About the Owner

I am the mother of 4 wonderful children. Our children were raised in Baldwin County about 20 miles north of this cottage. I have lived here in the same house for 35 years. My family has owned this cottage since the early 1990's. We have enjoyed fishing, crabbing and boating in Bon Secour River for many years. When I was young my family owned a cottage at Gulf Shores, so owning a cottage on nearby Bon Secour River is a dream come true. Since my children are grown and living out of town, I don't use the cottage as much as I did in the past. I decided to use it for vacation rental property. By doing this, I am still able to have access to the cottage between rentals. I still enjoy fishing and crabbing from the pier. I have now added kayaking up the river and out into the bay to my list of hobbies. I am an elementary school librarian, so this allows me to have an extended summer vacation. I use this time to maintain the cottage between guests and usually find some time in the summer to stay and enjoy the cottage and river myself.

Restful and wonderful

  • 5 of 5
This is such a great location for kayakers. With the Bob Secour river at your doorstep. Several parks, Graham Creek, Wolf Creek as well as Fish River are just a short drive from the front door, that you spend more time on the rivers then driving to them. This is our second stay and we are planning for a third. The cottage is very comfortable with all that is needed to never have to leave. You can walk to the local fish shops and have them steam shrimp for dinner. Fishing at the Gulf Pier or at the pier at the cottage was FUN and we caught several Sea Trout. The dolphins visited the river daily. Foley also offers some small restaurants that were great. Thank you again for a relaxing vacation.

From the time my family closed the door to travel back home I was thinking about writing this. This was the remedy that I needed the cottage was beautiful felt like home and thats how we treated it. Took my kids crabbing for the first time and we caught 4 and they loved it. Had a seafood boil thanks to the Good people at Aquila Seafood. Was still in close distance to every beach and outlet . I over slept every day which was great:). My family is already asking me to reserve the cottage for next year World Series and i agree .... This was a very very Great week for my family and I . Thanks again Mrs. Lynn :) Bon Secour will see us every year.....

Owner's Response: I'm so happy when guests have a memorable and fun vacation at my cottage. I like to think back on vacations spent with my parents and family when I was young and times spent with my children on vacation when they were young. Nothing or no one can take away those memories! I'm very happy that my cottage and pier can be part of a great memory for this family. I do hope they are able to return. Many guests who come to visit come back again. I guess that says a lot about their satisfaction.

The Perfect Vacation Cottage!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed a week in this lovely cottage and it could not have been a better week. The little cottage is plenty roomy, very comfy, has absolutely everything you need. The pier is a short walk from the cottage and is shared with the other cottages in the little neighborhood but absolutely no one seems to use it. It felt like it was our private pier! We fished off the pier, caught crabs in the trap off the pier, and sat on the swing and enjoyed watching the shrimp boats leave each morning and return each evening. There is nothing that could be done to improve this already perfect vacation spot! The little neighborhood of cottages is extremely quiet and everyone is very friendly. (Also one of my favorite things we did in the area was a tour of the Swift/Coles historical home in Bon Secour. Be sure to add that to your list of things to see and do.)

Relaxing away from the beach

  • 5 of 5
Pictures don't do this place justice for sure. It's a lot larger than than the pictures make it seem. Very clean and quite. Bon secour is the perfect place to get away from it all. The cottage is well stocked with everything you need. We bought some fresh fish from the open air fish market at the end of the road and we had everything we needed to prepare a great meal. It's obvious all linens are cleaned everytime. My wife and I enjoyed running cycling and coffee on the pier. We spent two solid days on the beach which is less than 10 minutes away. I highly recommend this cottage.

Owner's Response: I'm happy to share my piece of paradise with others. It's my favorite place to be! I'm not able to use my cottage as much as I'd like to, so I'm glad visitors can enjoy it. Everyone who visits falls in love with Bon Secour and my cottage. This makes me happy!

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5
This was a epic vacation not only was this place 5 star but also like home with everything you need in the kitchen to fresh clean towels in the bathroom. Lynn has a little piece of heaven here made me home sick for the place as soonm as I left. Right ascross the street is a dock you can crab fish and fish off the locals are friendly and always willing to chat. Yet the main thing I loved was being so close to Gulf shores Beach OMG I was in love with thier beach clean white sand and clear water perfect for snorkling. The kids enjoyed Boogie Borading on the waves as well. We were able to get a whole box of sea shells for those of you like me that love to hunt for the perfect sea shell. Got to see some cool fish while we were thereas well. If you want to relax and live the lazy life this is the place everything is on its own time and all i can say is Im coming back and this will be the only place i can think of staying. :)

Owner's Response: I agree that Gulf Shores beaches are some of the prettiest on the Gulf of Mexico! My cottage in nearby Bon Secour is a great getaway after a busy day at the beach. The quiet area, the chance to relax or fish on the pier, viewing water foul and dolphins on and in the river, and watching the shrimp boats come and go from local fisheries adds charm to a south Alabama vacation. It's the best of both worlds!

Amenities

From the Owner

The pier across the road from our property is located between two fisheries. I love to sit in the swing at the end of the pier and watch the shrimp boats head out to the Gulf for their big catch. The River is teaming with sealife and waterfowl which also provide a pleasant view from the swing. Dolphins can be seen daily swimming up the river. Occasionally the dolphins will swim between our pier and our neighbor's pier. Pelicans, seagulls, and blue heron visit the pier and nearby pilings. I love the peace and quiet of the pier and community.
