Cabin, 1 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Our small cabin is the perfect location for a family getaway or adult retreat. We are not one of the units in a large complex, but a small single dwelling in a cul-de-sac of 3 homes. Our cabin backs to a green belt with access to Tahoe Donner hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing trails. It is a short walk to the bus that takes you to the Tahoe Donner ski hill, the perfect spot for families with children learning to ski.

Worldclass mountain biking and skiing is just a short 20-30 minute drive to Northstar at Tahoe, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Sugar Bowl resorts.

Home includes a bedroom with a double bed with a twin bunk downstairs, and living area with a double bed futon and cubby with twin bed upstairs. Sheets and towels are provided and the kitchen is well stocked. Homeowner has small children, so the stairs are gated at the top and there are toys for up to about age 8, push toys, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, sand toys for the beach, jogging stroller, baby backpack carrier, and more.

We are now set up with WiFi and unlimited local and long distance calling. Our cabin does have a TV with built in DVD/CD player, but we do not have cable- don't worry, there is so much to do you won't want to be inside watching a lot of television!

For hotel prices you get the seclusion of a single dwelling home backing a green belt and a short drive to access many great amenities. Please note that we encourage self-cleaning which makes the cabin even more affordable! If you prefer to not follow our cleaning instructions there will be a $50 fee and arrangements will need to be made with the owner at 925-640-8238.

About the Owner

Our family spent many weekends enjoying the cabin before moving from the Bay Area to Truckee in 2010. We now live full-time just 2 miles from the cabin.

Cozy, Affordable & family-friendly

This place is amazing. We were 4 adults and 2 kids. There was plenty of room so no one had to sleep on the floor. Even there was a special bed for our infant. There was free Wi-Fi, a whole bunch of games for kids and adults. There were many expandable furniture so people can use whenever they want and compact them to avoid taking too much space. The fact that no pets were allowed, made it excellent for our infant. My older son enjoyed his movie and games when we were playing cards. The location is very close to a ski resort which makes the stay even more enjoyable.

In simple words it is the bang for the buck.

Wonderful cabin

  • 5 of 5
This was a perfect, cozy cabin for our family of four. We had everything we needed and Melissa was so helpful. The cabin is clean and has all of the household items you would need for your stay. Our daughters commented on how comfortable the mattresses were and we had to agree.

The only negative is that there was little snow left. But that just gives us another reason to return. We can't wait to stay here during the middle of winter!

Wonderful Weekend

  • 5 of 5
We found this cabin by chance on the internet and thought it would meet our needs this weekend. It turns out it exceeded all expectations - right down to the heard of deer resting in the snow right out the back window. The place is well set up for a family with tots but works well with our older family too.

For a price you will never be able to beat, Pat and Melissa have provided up and beyond what you'd expect. And if you're into skiing Donner, you can't get any closer. Personally, we enjoyed hiking all the paths (in the snow)and a few of the many Geocaches that are all around (even 800 feet away).

Thank you! We'll be back.

Great little vacation rental

  • 5 of 5
Our family 4 spent a great 3 days/nites at the Hodous cabin. Melissa couldn't have been any more helpful or accommodating. The cabin had all the amenities you would need and was so quiet. My kids got a kick out of watching the stars at night. The cabin is in a great location - a short drive to Truckee, ski resorts (except for Tahoe Donner which is walking distance) and the lake. Added benefit is the Tahoe Donner rec center use and the option to clean the place yourself yourself! All in all this is a great little cabin and we'll certainly be back!

The Coziest Cabin/Home!

