Hopkins House fronts the Assateague Channel toward a much-photographed view of the lighthouse. The two upstairs bedrooms offer twin beds and light, breeze, and more views. The cozy living room (which seats eight) opens onto an enclosed front porch with built-in daybeds for viewing sunrise, sunset, and wildlife.... and napping. The eat-in kitchen adjoins the rear deck for afternoon sun. Dock for crabbing, kayaking, small boat mooring....meditation and dreaming.
Note: For larger groups, consider renting #65506, 'Cute 1950s Cottage' --which is right next door-- along with this property. Have your own family compound!
We returned to Hopkins House after having spent Pony Penning weeks from 1971 to 1980 with our extended family in this house. Our older sons (now 32 and 29) "grew up" in this house and have many wonderful memories here. While the home has changed (for the better!) the cottage charm remains. It was a wonderful week. We wish all who stay here refreshment and rejuvenation!
Crab, fish, or launch your kayak from the dock. Paddle through the winding waterways in the marsh out to Assateague Channel. Enjoy the rear deck with your morning coffee, and the front sunporch for your afternoon nap. Or watch the birds and other wildlife in the marsh. Memorial Park --with play facilities-- is just down the road. Hopkins House is about 3/4 of a mile from the Pony Swim.
Visit the beach and explore Assateague Island by car, bike, or on foot. Bike the byways of Chincoteague Island. Browse downtown and explore shops around the island. Bowl, play miniature golf, and go to the movies. Sample the island restaurants, cook wonderful Chincoteague clams at home, or get prepared seafood from local vendors. Attend a free concert in the public waterfront park. Take in the shell exhibits at the Oyster & Maritime Museum. Visit the NASA facility across the causeway.
