impressive. Very secluded, quite and peaceful. I married my girlfriend of 13 years at Villa Los Aires, with 19 guests, and we couldn't have picked a better spot. We can't wait to go back!

Good trip

  • 3 of 5
We stayed at Villa Los Aires in February 2014 for 6 nights. We had a great time. The use is beautiful and the views are breathtaking. Viviana and her husband did a great job accommodating us. They were extremely helpful and flexible with out big group of people. They did a great job cooking meals for us, and accommodating members of our group with food allergies. Viviana set up snorkeling and white water rafting trips for us, both of which we're amazing. She also recommending a certain company for zip lining which we ended up doing on our own. Again, it was an amazing time. We couldn't have asked for better caretakers.

Here are a few things people may want to consider before renting:

1. One of the rooms in the main house does not have AC.

2. The weather was beautiful. No rain, no wind, sunny days, yet the house is in the mountains of Central America which is why I think we lost power almost everyday we were there. Once we lost power for about 12 hours, but according to Viviana the whole area did. It was from approximately 10pm to 10am. It must happen pretty often since all the rooms are equip with battery powered LED light strips which was helpful. The unhelpful thing is about half of them didn't work, and none of them worked in our room. To use the bathrooms we took pool water in a 5 gallon jug and hauled it up to our rooms to fill the toilet tank. We were okay with all of this because it's all part of the adventure. But I think it would be helpful for others to know.

2. The hot water didn't work in our bedroom for the first 2 days we're were there and the cold water didn't work in the upstairs bedroom the entire time we were there.

3. The hottub didn't work while we were there which out of everything was probably the one thing we were disappointed about. The nights were cool and it was perfect hottub weather.

4. One screen in our bedroom windows was old and had tears in it. One tear was quite large.

5. The chess set was ill maintained with spider webs all over it and debris on the board.

6. Their website says the hiking trails are maintained, but they are not. There is a large waterfall pictured on their website, but the trail is no longer there. We never found it after a day of hiking.

We had a great time at Villa Los Aires. Thank you very much

Owner's Response: Lacey I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Los Aires. My apologies that there were a few difficulties during your stay. The electrical grid here in CR is occasionally prone to crashing but as you say that is part of the adventure of living in the jungle. The emergency lights in place now are all in working order. The hot water system is currently in perfect working order as is the spa. The staff tell me they were not made aware of any ongoing failures of either. The chess board has been tended and the screen replaced. We have a new gentleman taking care of the maintenance and he is attentive to the small details. I have personally hiked the trails and they well signed and accessible. We maintain one trail closed and left to overgrow as it was slippery during the rainy season and a bit challenging for a casual hiker. Our security guard is happy to escort any intrepid guest(s) on a tour of the wilds of the property. Thanks for pointing out what we could have done better. It always helps us to meet our goal of exceeding our guests expectations . Pura Vida! Stephen

Activity and Interests

The local activities include horseback tours to the Nauyaca Falls (the grandest in CR), hiking and repelling the Diamante Falls (the highest in CR), river rafting trips, ocean kayaking/snorkelling and zipline canopy tours at Hacienda Baru. There are also guided tours of the valley on horseback. The more physically fit can challenge themselves by exploring the valley roads on foot. Mt Chirripo (13,000ft) is in the Southern Zone and is a great overnight hiking trip. Scuba

and snorkelling, surfing, and whale watching (in season) are available on easy day trips. Dominical and San Isidro de el General are both 30 minutes away. We are 3.5 hours south of San Jose by well maintained highway.
