Updated: Sep 9, 2014
Villa, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 3 Sleeps

This house has been designed and built for his mother, for the

Architect Mauricio Pinto.

The house has original furnishings and designed with recycled

materials. Finished with walls of

stone, Italians tiles and Venetian.

This beautiful house is located right on the beach. The casita has

a circular mayan pool and is

surrounded by coconut palm trees making it a very relaxing

environment to enjoy a warm sunset.

the view from the pool is fantastic. You feel like you're inside the

sea.

The house has a dining room with a round table that can fit up to 9

people and is decorated with

seashells and stones that are common to the region.

Here are four big doors so that you have a great sea views and pool.

The area is decorated with a painting of the family history at the

beach from the grandparents

The kitchen is in the center of the house and is designed to fit the

whole family.

Its roof has a diamond-shaped design, decorated with lamps produced

by the Mayan . It is completely

equipped with full size refrigerator, stove with four burners, oven,

microwave, coffee pot, toaster,

blender, dishes, utensils, glasses, pans and a breakfast bar

overlooking the living room.

The casita has two bedrooms, both with ceiling fans and closets. The

front bedroom has a king size

bed, air conditioner and a beach front view in a balcony. The back

bedroom has a full size bed and

is connected

to a bathroom. The bed is constructed with two doors very old, from a

house in the historic center of

the city of Merida.

These doors are over a hundred years old.

The second bathroom has direct beach access; directly to the " Terraza las hamacas ".

Connected to the side of the house is La Terraza Lunar, or The

Moon Terrace, which is a lovely

patio decorated with palm trees, called xit in Mayan, and irises.

It offers the ideal place to

unwind after a day in the sun and admire the night sky.

The house comes with hot water and gas and TV cable ( SKY ).

the house has wireless internet

The natural beauty of the area is clear, but the inside of the house

is also decorated with the

perfect combinations of furniture and plants to create an exotic

environment, and the house is

designed so that the view of the beach can be admired from anywhere

on the inside.

The azure sea is 86 degrees in the summer months, perfect for

swimming, boogie boarding, and

shelling. The house is located at the border of a fishing town called

Chuburna, which is a non-

tourist area and it is very quiet and private. The gentle, warm ocean

is inviting and refreshing. The

cooling ocean breeze is the perfect air conditioner. Enjoy coffee or

a cold drink sitting out in the

terrace, take a stroll on the beach, read a book or just relax in a

hammock all day long.

You hardly find a house so fantastic....!!!!

We own three beach front houses in this area, and we rent all three.

Please see the other houses:

La Tintinki and La casa del Xix You're not going to find better homes in the area.

The town of Chelem description:

Chelem is a small fishing town with a calm environment which makes it

the ideal place to relax and

enjoy the sea. Chelem is known for its sandy streets, coconut palm

trees, and a multitude of animal

life including flamingos, ducks, pelicans, herons, and at the end of

a rainy day, dolphins are know

to appear across the horizon.

At lunch time in town, you can enjoy fried or steamed fish or any

other type of fresh seafood that

you can imagine. For dessert you can enjoy pie and pudding made from

the freshest of coconuts.

Chelem has a bakery, pharmacy, 4 tortilla factories for fresh daily

tortillas, several small grocery

stores, hardware stores for all your household and fishing needs, a

cell tower to stay in touch with

home as well as internet cafes in nearby Progreso.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We just came back from spending a week at La Casita de Chelem. We used it as a base for house hunting. Very gracious owners, and nice beach house. Mauricio's mother had fresh flowers and a basket of fruit waiting for us.

I did have to email Mauricio my questions several times. He is very busy and I assumed he was getting lots of email and mine were sometimes buried. He gives excellent directions from the airport to the Casita, so there are no worries about finding it.

The living room is furnished with a futon and 3 rocking chairs. The master suite has a queen bed and the second bedroom has a king (this room is beach side). The second bathroom is off the kitchen. Mauricio asked if we would like a maid to come in and we declined. That was fine with him. He just wanted us to know what was available. The dump is not far from the house, and trash pick-up supposedly was not available in the area. However, one morning a man came and asked for our garbage. He and his wife were on a three wheel bike with a basket. He took all our garbage and we tipped him well. It saved us a trip to the dump.

The terraces around the house are a plus as 3 days it was quite windy and we were able to move around the house to avoid it, but still enjoy the sun. The house has many doors and windows for fresh air. We did not use the air conditioning. In fact one night I turned off the ceiling fan and added a blanket to the bed.

The first night we were there we saw dolphins, and we were entertained every day by the pelicans and seagulls. The morning we left a large flock of flamingos flew by. They were beautiful.

We had trouble with our cell phone dropping calls and not calling through to numbers. We would get a message in Spanish, which we couldn't understand and then the call would end. Our realtor suggested buying a cell phone there and the cards to put minutes on them. We will do that when we go down to furnish our Casa.

We used the internet and it is slower than what we are used to in the U.S., but very sufficient.

We really loved staying at La Casita de Chelem.

