House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 8 Sleeps

This beautiful secluded home is located on the Pine River, Michigan's premiere paddlesports and trout fishing river. It is designated a "National Wild & Scenic River" and a "Blue Ribbon Trout Stream." The spacious front deck is 30 feet from the water's edge; the wall of windows facing the river affords a fantastic view of the river and the wildlife that call it home. The area teems with wildlife . . . eagles searching for trout, numerous species of waterfowl and furbearers, and the large and small game species, the wildlife viewing opportunities never end.

The living room, dining room, & kitchen have 1/4-log pine walls and a knotty pine cathedral ceiling. The comfortable loft overlooks the river and is furnished as a second living room or visiting room. There are 3 bedrooms, an office with a desk, and 2 full baths. There are 2 queen beds, 2 twin-size beds, and a queen-size sleeper couch. The extra room off from the garage has 2 twin-size beds and a ½ bath. This room is carpeted and finished off in knotty pine. Not Worth It

This cottage is definitely appealing to the eyes, it has a nice set up and a few good ammenities. However, the air conditioning doesn't work at all... and I think one of the owners came into the cottage and turned the air off while we were away from the house. I guess trying to save money? Don't expect any privacy either because the owners live 60 yards away and will be paying close attention to everything you do and everyone who is there. I had a couple friends from Cadillac stop by for a couple of hours and the owners charged me $## per person for the visit. I didn't read the portion online that said visitors are only $## / person until I signed in to write this review. (they charged me more than double the amount, but I can't show you the figures due to site guidelines). So beware! They will nickle and dime you! Oh, and they didn't even tell me they were charging me... it just showed up on my credit card with no explanation. Staying here was definitely not worth the hassle. We unloaded a few things into the garage the first day of arrival and left to go into town. While we were gone the owners dog ate my birthday cake, even though the owner said they would put the dog away since our stuff was there. The owner must have found the remains because the plastic housing and everything was missing! Now thats some honesty! Eat my birthday cake and over charge me! Lets see what else, one of the toilets wouldn't work in the Spare bedroom, and the upstairs shower didn't drain so well... so we showered in a pool of still water. Yuck. Oh, and its not so quick to get to Cadillac. About a 30-45 min if you take the dirt roads and longer if you try to avoid them. Good luck and hope you find a better place to stay! There are definitely cheaper ones out there that would have been a better experience.

Owner's Response: Nobody appreciates surprises when they are enjoying a vacation. We have operated this vacation rental since 2005 with absolutely no complaints, and only high reviews with many guests returning year after year. Our prices are clearly written out on the rates page, and the Rental Agreement that each guest signs explains the "visitor fee". On the other hand, when a guest tells me how many guests will be staying, and then adds a few more, then surely the rate should be and is adjusted.

I value my privacy, and in turn also respect the privacy of our guests. I can honestly tell you that I did not enter the home, and would not enter the home, while guests are away.

Where does our description of the home say we have air conditioning? We do not have air conditioning in this home, and so I could not have turned it off as you say.

I guess one unhappy guest, who wanted to have a few more friends join for nothing, is not so bad out of the hundreds that we have had the pleasure of getting acquainted with.

I'm sorry this guest did not enjoy our home on the Pine River, or the river-side fire ring, or the beautiful decks, etc. It sounds like he is aware of nicer homes for less, and that is fine, I do not apologize for my rates.

Thank you for the opportunity to reply to this unsatisfied guest.
