House, 4 Bedrooms, 4.5 Baths, 10 Sleeps
Come visit the other side of Destin, the bay side. Lion Gate is a lovely, bayfront estate in downtown Destin. The house is 3600 square feet on two floors, most rooms have water views. It sits on over an acre of land, the front full of moss hung oaks. The back of the house has a screened in patio and pool, with water views. There are lounge chairs, two umbrellas, two tables, a gas grill and a Weber grill on the patio. Down by the waterside is a 100' x 25' deck with a huge picnic table on one side and chaise lounges and an umbrella on the other side. There is a 200 foot dock, a covered boat house, a sunning deck, and jet ski lifts. Bring your boat or your jet skis, the house is very near a municipal boat launch and you can put your boat in the water for $10 in and then $10 out. It would take minutes to get your boat in the water and to the house where it can be available right out back for your entire stay. (The water here is quite shallow at times so the boathouse would not work for a sailboat or deep draft boat, although guests have anchored out a little way and come in to the boathouse on a smaller boat.) There is crabbing and fishing from the dock.
The house has 4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, a den, a formal living room, a formal dining room, an eat-in kitchen. There is a separate small house out by the pool that has a sofa that pulls out to a queen sized bed, it can be used as a fifth bedroom, perfect for older kids or teens. Two of the bedrooms are downstairs, both have ensuite baths and king sized beds. The other two bedrooms are upstairs with one bathroom between them and a small sitting area, one has a king sized bed and the other has a queen. All of the bedrooms have tv, as does the den, the kitchen and the little poolside house. The house is wireless so bring your laptop, the den and master bedroom have extended cable channels and music choice. The house was my primary residence until recently and I have left all of my beautiful things for you to enjoy, it is not a typical vacation rental, it is a lovely place to enjoy gracious living bay side.
This house is located in Destin about 3 minutes by car to all the harbor nightlife and fabulous restaurants, and about 4 minutes by car to the beach. There is a seasonal pass to Henderson Beach that stays at the house for your use. Lion Gate is the perfect house for 2 families, the parents downstairs and the kids up. It is also perfect for 3 or 4 couples (3 couples would have complete separate privacy, the third couple having the upstairs to themselves). When I stated that the house sleeps 8 people, that is 8 people in 4 bedrooms with large, comfortable beds, no pull outs or bunk beds or futons.
I think you will love this side of Destin, with it's beautiful views, quiet, and complete privacy. Lounging by the pool or down by the water, looking at the bay from your own backyard, no tourists walking by, just you and the people you are with.

Vacationing at its Finest!!! Love, Love, Love!
Perfect Spot for a Destin Family Vacation
Let me start with the location. Just outside of the hustle and congestion of Hwy 98, large lot with oak trees, right on the bay. What more could you need? Using the back roads was so much nicer than getting stuck in the awful Hwy 98 traffic. Sunsets and sunrises over the bay, cool breezes, and peaceful evenings.
The house itself is amazing. Tastefully decorated but still feels very comfortable. We were all at ease immediately. Very large bedrooms with tremendous closet space. Our son inflated his queen sized air mattress in one of the closets, that's how large they are. The kitchen and bathrooms are stocked with everything you could need. Extra towels, blankets, and sheets are available. We have never stayed in a condo that was as well stocked from top to bottom as this house is. The owner sincerely wants to make your stay enjoyable. My father likes his quiet space, so the pool house worked great for him. Cute and cozy. We had friends over for dinner one night and wanted for nothing to prepare our pasta meal. The beautiful candles on the tables made the evening extra nice. Cooking burgers and hotdogs was easy because there is even charcoal provided for the grill! The pool area has lounge chairs, umbrellas, beach towels, pool toys, and sunscreen. The kids were swimming day and night. The blender from the kitchen yielded some tasty pina coladas, too!
We were needlessly worried about the water depth for our boat. It draws about 2 feet of water but we could pull it up to the dock at low tide. Other bay side house rentals couldn't accommodate our boat, but Lion Gate could! Our brother-in-law's jet ski fit easily into the lift, making it convenient to use whenever the mood struck. If you love having a private dock for your vacation, this house is for you. The kids delighted catching crab off the dock, and my husband caught redfish and trout. Need to bring our kayaks next time. In our boat, it took about 10 minutes to get to crab island. Jones Bayou boat launch is a beautiful facility and easily accessible. There was plenty of parking space at the house for our 3 trucks, mini van, jet ski trailer, and boat trailer.
In short, our family of seniors, adults, teenage boys, and toddlers all loved this house. We'll never rent a condo in Destin again as long as Lion Gate is available.
Activity and Interests
Destin has all sorts of attractions beyond the gorgeous beaches. Be sure to try some of our water sports including parasailing, jet skiing, boating, and deep sea fishing, to name a few. Then there is the favorite local pastime of spending a day hanging out on your boat at Crab Island. Shopping is great in Destin, don't miss Smith's Antiques, Destin Commons, and the outlet mall. There are fabulous restuarants all along the harbor and if you love a tiki bar don't miss AJ's on a Sunday for the shrimp boil and live music. Big Kahuna's, the local waterpark is three minutes away.
Down the road a little to the east is a new outdoor mall, Destin Commons, full of shops and restaurants and a great movie theatre. A little further east is Baytowne Wharf, a planned community patterned after the French Quarter in New Orleans, it has tons of picturesque shops and restaurants. Keep going down Highway 98 eastward and there is a new upscale shopping/restaurant complex called Grand Boulevard, it has shops and 5 or 6 high end restuarants including a Tommy Bahamas. You may want to plan a day to go even farther down and check out Grayton Beach and Seaside, two very charming beach front communities with shopping and art galleries and great restaurants. Try The Red Bar in Grayton Beach or Bud and Alleys in Seaside.
Best of all is just relaxing and enjoying the house, pool and beautiful view with your family and friends.