  • 5 of 5
It's accurate to say that what you see in the photo's presented, a "Cabin", on the outside, and a warm and comfortable home on the inside. Coziness, is there folk's! Behind the "Cabin", is an open air Alpine Meadow's, with hiking path's. The "Cabin", is listed as "One bedroom", but the non-bedroom area's are equipped for sleeping as well! "Amenities", includes the "Pass Card's", of the Tahoe Donner Assoc., which is included in the the Cabin price. Golf, Tennis, Pool, Hot tub, Equestrian center, Camp ground, Down Hill Ski Area, Cross country Ski Area, Beach Club Marina,is all associated with where this most "Cozy Cabin/Home is located. "Amenities", includes what you would expect in a home setting. It's a clean, well maintained, property. For Melissa, the property owner, it's her close 2nd home. Melissa, is great in the customer service dept., she has been available at any time during our yearly stay's at the "Cabin". I have recommended this Tahoe/Donner/Truckee/Squaw Valley(And sometime's day/overnight trip's to Reno, Nevada), experience, to our friend's and family member's. Tahoe, Truckee, and Squaw Valley have activities, and attractions all year round. Downtown Truckee is close by, with great place's to eat, and of course the gift shop's. Close by, there's "Pizza On The Hill", or "The Lodge", for eat's. We mixed it up on the eating issues, sometimes we ate out, sometimes we used the Cabin kitchen. Yes, I have played out this review a little thick, and I meant to! This will be the fourth year strait, that my family, und me, will be staying at Melissa's "Home", at Tahoe/Donner. Looking forward to it folk's! Take care! Cliff.

From the Owner

This is a unique cabin in Tahoe Donner as it is the perfect size for a couple or family to spend a vacation, especially in a place so beautiful as Tahoe where you spend your days outside. The location makes it possible to relax with the family without ever leaving the property, but you could spend many weekends exploring the beauty of Tahoe.

There is so much to do in Tahoe Donner, Truckee, and around Lake Tahoe.

* Tahoe Donner Marina- owner rents stand up paddle board on Donner Lake for $20 per day.

* Cross-country skiing – you can actually ski off our porch to access many trails within the community (trail maps located at Tahoe Donner website). You must ski to the Cross Country Ski Resort to get a day pass. There are also cross-country trails at Northstar, Boreal and Squaw.

* Sledding – there are plenty of small hills behind our house and a sled in the garage that you may use. The Tahoe Donner driving range sponsors sledding, usually only on the weekends and holidays for a very reasonable rate with our guest cards (more info at the Tahoe Donner website). Don’t bring a sled to the hill as they require you to use the ones they provide- they even added tubing! It is well organized and a lot of fun!

* Trout Creek Recreation Center – Trout Creek Recreation Center has a state of the art weight room, cardio room, fitness classroom, recreation pool, an adult lap pool, massage treatment, steam room, sauna, and hot tubs. Facility may be used with our guest cards (more info at the Tahoe Donner website) for a fee.

* Free Family Movie Night – Friday nights at Northwoods Clubhouse, check the Tahoe Donner website calendar to see what will be showing.

* Tubing – Tubing at Northstar paid by the hour.

* Ice skating – there are rinks in downtown Truckee, Northstar and Squaw Valley. We usually go to Northstar- it is free if you have skates and only $5 to rent skates.

* KidZone Museum – Children’s Museum, fun indoor play for small children. Conveniently located at the bottom of the Tahoe Donner hill behind the fire department. Child admission is $7, adults $5 or purchase a weekly pass for up to family of 8 for just $25. If you have a reciprocal pass to another children’s museum it is also valid at KidZone.

* Hike out your door – there are many hiking trails right behind the cabin.

* Circus Circus – Just 40 minutes away in Reno, great area for kids to play games and see free circus acts.

Truckee is a beautiful mountain town full of outdoor activities and downtown character. Check out worldclass ski resorts like Northstar, Squaw Valley, Alpine meadows and Sugar Bowl, only 20-30 minutes away. Then head downtown and enjoy a gourmet dinner.

And if that isn't enough, you are a short drive to all that Lake Tahoe and Reno have to offer.

From the Owner

It is hard to find a small, single family, dwelling with a garage (access in winter only). You never know when snow will come down by the foot in Truckee, so a garage can be a great convenience.
