House, 5 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 12 Sleeps

In the early 1900's, Minden was a booming mining town. Every mining town had a Company Store where all the men who worked for the mine went to buy all necessities for their families using Scrip, coins imprinted with the company's name, with which the workers were paid. This house is where the Store Manager and his family resided. After the mining boom went bust, the house was sold. A couple of sales later, my grandparents were the proud owners. This house has been in our family since 1968. This is my tribute to my grandmother, whom we all fondly called "Mamaw." Mamaw's door was always open and that's the way it will stay. This is your perfect chance to get away from home and still feel "at home."

Quaint Perfection

There are myriad reasons why this was the perfect place for me and my crew to stay! First of all, we were in town for adventure! Mamaw's House is in super close proximity to all the key New River Gorge sites and experiences in West Virginia - but it's in a small community that has the look and feel of what authentically makes this state truly Wild and Wonderful! Second, the accommodations are neat, clean, and more than comfortable! Both the interior and exterior of the house could serve as a museum, boasting the stunning photography of its owner in conjunction with Mamaw's original wall paper and accoutrements - and town history, to boot! Lastly, the owner made it a point to make sure that we had absolutely everything we needed, and that we made the most out of our stay.

Rustic elegance is the easiest way to describe Mamaw's House. It has the charm of the company house with all the modern conveniences for a restful vacation. The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful with information on the area. The house is close by many of the adventure destinations and the most beautiful nature scenery I have ever seen. You get a real taste of how West Virginia is and used to be. My time spent at Mamaw's House was a great experience I want to repeat.
