This is a relatively new (2008) three bedroom home with a bonus TV room on the banks of the historic Guadalupe River just a few miles downstream from the Canyon Lake dam. It's located right off of FM 306, with easy access from U.S. 281 or IH 35. Plenty of Room & Amenities

Plenty of Room & Amenities
  • 5 of 5
I rented this house with a group of my friends for a yearly river tubing vacation. We are all late 20s/early 30s, some with toddlers and babies - so neither an overly rowdy young crowd, nor overly laid back older crowd, and this place fit our needs just perfectly. I've spent quite a bit of time over the years looking for rentals that had plenty of space to accommodate a large group, and not only is this one of the better options I've found, but it's extremely reasonably priced for what you're getting.

Most of the rentals that are in close proximity to those looking to spend a weekend at the river or on the lake are, to put it nicely - dumpy, because they are assuming they'll get a young, rowdy, disrespectful crowd. And many of those places are twice the price of the Beehive. The Beehive is nice, clean, new, and well put together - not dumpy like most of the rentals available close by. It's twice as nice and half the price - seems like an obvious choice to me.

The Beehive is great for the most obvious reasons - 4 bedrooms, full kitchen (which btw, is stocked with plenty of extra stuff that you'd normally expect to have to bring yourself - paper towels, garbage bags, oils, spices, sugar, coffee, creamer, plastic cups, matches, toilet paper, etc... so you are probably in luck even if you forget a few basic items.) But in addition to the more obvious factors of space to accomodate multiple guests - it also has multiple levels of decks (each with nice seating, great to eat dinner or have a glass of wine at) a propane grill, a hammock, a fire pit, MORE seating down by the fire pit and water, a canoe, a deck that goes right down to water, board games, washing machine, multiple bathrooms, a trampoline for kids (both young and old ;) a kids jungle gym - the list goes on. The river access was also great, and this sits on a really large, nicely manicured, convenient piece of land.... I wish we'd been able to spend an extra day because it was really convenient to just walk right into the river off the deck and float in an uncluttered part of the river while friends sat at the table and chairs (there is literally seating everywhere you go on this property.)

Location is also great - if the guys with you aren't lazy (which means you're luckier than us) you can easily walk right up to any of the tube rental places... it was right down the road. Even if you feel the need to drive, it's about 1.5 minutes at most.

Thank you, Beehive!

Owner's Response: Wow! Thanks so much! I couldn't have said it better! But then again I'm biased. You amazingly captured the essence of the BeeHive: a comfortable (not dumpy!) house with wonderful amenities that allow you to enjoy the bounties of the Hill Country and the Guadalupe River! It is the PERFECT place to enjoy the river with your friends and family. I hope you'll come back!

BeeHive on the Guadalupe River

  • 5 of 5
The BeeHive is a beautiful home on the upper Guadalupe river just below the Canyon lake dam. The home looks and feels like it was recently built with rounded corners and the kitchen is fully equipped with granite countertops and flows right into the family room. Wifi internet access and flat screen TV is a plus. The access to the river is convenient and feels very private. Most of the tubing activity is downstream so we had this piece of the river to ourselves. If you prefer to float the river with the masses, river access and outfitters are within 2 miles. The bedrooms sleep 3 couples comfortably and there is space for at least another couple or 5 children. This is a fantastic river house for a 1 or 2 family vacation.

Owner's Response: You sound like a real estate agent! You really paid attention to the details of the house and its surroundings. It is recently built (2010)and it does have some nice amenities that older houses don't have. For instance, as you said, the granite counter tops, WiFi access and flat screen TV in the living room. Thanks so much for your wonderful review. We are so glad you stayed here and even more gratified that you had such a good time and enjoyed the things the house has to offer. We think it's a great place to be and I'm glad you agree!

Great Place for a Group

  • 5 of 5
We rented this great house on the river instead of boring hotel rooms for our small church youth group. It was just perfect. The kids had a blast in the river and we cooked our own meals together. A great porch for the adults to sit and supervise. Everybody that went felt that being able to stay together at the house was one of the best parts of our trip. It ended up being less expensive than the hotels, especially since we didn't have to eat out all the time. The owner was really nice and great at communicating before we got there. We spent one day at a local water park and then some time in San Antonio as well. It was a bit of a drive, but not bad at all. We will book this place again when we are headed that direction.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for staying at the BeeHive and thanks for your nice review! I think you said it all when you wrote that you can save money by renting a house and cooking some meals there. And what precious family time that can be as well! I wish we had more nice groups like yours who knew about the BeeHive and the wonderful Guadalupe River and all the area has to offer. It is truly a place to escape.

Perfect place to enjoy the river and the lake

  • 5 of 5
This is the perfect place to enjoy the beautiful things the New Braunfels/ Canyon Lake area has to offer. It is right on the river and a short drive to the lake. The house has everything you need to feel at home. We spent the majority of our time outside looking at the beautiful views. The older kids rode in the canoe and fished. The little kids jumped on the trampoline and played on the play ground. At night we gathered around the campfire. It was a perfect time and I have already scheduled another trip back.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you had a great experience at the BeeHive! Thanks for letting future guests know what great amenities we have. And I think you summed up the BeeHive experience well! It's all about being outdoors and enjoying the beauty and serenity of the Texas Hill Country and the Guadalupe River. Who wouldn't want to spend their days and evenings outside under towering trees next to the river or on the deck grilling for the family? And I'm glad you enjoyed the new stone fire pit I built down by the river. I thought folks would enjoy a fire and roasting marshmallows on pleasant evenings. Thanks again for visiting and we hope you'll come back soon!

