Guestbook comments from the owner

"I've been coming here since I was a baby. I wish I lived here. I love renting this house because it has a great view of the lighthouse and the bay, plus all the boats going by. Also I really, really love going crabbing on the dock. This year the crabbing was great!! We caught about two dozen and they were delisous."

Chincoteague Sunrise House

  • 4 of 5
Cute little cottage across the street from the wetlands. Two bedrooms, three beds. It says it will sleep six but that would be crowded. Very basic but perfect for a low key stay in Chincoteague. Great views of the lighthouse and sunrises.
The only negative issue became apparent at about 4:30 every morning -- the roosters in the neighbor's back yard. One made the typical cockadoodle doo sound, the other, I assume a bantam, made sounds like a small animal being tortured.
Nevertheless, the cottage was very clean and comfortable. The gardens and lawn were immaculate. The dock was a pleasant place to watch the sunset.
Our dogs loved it.

Owner's Response: It's all true, including the rooster. There are double pane windows which muffle the sound --I think sufficiently--if they are closed; but, yes, if left open, one does hear the rooster. Some like it, some don't. The ceiling fans also counteract the reveille.

I agree, too, with the remarks about sleeping six: Would not advise six 'mature' adults, but two children --or young people-- on the sleep sofa in the sunroom would work, I think. Four is ideal.

The garden is just waking up, and I do think it is special. We have a wonderful gardener, as well as plenty of space for dogs and children to play.

Activity and Interests

Crab, fish, or launch your kayak from dock. Paddle through the winding waterways in the marsh out to the Assateague Channel. Or you can just sit on the front deck --or in the living room-- and watch the action. Bird and other wildlife abounds!

Visit the beach and explore Assateague Island by car, bike, or on foot. Bike the byways of Chincoteague Island. Browse downtown and explore shops around the island. Bowl, play miniature golf, and go to the movies. Sample the island restaurants, cook wonderful Chincoteague clams at home, or get prepared seafood from local vendors. Attend a free concert in the public waterfront park. Take in the shell exhibits at the Oyster & Maritime Museum. Visit the NASA facility across the causeway.
