Property Details

Updated: Dec 17, 2014
3 Houses & 2 Cabins: 9 Bedrooms, 5 Bathrooms, 2 Kitchens & a Beach - Sleeps 20+

Ripple Lodge is a one-of-a-kind set of four houses & 2 cabins - five of which we typically rent out to one party in the Summer, or possibly to multiple parties in the Spring & Fall - that is located on about 1 acre of beautifully wooded land on the N.E. corner of Long Lake, with over 275 feet of lake frontage and a sandy beach. Still retaining its charm and atmosphere from the 1920's, Ripple Lodge is the perfect spot to escape from the frantic pace and relax in comfort and seclusion - and a great place for a family reunion. The Dining House and charming boat house as well as 2 separate cabins and, central to everything, the Big House that has five bedrooms and two luxurious bathrooms, not to mention a large living room w/Fireplace! - that's a ton of space for larger groups. Altogether there are two kitchens and three dining areas, three screened-in porches: Big House, Dining House & Boat House - all facing the lake. Speaking of 'lake' - do note the clarity of Long Lake's spring-fed water, much better than many other lakes in the area! A beautiful setting with lots of birds (Loons, an eagle, a crane, ducks and geese, and many smaller birds-finches), towering trees, fresh air and delicious well water (please don't bring plastic water bottles!), and a great view of the Milky Way - the most natural of settings - Pure Michigan: it's right here.

If you are looking for something unique, not the typical modern hoopla but charm that goes back to 1928 - and lots of space, and lots of privacy, a Boat House right on the water, and plenty of room for kids on the beach front, a large Dining Room in the Dining house (seats 16+), etc. - Ripple Lodge is it. We are particular about who we rent to and have a list of 'rules' that are important (e.g. don't plug up the septic system!) - good repeat customers are desired as we have one of the best spots in the area.

Yes, we have a Verizon WiFi hotspot; Of course we have a dock and buoys, but bring or rent your own boat(s), the boat launch is right across the lake, about 1 mile away. There's a TV but no reception out here, so bring your favorite DVDs if you wish.

Spring & Fall offer the utmost in quiet and affordability, unless you wish to see winter in what can be a brutal environment. Lodging is limited to 8 adults once the thermometer dives below the freezing point. Contact Owner for unusual off-season (Winter) rental possibilities, 2-6 week minimum for 2 to 8 adults.

About the Owner

My wife and I bought out my cousins a few years back and have been busy fixing up 'the lodge' to make it one of the best spots on Long Lake for large family reunions. For now Ripple Lodge is primarily a rental business, in 5-10 years it shall become our retirement home and perhaps only open for repeat customers who know and appreciate its unique virtues.

Awesome Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5
This was the perfect setting for our large family reunion. Beautiful lake views, lots of space so that you never felt cramped and it was very clean. The owner was very responsive before we got there answering questions and very helpful while we were there. There are plenty of things to do in Traverse City and the areas close like Glen Arbor. The location is ideal for just relaxing with a wonderful deck, beach, boat house to hang out in & two nice fire pits. It was an ideal vacation/family reunion.

Owner's Response: This year we have added a dishwasher and new double oven stove to the dining house, not to mention rewiring the dining house, white cabin and boat house. The most important feature, however, will remain our beautiful setting on Long Lake, the fresh air and delicious water that flows from out of our well. We very much appreciate those customers who help make Ripple Lodge a great place for family reunions.

Ripple Lodge Visit Summer 2013

  • 4 of 5
Our family (6 adults, 3 children, l dog!) stayed a week at Ripple Lodge. It was terrific! The cottages were clean, no shortage of hot water, with comfortable beds and lots of them as we were a smaller group. Lots of dry firewood provided for the fireplaces and the "fire pit" on the deck which was our place for story telling and smores. We all appreciated the cottage atmosphere with lots of easy walking in beautiful surroundings of mature trees and meadows. The use of the motorboat was a bonus. The location could not have been better as we were a few minutes from groceries, Traverse City, Lake Michigan beaches, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Leland (Fishtown)and plenty more activities that we will explore next time. Great sunsets. Phillip (owner) was available if needed and promptly returned our security deposit. It was a fun filled family week! We will recommend this to our friends and look forward to returning. Paula and John, London, Ontario

Owner's Response: It is always a pleasure to see renters who appreciate the unique charm that Ripple Lodge offers. I am hoping that more Canadians cross the border and experience all that Northern Michigan has to offer.

