The 'Farmhouse-by-the-Sea has been a working family farm since the 1840's. Continuing in this farming tradition you will find chickens, ducks, cows, etc.,, on site.

The farmhouse has always had a direct affiliation with the historic Theater by the Sea. Walking distance from the farmhouse to the Theater, explains why 'Broadway' stars such as Marlon Brando, Carol Channing, Groucho Marks, Shelly Winters, etc.,, lived here while performing in this 300-seat Barn Theater. Today, Broadway shows are performed throughout the summer.

About the Owner

during the last decades of the 19th century, the picturesque hamlet of Matunuck, RI emerged as a famous Art Colony inspired by the unique beauty of its' landscape. A wood sculptor, the owner of this property, set up his family home & his Studio here where he carves each of his masterpieces in a converted 19th century dairy barn, across from the Atlantic Ocean.

The "Farmhouse-by-the-Sea" has been a working family farm since the 1840's. Continuing in this farming tradition there are chickens, ducks, cows, etc.,, on site. The "Farmhouse-by-the-Sea has had a direct affiliation with the 'historic' Theater by the Sea because of it being walking distance to the Theater. Broadway stars who have lived at the Farmhouse, while performing at the Theater included; Marlon Brando, Carol Channing, Groucho Marx,Shelly Winters & others.

Forty five minutes will take you to Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun & Mystic Aquarium.

You can walk for miles on beautiful unspoiled beaches or on Nature Trails in nearby Trustom Pond Wildlife Preserve. You can also walk to Carpenter's farmstand for fresh produce & Matunuck Town Beach with it's showers, picnic areas rest rooms, Beach Volleyball, food Pavilion & great swimming! Short walks will take you to famous beachfront bars/restaurants & to a grocery, surf shop & Ice Cream stand . If you prefer other modes of transportation we have available to our guests; bicycles; motor bikes & kayaks.
