Nice but we prefer to control the thermostat

  • 3 of 5
The home is very nice. It is in a quiet non-touristy neighborhood location. It has nice touches and is pleasing to the eye. It was as advertised. It was reasonably well maintained. The price was very good and it was nicely sized for a couple or small family. It was so easy to get to some many really good locations from here. We enjoyed the little town as well as several of the nearby beaches and towns from Tarpon Springs to Dunedin, and Clearwater. We didn't run out of things to do.
We had a few questions for the owners and they responded swiftly and politely. Good customer service.
In all our years of staying in vacation homes from Maine to Florida, we've never, ever stayed anywhere that had a locked thermostat. The day we arrived it was very warm and we would have like to put on the air for a bit. No such luck. As is the case in Florida this time of the year, it is not unusual for the temperature to vary widely within a week. By the end of the week we needed heat. But we couldn't turn it on either when needed. It was on a schedule and it went off at night. One day the regulator failed and we had to call to ask for heat. To be fair, the owner responded swiftly and the heat was back on when we returned that evening. Still, the next morning we awoke to a very chilly 64 degrees because the heat isn't timed to come on until 7:30 a.m. I'm sure the owner's control of the thermostat is based on bad experiences they had from people who didn't care. But we felt this should have been stated in the rental agreements or clearly communicated. We would have paid more or stayed elsewhere. When you are on vacation you like to be comfortable.
If you can handle the thermostat issue, I'd recommend this place. Oh, and bring your own pillows.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments on our home. We do state clearly on our site that our Air and Heat are set, and cannot be changed up or down. It is set by our local energy providers guide lines and works for most people. They are zoned to go up and down throughout a 24 hr period to ensure maximum comfort.
This is done by a lot of owners to protect themselves from the renters who abuse their hospitality. A frozen compressor due to air being turned down so low is very, very expensive to replace. It also states it is set on our rental agreements.
We will check out our pillows ! thanks
3/ 14 Just called our current renters and asked them if they found our pillows okay. They said they were fine for them.

Wonderful Downtown home

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I just spent 2 weeks at the Jays in Palm Harbor. Every day I biked 5 minutes to get the paper and read it on the screened in porch. We walked to events in Palm Harbor and enjoyed sunsets at the causeway a short 5 minute drive from the house. It was a great vacation. I had some questions during the 2 weeks that Gaye was able to answer. One day as we were loading the bikes to ride the bike trail (5 minute bike ride) we accidently locked ourselves out of the house. We called Gaye and left for our ride. When we got back an hour later the house was open. Thanks, Gaye.

Best area we have stayed

  • 5 of 5
We come every year to this part of Florida. We have normally stayed on Clearwarer beach. This year we tried something different and was really please we did. This place was great, we could walk downtown where there was good restaurants etc. The area was nice and relaxing but close to everything. The local becahes were actually as nice as Clearwater but much quieter.
I will certainly be back and recommend this this anybody

Having a vacation home for our first family vacation in Florida was definitely the way to go. The convienience, privacy, room to relax and take a break from 'vacationing' was just what our young enegetic family needed. While the weather wasn't great during this record setting winter, we still managed to enjoy the bbq, hot tub, and with a 2 year old, the fenced in yard was definitely an appreciated asset.
Should we take another vacation in the area we will certianly be contacting Gaye and Paul to see if they have one of their places available.

Gaye & Paul:
A note to let you know we really enjoyed our stay in Florida. It was a little warm & humid, but sunny everyday. Renting a house is a lot nicer than being stuck in a hotel room. The area of The Jay's House is really nice. Out of the "main stream" but close enough to walk to a restaurant. The Property was just as described on the internet--no surprises. Thank you and thanks for the wine!