Rustic Private Resort

  • 5 of 5
Ripple Lodge felt like home as soon as we arrived, from the furnished bedrooms and kitchens to the welcoming owners. The Lodge is made up of several buildings, so my extended family was never tripping over itself. We brought our bikes (watch out for the hills!) and an inflatable boat--pretty much everything else we needed was there. The beach was totally private (we played all day and had campfires at night on the beach), and the beach house was right there (my nephew chose to sleep in it all weekend). There were several large gathering areas, and we all had the privacy we needed as well. We brought our dogs, who were in heaven (they're part of the family, after all!). We were minutes away from Traverse City and the sand dunes, and when we could tear ourselves away from the lodge, we did go visit. We'll definitely be back, and I plan to look into it for my son's Cub Scout pack--it would be perfect.

Owner's Response: We certainly are glad to have renters who appreciate all of the unique charms of Ripple Lodge - and look forward to giving them a discount on future rentals as our policies state: 10% off any advertised price for all future rentals.

Excellent vacation home

  • 5 of 5
We were a group of 12 to 14 people visited Ripple Lodge on July 4th, 2010 long week end. We really enjoyed our stay as it is within the vicinity of Traverse City and Mr. Phillip was very friendly and helpful. The cabins and the home are located on the lake side and it has a boat house also which makes it very special as one might get a feel of being close to nature. I would recommend this place to others and we plan to visit this place again.

Owner's Response: This was our first rental to a larger group of people and we were quite pleased that they all enjoyed their stay so much. Ripple Lodge is continuously being improved upon and we look forward to even larger parties.

Location

From the Owner

The best of the old and the new - the charm from almost 100 years is still evident, along with lots of new ideas and, not to forget: a great location on the NE corner of Long Lake: Ripple Lodge - the place to be.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Traverse City at 8 Miles Nearest Ferry : Ludington, MI at 90 Miles Nearest Motorway : MI 31/37 at 7 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Boone's Long Lake Inn at 3 Miles Nearest Beach : Here, or Sleeping Bear Dunes at 20 Miles

Swimming, Boating, Biking, Nature Walks--a peaceful and private environment! Do you like to grill?--we've got TWO larger Webber grills and a beautiful spot under towering pine trees looking down at the Lake. Traverse City is just 10 minutes away offering all of its activities; Sleeping Bear dunes is a 20 minute drive. Most important of all Long Lake is special, having some of the clearest water of any lake in Michigan and is about 7 miles long by 1.5 mile wide - not to mention 75 feet deep in some parts: the Mozart of Michigan lakes! Our boathouse and beach face West so the sunsets are superb and the boathouse is perfectly situated to keep an eye on your kids playing on the beach. Don't forget your boat, walleye is the fish to catch. The Dock goes out in May and comes back in in October. During OFF Season, we are especially quiet and affordable, the lake is swimmable until October and the ice comes in around Christmas - Ice Skating, Ice Fishing, or just read a good book in the seclusion, Kafka anyone?

Amenities

From the Owner

Having 3 houses and 2 cabins means that there's lots of spaces for families to spread out: So join the crowd down on the beach or be alone in your own house or cabin. Dinners tend to run late - 9PM? - and getting up late after a long refreshing sleep happens quite regularly, it's because the air Up North is much better than downstate...

Notes:

  • Our Boat House really is special--the only one of its kind that you will find on the entire lake! - one that includes a porch and family room (520 sq. ft.) right on the lakefront where you can watch your kids on our private beach (see picasaweb pics!). Surrounded by woods at the end of a 1 mile dirt road, get away from the crowds and enjoy the seclusion. The perfect spot for large family reunions or collegiate symposiums if you catch my drift.
