Wonderful Birthday Surprise!

  • 5 of 5
As a birthday gift for my husband, I surprised him with a week at Butternut! (I told him the day before we left, and even his boss was in on it!) Alyce was quite a help in keeping it under wraps.

The house itself is gorgeous, and the views even better! It was a great relaxing place to stay, even with a active 18 month old. (He had a grand time reorganizing the drawer of spices in the kitchen--hope they weren't alphabetized!) :) We enjoyed hot chocolate by the fireplace every night.
My husband has already asked when we're going back this fall!

Owner's Response: It was great fun to "help keeping it under wraps" and to hear that Jodi and her family had such a good time. I'll be looking forward to welcoming them back.

What a great idea for a birthday or other special occasion, family holiday, or just a well-deserved get-away! Butternut is sure to please all with its comforts, beautiful location, amazing architecture and celebrity history.

  • The spacious main floor has open beam ceilings, random width pine floors, four picture windows including White Mountain views. Large back-to-back fireplaces highlight the living room & kitchen/dining areas. There is also a bar, an enclosed porch, a full bath, and laundry washer/dryer. Satellite TV (47" HD in living room, second set in master bedroom), DVD, VCR, CD and DSL Internet access are provided. The kitchen is well equipped and a real delight for those who love to cook, with Jenn-Air cooktop/grill, self-cleaning oven, microwave/convection oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, two sinks, extensive counter space, appliances (mixers, blender, toaster, rotisserie/toaster-oven, coffee maker, coffee grinder, waffle iron, etc), china, glassware, stainless flatware, and a full complement of cookware. The four bedrooms on the second floor are reached by the main stairs and a private stairway to the master bedroom suite. The suite features a canopied queen bed and private bath with stall shower, satellite TV, an adjoining single bedroom, and furnished screened porch. Two other bedrooms (one with double beds, one with twin beds) share a second bathroom with whirlpool tub/shower, and an adjoining open porch. All linens, blankets, and down comforters are provided. The unique 'silo' spiral stairway leads from the 1st floor bar to a sitting room adjacent to the master suite, and then up to a quiet 3rd floor retreat, all with stunning views. The attached garage accomodates one vehicle and also provides convenient indoor access to firewood. Other summertime amenities include outdoor furniture and hammock, barbecue fireplace and grill, and a lovely garden.
