Big Bear Lake Big Bear

Lovely home, needs a few things

  • 2 of 5
This was a very lovely home right on the lake near the center of the Big Bear Village. It was a great place for our mini family reunion. The bedrooms were nice and clean. The master was huge with its own bathroom, fireplace and a fantastic view of the lake at all hours. The whole family enjoyed the pool table and multiple flat screen tvs. There was also plenty of parking for all our cars. Unfortunately the beauty of the house and our experience was diminished because of the necessities not provided by the homeowner. We have rented in Big Bear many times and always try to treat the home as if it's our own. This home lacked many basics. No broom, a broken vacuum cleaner, one pot holder, 2 flimsy dish towels, no small frying pan, chipped dishware, no extra towels or linens. The rug in front of the sink looks like it has not been washed in ages. In addition we ran out of trash bags and when we called were told that "the owner said there were 10 under the sink". Now when I pay that much money to rent a vacation home, I don't want to be accused of taking the trash bags. And of course we had used 5 and run out. It took 4 phone calls and a shipment from Amazon the next day for the bags to arrive. Pretty ridiculous considering there are stores nearby. When I talked to the manager about no broom, she suggested I could buy one and get reimbursed. I am not on vacation to go shopping for a broom, and if the homeowner does not want to provide one then i guess the crumbs will stay one the floor. Several things in the home just needed a little regular maintenance. The microwave over the stove is broken and a new one is provided on the counter, but the broken one has a handle hanging off and looks terrible. The dining table has a shim under one leg to keep it from wobbling and the finish on the top is sticky no matter how many times you wipe it off. The large tv screen was dusty and there were no instructions about how to use the 3 remotes left on the table. As a matter of fact, there were no instructions anywhere in the house. Most places I have stayed have a welcome note and instructions for most items. It shows a lack of interest on the part of the homeowner. All in all, it was a great home that was spoiled by very minor things, but a lot of them. I would rent in Big Bear again, but probably not this house.
