About the Owner

I have written about house design and technology for many years and currently operate the website I love the quiet and natural beauty of Wellflleet -- to sail, kayak, swim, ride the waves, bike, and hike. I also enjoy the art, theater, food and just about everything else Wellfleet has to offer.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time at your house for the past week. It was quiet and private, and everything worked well. We had not been to the Cape since 1980, and I must say that staying in a beautiful house instead of a hotel made all the difference. The ready access to the National Seashore and other natural and historic areas left us with the feeling that we really have been missing out on a wonderful area for too many years. We will be very likely to return.

Perfect Vacation

We had a wonderful stay in Wellfleet. The house is clean, comfortable and well-equipped, with plenty of room for 6 people of various ages to spread out and make themselves comfortable. It is lovely to be able to stare into the trees from the sun deck or take a quick walk to Mayo Beach, Wellfleet Market, or the public library. We also liked the bike ride to Great Island, plus so many other other wonderful things that are easily accessible by car. Thank you Steve.

Property is set off in pine grove on quiet dirt road.House was immaculate.Every thing you need for a totally relaxing visit. Large deck off back of the house sits surounded by the tall pines.. has a grill, table with 6 chairs and beach umbrella where we spent many hours soaking up the sun reading. House open and light filled with comfortable furniture complemented by very tastefull paintings and prints reflecting the Cape Cod influence. Everything from appliances to furnishings and the like is of excellent quality. The owner Steve is a pleasure to deal with. Lots to see and do...Mayo beach right down the road, Provincetown one half hour away...great seafood. We also had great sunny weather!

We had a wonderful time here. The location is terrific with it being only about 20 minutes to Provincetown and only about 8 minutes by foot to the local beach. The house itself was very clean and organized. It had a great kitchen that was stocked very well! (it even had a box of herbs and spray) Papergoods like papertowels and toiletpaper was also provided!
I have recommended this property to friends and family already and would always do so.

From the Owner

I designed and built this home to catch the prevailing Southwest winds for natural ventilation and to take full advantage of natural lighting. The house orients its views to the sunny pine woods to the south. The traditional saltbox form and traditional materials are both attractive and functional in this environment. Outside are naturally weathered white-cedar shingles; inside natural wood floors and trim.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Hyannis, MA at 34 Miles Nearest Ferry : Provincetown to Boston at 15 Miles Nearest Beach : Mayo Beach at 1 Miles Car: recommended

Over 70% of Wellfleet's land lies within the protected Cape Cod National Seashore, making it a haven for those who treasure the Cape's wild, natural beauty. The town has gorgeous bay and ocean beaches, crystal clear freshwater ponds, miles of hiking trails on Great Island, numerous art galleries, several fine restaurants, a working harbor, and a quaint, historic "downtown." You'll also find a superb local theater company called Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater (WHAT), great back roads for biking, and Audubon's beutiful Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Just for kids, there's an old fashioned drive-in movie theater, boat and water-bike rentals at Gull Pond (also kid-friendly dock, swimming area, and life guards), several ice-cream stands, and miniature golf. It's 20 minutes to Provincetown where you'll find whale watches, unique shops, and a generally fun and zany place to visit (and then leave).