Perfect Texas Hill Country Vacation

  • 5 of 5
The BeeHive was a great place for our vacation! We drove all the way from Colorado to enjoy the beauty of the river and the hill country. The house is spacious and has everything you need to feel at home. The canoe was so fun to just take out and paddle along the peaceful river. We were so close to San Antonio and Austin we were able to take day trips to visit family and friends. You really have it all when you stay at the BeeHive!

Owner's Response: Carrie from Colorado!
Thanks for staying at the BeeHive! We enjoyed having your family stay at the house. It is a beautiful part of the river and it's nice that someone from the beautiful state of Colorado would even appreciate it!
And I'm glad you were able to enjoy the amenities at the house. It's nice anytime of the year to take the canoe out. In the summer you may run into some friendly tubers and the rest of the year it's nice, quiet paddling. It's even good for fishing since there are parts of the river near our banks that are fairly deep at all times.
The decks at the BeeHive are also popular. There's grilling and relaxing from the porch that surrounds the house on three sides to the expansive deck below. Then there's a deck below that and three tables down by the riverside.
Come back again, Carrie from Colorado, and we'll show you a Texas good time!

A Real Spring Break Treat

  • 5 of 5
Awesome location with everything we needed for our second Spring break weekend with our friends and their kids at this same house. The place is very comfortable and homy. There are many activities in the backyard exactly like what the owner describes that we can all play. The boating along the clean and peaceful Guadalupe River with birds chirping in the trees is such a relaxing and joyable treat. We also enjoy fishing and strolling at the Canyon Lake Dam area, which is only 2 minutes' drive away from the house. We saw dozens of deer at dawn and dusk in the lake area....
The owner is very friendly and has provided excellent directions to the property and things we need to bring. Many thanks! We will be back!

Owner's Response: Lily, I couldn't have said it better myself! You're one of our repeat visitors so we must be doing something right. That's what we try to bring to the BeeHive: relaxation and recreation. Whether you want to sit by the river and enjoy some quiet time in the sun or the shade, or take the canoe for the spin and return for some games in the yard, we have it.
The BeeHive is a Guadalupe River Retreat for the family especially. The house is suited for up to three families with adults in the bedrooms and kids bunking in the TV room. Here, everyone finds something to do that they enjoy, whether that's grilling out on one of the many decks, home cooking a meal inside or just enjoying a beverage of your choice by the river. In the Summer or in the Winter there's something to do at the BeeHive!

Notes:

  • This home offers too many amenities to mention, but let me try: *NO CAN BAN. You can float the "horseshoe" in this area and not worry about the New Braunfels city ban on disposable containers. *YES, THERE IS ALWAYS WATER IN THE RIVER HERE! Our water comes from below Canyon Dam and so it's always flowing to downstream users so there's always water here. It may not flow very fast at times, but it's there. So while the Guadalupe may have dried up ABOVE the lake, water will continue to flow BELOW the lake until it's drained. Hopefully that won't ever happpen. *Direct waterfront access to the Guadalupe River. Right off our banks you can tube, canoe, kayak or just plop a chair down and relax in the most beautiful of Texas Rivers. Giant Cypress trees line the bank at this shady retreat. The house sits on high ground. There are 51 steps from an upper deck down to the river level. *Decks aplenty! The porch high above the Guadalupe has a covered wrap-around cement deck that offers the chance to relax and enjoy a beverage amidst the trees. Below that, a wooden deck features a patio table and chairs and a large bench for relaxing. The propane gas grill nearby means you can grill your dinner and serve it al fresco! Another level down there's an eight-foot wooden bar overlooking the river. Pull up the bench and have beer or dinner. Then, down by the river, there's another pavestone deck with two tables where you can relax as the tubers (or the ducks!) float by. Plus, there's a picnic table near the river as well! *Recreation for the Kids! This home features a 16-foot trampoline with pads and side nets for your enjoyment as well as a wooden play structure with swings, a slide and a fort. *Games: Come here to play! We have a full size volleyball net that is set up (bring your own ball), a croquet set on the porch that you can take out and even Hillbilly Horseshoes (otherwise known as ladder golf). Come here to play and have fun! *Can you Canoe? We have a canoe with paddles by the river. You are free to take it on the water at your own risk. ***As you can see, this is a FAMILY home in a FAMILY neighborhood. Noise and excessive guests at any time of the day will not be tolerated. No more than FOUR vehicles may be parked at the house. Neighbors WILL call the sheriff's department if there is excess noise and we will do an 11pm drive-by on weekend nights to count the number of cars and check for noise. We want you to have a good time here, but this home is designed for families and responsible adults. Complaints about behavior, noise or vehicles may result in the entire or partial loss of your damage deposit. Thank you for your consideration!******