My sad holiday

  • 4 of 5
This is NOT a place for a single women. The door's are too easy to be compromised. You MUST have a car. Too far away from everything. The house itself is nice but do understand you pay for everything. The beach was not nice . But I was told it was because of previous storms. The weather was always awesome but windy. I was to stay for the month of January but as a single women I did not feel safe and went home a week and a half early. It was to be my dream vacation . I am very sad about this. Pinto's are very nice people.

Best vacation ever

  • 5 of 5
The place is great and tremendously well located. We had great weather for the week we were there, approximately 38 degrees daily with a nice constant breeze from the gulf.

We enjoyed our daily swim in the private pool and the gulf of Mexico warm water. We had a view of the beach directly from our bedroom, great view.

The place is well equipped with the exception of a laundry and dryer.

We did not have air conditioning and we did not need one given the constant breeze that comes from the gulf during the day and the night.

The owner is really nice and will do everything to accommodate your needs and make your stay a lifetime experience that you will remember forever.

Great vacation overall. We miss Casita Del Chelem!!!

The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5
Wow what a beach house! My wife & I have not taken a vacation in over 3 years until the Casa de Chelem. We found it very relaxing and just what the doctor ordered.
Mauricio was a fabulous host along with his father.
The town of Chelem was fantastic to visit and we found the people very friendly and helpful.
Make sure to visit Taco Mayo by the ballpark, many ex-pats and great food. The Casa de Chelem was the perfect base camp for a vast amount of trips, the only problem is there was not enough time, so we are already planning an longer vist towards the end of the year. And of coarse, back to Casa de Chelem.

Thanks Mauricio and family!

A home away from home, a fabulous beach house,

  • 5 of 5
We thouroughly enjoyed this wonderful house and pool and of course the Gulf.
A very relaxing and enjoyable vacation. Loved watching the local fishermen coming and going each day. The sunsets were superb!
Close enough to Progresso and Merida for visits there and shopping.
Particularly enjoyed the Sunday Market in Merida and the entertainment.
Would recommend this type of holiday to those looking for peace and quiet and the ambiance of a very interesting and well equipped beach house.
Cynthia and Barry and thanks to son Stephen who made it all possible.

The house was everything and more....

  • 5 of 5
Mauricio sent us a ton of pictures before we arrived. We were very anxious; the house just seemed too good to be true! We were amazed and surprised daily by the quality of this house, the compound (3 beautiful houses on a large lot) and most of all the Pinto family. We felt like their personal guests from the moment we made contact. Amazing people, they touch and change your life!
My husband spent a better part of the first day just admiring the details inside the house and around the property! My quest was to eat every coconut I could reach from the lush palm garden. My 6 year old daughter was mezmerized by the art in the dining room!
We spent the rest of our time trying to figure out what fabulous destination to hit (all of which were graciously recommended by Mauricio. Again, that feeling of having a local connection! We cooked daily and it was a joy to eat the fresh catch, literally caugtht outside our door! The house was appointed with every detail in mind.
I am Mexican born and raised, never having been to the Yucatan peninsula, I was blown away by it. Chelem is a "quaint" village. You blink and you miss it. Once you get to La Casita, the scenery changes to a paradise! Chelem was practically deserted in January and you definately need a car to get around. For those of you who have been to old Cabo or Mazatlan, Progresso has that feel. We ate, shopped and strolled the promenade and it is a fully functioning town. Merida of course was magestic. I will never forget the feeling of belonging there. Clean, organized, diverse and very charming. Plus, my Italian-born husband claims he had the best Gelato..outside of Italy! 6 days was not enought to take in all the local sights! There is a sense of mystic everywhere! I will never forget this place and long to be at La Casida de Chelem everyday!

Wonderful Beach House!

  • 5 of 5
We used La Casita de Chelem as a base for house hunting. It is a cozy beach home, and the owners are very gracious. They had fresh flowers and a basket of fruit waiting for us when we arrived, which we enjoyed all week.

Mauricio gives excellent directions, along with photos of road signs, from the airport to the Casita. There are no worries about finding it. He also includes tips of places to go sightseeing. You will need a rental car to get around the area. It takes about 10 minutes to get to Progreso if you want to do some Walmart-type shopping, but try the little markets in Chelem.

The casita was very clean and had everything we needed. We alternated between cooking at the Casita and eating at some local restaurants.

The living room is furnished with a futon and three rocking chairs. There is a television and we were able to find some English speaking channels. We also used the wireless internet service which was more than adequate for our needs.

The beds were very comfortable, and there was plenty of closet space. The master suite has a queen bed and the second bedroom has a king (this room is beach side, and you can hear the surf all night~wonderful!). The second bathroom is off the kitchen. The house has many doors and windows for fresh air. We did not use the air conditioning. Actually, there was such a nice breeze off the Gulf that one night I turned off the ceiling fan and added a blanket to the bed.

The terraces around the house are a plus, as sometimes it was quite windy and we were able to move around the house to avoid it, but still enjoy the sun. There is a nice pool for cooling off if you get too warm.

The first night we were there we saw dolphins, and we were entertained every day by the pelicans and seagulls. The sunrises and sunsets are lovely. The morning we left several large flocks of beautiful flamingos flew by.

We enjoyed our stay very much!
