About the Owner

I first discovered North Captiva, Florida while fishing and bought a cottage there before electricity. Then electricity was brought over, sold my cabin and bought the Pelican Brief.

Perfect beach getaway!

We recently spent a week at Pelican Brief with our three children and had a wonderful time! The property and amenities were exactly as described and the owners were available prior to and during the stay if we needed anything.

The house was clean and fully stocked and offered gorgeous views any time of day. The beach was kid-friendly and we enjoyed searching for shells and creatures each day of our stay. We saw numerous Dolphins swimming and enjoyed many sunrises and sunsets from the decks.

We pre-ordered groceries and ate most meals at the house, but also enjoyed dining at Mangos and Barnicle Phils, just a short golf cart ride down the road. North Captiva is a beautiful place to visit and we would definitely stay at Pelican Brief in the future. Thank you Jim & Mirna!!

a little piece of paradise ....

We have visited this Island numerous times - this was our first stay at Pelican Brief. We have always gone thru NCIC to rent , but this time we dealt with the owner direct. Our questions were answered promptly and things went very well. He met us upon arrival and helped with all the slugging of our provisions. Pelican is located on the bay side with a million dollar view - always something to see. Excellent fishing dock, well equipped home ( better than NCIC homes ) and prompt service, if we had an issue. A very comfortable laid back home that we would return to again. When we were leaving, and discussed a couple items that needed attention with Jim, they were tended to instantly, and our return deposit came back promptly. I would not hesitate to recommend the Pelican to anyone, as our only complaint was the construction going on next door, but am sure it is no longer an issue, so peace and quiet will be the norm once again.

Paradise at the Pelican Brief

  • 5 of 5
My sister and I just returned from a wonderful, relaxing week at the Pelican Brief. The house is spotlessly clean and well maintained with all the modern conveniences and necessities. It is well stocked with all paper products, soap, laundry supplies, towels, linens and all the kitchen utensils we needed. When we arrived, Jim and Mirna met us at the dock to show us around the house and took us on a brief golf cart tour. They also checked on us periodically with emails or texts throughout the week to make sure we had everything we needed and gave us tips on all the amazing things we should see while we were there. We began each morning with coffee on the deck as we enjoyed the sun rise and watched dolphins in the bay. In the afternoons we’d explore the island, collect sea shells and sip cocktails while basking in the sun. The numerous birds on the beach provided all the entertainment we could possibly want. We even spotted a few turtles while we were there. With the full screened doors in the porch, decks on both sides of the house and the crows nest, we were able to enjoy the view all day long. Pelican Brief offered everything we were looking for in our search for a perfect relaxing vacation. Jim and Mirna are wonderful hosts and they do an amazing job of maintaining a beautiful home and providing people with an enjoyable vacation they won't soon forget. We definitely plan to go back again.

I can’t say enough about this place or the overall experience. I was able to come down for 5 nights in December and what a getaway. I’ve rented on North Captiva before and didn’t have the same luck as far as cleanliness goes. This place was obviously professionally cleaned and the layout of the house is perfect. Lots of room, beautifully furnished, and amazing views. They also have a really nice golf cart that I used to cruise the island. If I could give my overall experience more than 5 stars I would.

Feel at home

  • 5 of 5
First let me start with the owner's of the Pelican Brief, Jim and Mirna. They truly make sure you feel comfortable and welcome, over the top hospitality! We had 3 couples and 3 children in the home. In our hectic lives relaxation and seclusion is a must on vacation. The house is well appointed and contains all the comfort and features of home. Very clean and spacious with gorgeous sunrise and sunset views. The roof top deck is amazing! The beach area was just right combined with the private dock there is no need to leave the property. Dolphins and manatees just off the beach! If the pool is more your style, the N. Captive Inn is only a 5 min golf cart trip. They have two nice pools with poolside bar and food service. Boat rentals, kayaks, jet skis are available for rental.
My wife and I usually feel that we need a vacation to recover from our family vacations, not at the Pelican Brief. We truly decompressed from reality and made some great memories.

Pelican Brief at North Captiva Island

We stayed at the property for 3 days. I can only say the property is unbelievable. The views are breathtaking from an early sunrise to a roof-top sunset observatory on the property!

Property is equipped with everything you need to feel comfortable. Good place to just disconnect from the city. Rooms are spacious, nicely decorated. The premises are clean.

Really enjoyed the property with my family. Didn't have time to go out fishing this time but will come back. Excellent place to come in contact with nature... Dolphins are all over the island. Very lucky to see them out in the wild.

From the Owner

You will start your morning with spectacular sunrises, dolphin jumping right in front of the home. You catch fish right off our private dock. Walk 6 miles of soft sandy beaches. The sunsets are equally spectactular. And then finish the evening on our widows walk on the roof and watch shooting stars.
