Labor Day Get Away

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I do an annual fishing trip with our friends every year. Every year we have stayed at different rentals and I must say this was the best rental we have stayed at. Actually, I think this will be our rental spot for now on. The location is perfect and 2 blocks from the beach. Walking distance to the store's, church, and a few little bars. Has a nice deck where we would sit at in the morning and drink our coffee and enjoy the breeze. The house is fully furnished and the kitchen is fully stocked. Everything you need from a wine opener, to a rice cooker, blender, washer and dryer, pots, pans, coffee maker, iron, ironing board, cleaning materials, etc... We would see Mr. Alvin (owner) every day and great him with a good morning, such a sweet man. I highly recommend "Port A Vacation House" rental property #61090. Thank you, Mr. Alvin for everything.

Perfect for frat boys. All others, keep looking!

Hands down my worst vacation rental experience. I had no problem paying the inflated holiday rates, but this home was not a good value.

When we arrived the kitchen was dirty. There were crumbs on the counter, and the cabinets had marks and splatters on them. There was a pile of sand on the coffee table, and our bare feet were black within 30 minutes of arriving. The bathroom mirrors were also dirty. When brought to his attention, the owner saw no problem with any of this and explained it away, saying the last rental was three weeks prior, but that it had been used for personal use a couple of times since then. I felt like I had paid a lot of money for a dirty rental. Later, to add insult to injury, I found a dead cockroach in a kitchen cabinet near the plates, and mold under one of the toilet seats.

If you choose to stay here, be prepared to: 1. provide your own beach towels. 2. Eat out. The kitchen was very poorly stocked, including grungy pans and utensils, and a bare minimum spice rack. (Think salt, pepper, parsley. Period.) There is no plastic wrap, tin foil, or Tupperware. 3. Be up to date on your tetanus vaccines, and have a full supply of allergy/asthma meds. The refrigerator is covered in rust and grime, and all of the window sills are covered in mold.

With a good, deep professional cleaning, this place could be great. It was close to the beach and town. The living area, though small, worked well for our group of 4 adults and 2 children. The beds were comfortable enough, but I could never get the idea that this guy had taken shortcuts in cleaning out of my mind.

I never felt comfortable in this home. There are lots of great rentals in Port A. Keep looking, this isn't one of them.

Home away from home

This rental home is very comfortable and clean. We had enough room for our four teenage boys. A family style kitchen, with ample cookware for any type of food to be prepared. The stove was very clean and easy to use. A nice large refrigeration/freezer. We cooked at least one meal a day outside on the deck. The grill was clean, with stainless steel burners and cooking grids.
The owner is very nice and friendly. We were ables to talk to him, in person or by phone, if we had any questions.
We will definetly reserve another stay here next time.

July getaway

  • 3 of 5
We had a great time with our 17 yr. old dtr. and 2 of her friends. They practically lived on the beach. Alvin (the owner) was very nice and helpful. He kept checking on us and was available by phone. The property was nice. Beds comfy enough and everything worked. I would have enjoyed a better stove and cookwear since we did prepare most meals there. The grill in need of some better grills and flame covers. It was a little gross. I would stay again and will return soon. It was cool that the dogs were allowed to come and if you don't mind the stairs it will work for almost everyone.
