We stayed at the cabin the first weekend in October. Yes the driveway is steep, but we managed just fine. My family loves this place! First, I really enjoyed talking with Patti, who is very nice. The cabin was clean and well taken care of. Our dogs sure did love adventuring around the property and going down the trail and to the water. It is a beautiful area that the cabin is in, peaceful, but yet not far from Boone and other areas. We only stayed two nights and wish we would have stayed at least a week. We plan on going back to the cabin. I have recommended this place to my friends. I can't wait to go back!!!!! Patti, thanks for sharing your wonderful place!!!

Cabin Not Ready

  • 1 of 5
Not a good way to start your family vacation when you pull up to your cabin just to find the housekeeper's car (and kids, and significant other) there. Phone call to owner made things even worse as she did not want to take any responsibility for the fact that her cabin wasn't ready for our reservation. Beds were not comfortable and squeaky, sofa bed in loft needs to be replaced, kitchen needs more lighting. - but lack of customer service skills/empathy on the owner's part is what killed it for us.

Owner's Response: I was wondering when you were going to get around to posting a response...
I didn't think you were the type to "let it go"...
No, the cabin was not ready. My housekeeper was running a little behind. Had to pick up her daughter from school and take her with her to the cabin to clean. No other children, no significant other, just my housekeeper and her daughter.
I did apologize for the 20 minutes it took housekeeping to finish up. And apologized and apologized...to no avail....you demanded a free night...
You were unreasonable with me and rude to my housekeeper and I will not tolertate such behavior.
If you suffered through your vacation due to a little set back, that is a shame.
I have had many happy guests and repeat customers over the years.
My houskeeper and I work very hard to keep the cabins clean and in good condition. It is a challenge with some of my "not so responsible" guests. But we plug along..."Thank you" to those of you who appreciate a 3 bedroom cabin on 2 1/2 acres bordering the National Forest and close to everything you could possibly want to do in Boone and Blowing Rock for $125 per night!!

Great time

Cabin was just as described. Sitting out by the fire at night, shopping an hiking the trails in the day. Our dog had the best time. We would love to come back.

Beautiful cabin - excellent location

  • 5 of 5
This is a lovely cabin in the woods - great deck and close to lots of great hiking and beautiful parks-also you feel like you are in the wilderness but Boone and Blowing Rock are both very close if you need something. We were a group of 8 - four adults and four kids - it was cozy but there was enough space to spread out and have a little privacy. The description is accurate and the cabin was clean and well maintained. The heat, hot water, and appliances all in good working condition. Our kids loved the outdoor campfire ring! The owner is very helpful and friendly, sent us perfect instructions for finding the cabin by e-mail and talked to us several times when we had questions. There is a useful binder in the kitchen with suggestions and maps - lots of wonderful places to visit close by including Grandfather Mountain and Linville Gorge. The driveway is steep but was totally drive-able for us with a 2 wheel drive car. Phone reception is not great and no wi-fi -perfect for really getting away from it all! One potential problem for a large group - the queen couch bed is a fine couch but not a great bed... The price seemed very reasonable for such a beautiful location! We would love to come back!

Beautiful & Secluded, Yet Close Enough to Everything

Beautiful & Secluded, Yet Close Enough to Everything
  • 5 of 5
This place is very secluded, yet close enough to civilization and all the outdoor activities.

Note that if you are AT&T, there is no signal in this place. The one person in our party who had a signal had Sprint as his provider.

The falls right across the street from the cabin already provided hours of hiking and activities. This place is also pet friendly. Activities that we enjoyed: ziplining, Grandfather Mountain, rock climbing & rapelling, & hiking.

The price is very reasonable. There were six adults and one teenager in our party, and two dogs, and we were comfortable in the cabin. I had no problems communicating with the owner, both via email and phone.

We only had some minor inconveniences: the cabin doesn't have sufficient lighting in the kitchen and no garbage bin was provided. The only lighting in the kitchen was the overhead stove light. Because there were six of us, we filled the trash bag everyday, and had to haul the trash to a dumpster ourselves. It wasn't really bad, since we would do it in the morning, when we'd leave the cabin for some activity.

Other than these two inconveniences, we enjoyed our stay very much. The place has no air conditioning, but, with the cool weather, there was no need for any. The driveway is steep, but very manageable. I brought my Chevy Cobalt (a four cylinder car) to the cabin and it had no problems going up the driveway.

I would definitely recommend this place to friends and relatives.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review.
Unfortunately the local waste management stopped pick up at our address years ago. They decided it was an inconvenience to pick up as we were the only house on the street paying for sevice. I would love to be able to have trash pick up again. We use a dumpster sit on 321 not too far away. And yes, easy enough to do in the morning on your way out. We put it in the trunk and TRY not to forget it's there!!

Amazing Retreat

  • 5 of 5
We spent 2 nights at the cabin and it was amazing! The description was accurate, the location was quiet and secluded yet close to Boone & Blowing Rock and the amenities were exactly as described. The driveway is steep but if you follow the instructions and use low gear, there is no problem. The cabin was clean and cozy. Having linens provided was a huge plus! The owner was easy to get in touch with and willing to accommodate early check in.
We went to Blowing Rock and enjoyed Halloween festivities in the park and watched fudge being made at Kilwin's. We also went to Linville Caverns (about a 30 min drive) and Gem Mining in Boone(lots of fun with kids!). The best time we had though was on the last day when we went walking on the trail across from the cabin. It's about a 10 min walk to a stream and then we followed it up to the amazing Hebron Falls - huge rocks that we climbed almost to the top of the falls. We can't wait to go back!
