Wonderful Pinecrest cabin!!
From the Owner
“We have vacationed for many years at Pinecrest, it has a special spot in our family history. The cabin is also used by our extended family, which is why we cannot take reservations for next year's season until after January 1.”
Activity and Interests
Kid-friendly beach and clear clean lake water for swimming, boating and fishing; nightly outdoor movies or ranger talks under the stars; back country access to the Emigrant Basin Wilderness Area and other high Sierras hiking, rock climbing, trout fishing, horse-back riding, bike trails, caving, golf and winter sports.
Redcedar Cabin is a private place, backing up to the forested Pinecrest Ridge. But within a few blocks are the Steam Donkey Restaurant, Pinecrest Lake Marina, Sport Shop, Grocery Store, Post Office, Pinecrest Hub Bike Rental, Serene Bean Coffee Bar and lakeside Snack Bar (with great hamburgers, fries and soft ice cream cones!) The Pinecrest Theater and campfire area on the shore of Pinecrest Lake offers outdoor family movies and ranger talks from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The boat marina offers motorboat, paddleboat, kayak, sailboat and party boat rentals. Pinecrest Lake is stocked on a weekly basis with rainbow trout.
Aspen Meadows (10 minutes away) and Kennedy Meadows (35 minutes) offer horses and pack mules, ideally suited to carry you and your gear over any terrain. The drive to Kennedy Meadows takes you through breathtakingly beautiful mountains climaxing a few miles east pof the Meadows at the Sonora Pass.
Hiking and backpacking: two wilderness areas are located within 15 minutes of the cabin. These protected areas offer 280 miles of world-class hiking trails with hikes ranging from easier half-day treks to challenging all-day adventures. Find sub-alpine meadows and glorious crystalline glacial lakes in the Emigrant Basin Wilderness on the south side of Highway 108. The Carson-Iceberg Wilderness on the north side of the highway has fewer lakes, but greater solitude with fewer annual visitors. The famous Pacific Crest Trail can be accessed at Sonora Pass (9,600 feet elevation) about 35 miles east of Pinecrest. Most of these trails are located at high elevation, and can be reached only during the summer and early fall seasons. For more information, visit the US Forest Service at the Pinecrest turnoff from Hiway 108.
Mountain bike trails include many singletrack downhill routes, fireroad climbs, and abandoned railroad beds. Signature rides include Gianelli Cabin Trailhead to Pinecrest (8,200 feet elevation) and Pinecrest to Twain Harte (3,600 feet elevation). Mountain bikes and safety gear can be rented at the Pinecrest Hub at Pinecrest Lake. For more information, visit the US Forest Service.
Rock climbers will find a variety of granite wall routes and bouldering problems in the Emigrant Wilderness Area. The northwest face of Burst Rock boasts a wide range of spectacular climbing routes located approximately one hour from Pinecrest.
Boating, kayaking and river rafting: Kayaks, low-horsepower motor boats and larger “party boats” are available for rental at the Pinecrest Marina. Experience peace and tranquility in a kayak at beautiful Pinecrest Lake Pinecrest. Also, 4–5 hour Stanislaus River rafting trips originate out of Knights Ferry (east of Oakdale) and offer access to beautiful scenery and wildlife and stops at a number of public parks.
Golf: Mountain Springs Golf Club is located 40 minutes from Pinecrest, and enjoy an 18-hole championship course designed by Robert Muir Graves in the heart of the Gold Country and the Sierra Nevada foothills. The nearby Twain Harte Golf Club also offers a lighter 9-hole course surrounded by towering pines.
Cave expeditions, spelunking & zip lines: Just outside of Columbia State Park, Moaning Cavern Adventure Park offers underground cave exploration and zip lines. In San Andreas you'll find California Cavern State Historic Landmark, offering cave expeditions ranging from short underground walking tours to half day spelunking trips.
Winter sports: At Redcedar Cabin you're minutes from an affordable family ski and snowboarding experience atDodge Ridge Wintersports Area—the closest ski resort to the Bay Area. With more than 60 total runs and 12 total lifts across more than 800 acres, Dodge Ridge is a complete alpine experience where 1,600 vertical feet descend from an 8,200-foot summit.
Sledding, nordic skiing, and snow-shoeing adventure also abounds right outside our door at Pinecrest. Bring your own gear or rent locally. Many families spend the day on the snow-covered, mostly-empty western basin of Pinecrest Lake or cross-country skiing on the snow-covered roads of the vacant Pinecrest campground or the volunteer-groomed trails just below Dodge Ridge (see map in cabin). Also, just 6 miles past Pinecrest is Leland Meadows Snowplay offers groomed sledding and tubing runs, youth snowmobiles and a dining lodge.
